There was never any reason to assume that the Kelly Nolan case was in any way linked to any other case.

If it is true that the waiter at Amy's Cafe simply turned an intoxicated female over to a man who claimed to be a friend, one wonders just how stupid that waiter could be.

It seems strange she was fired from her previous employement for 'insufficient experience' and particularly strange that she was fired just prior to an anticipated surge in business when there was no time to train a successor waitress.

A month later, police quiet on Nolan murder
Monday, August 6, 2007, 4:58 PM
by Robin Colbert, WIBA

It's been a month since the body of 22-year-old Kelly Nolan was found in a wooded area outside of Madison. Police say the death of the UW student was a homicide, but Madison public information officer Joel DeSpain isn't saying much about a suspect. However, he says police believe any potential suspect is still in Wisconsin.

Police are also still waiting for evidence to be processed at a state crime lab. However, DeSpain is not commenting on what they're looking for.

There's currently a $10,000 reward for information leading to Nolan's killer. DeSpain says that reward could be increase in the near future.

I don't have any information on this case but if I did have some, I would sure stay quiet until they raised the reward and THEN call the tip in.

Police there are now approaching intoxicated people more promptly and have a mobile 'detention van' moved into the area and sometimes parked directly outside bars. There is a move afoot to have more and better camera coverage and analysis.

I wonder if this heavy police presence and privacy eroding surveillance is really the right thing to do?

Given the police attitude already displayed, I don't think the police should rely on the public there for them to get lucky with this case.

>>I don't have any information on this case but if I did have some,

Not a very well thought out series of actions and statements by the police.
NOW they want the public to step forward and help them out? They've not been helpful in the past and their actions have generally been annoying and in some cases laughable.

While I Am On The Topic of College Murders….
by Greta Van Susteren

Remember Kelly Nolan? We covered this story and continue to check on it. Kelly disappeared in Madison, Wisconsin (home to the University of Wisconsin and my alma mater) on June 23. She was last seen near a bar in the State Street area — the main drag at the University. Days later (July 9) she was found murdered…. still no arrests….not only does it mean no justice for Kelly (yet) but there is a killer loose… (yes, I know, another one…)

Here is a recent editorial about her murder.  Click here.

OFFICIALS STILL MUM ON NOLAN

By By BILL NOVAK The Capital Times
http://tinyurl.com/2g8ekl
It has been four weeks since the body of Kelly Nolan was found in dense woods north of Oregon, but there are few visible signs of progress in the investigation.

Madison Police Department spokesman Joel DeSpain said today that "detectives are working full-time on the case. We still have good leads and are following them."

But no suspects have been named or charges filed in the homicide case that has drawn nationwide attention.

Law enforcement and Nolan's Waunakee family are tentatively planning a press conference for Thursday, one month after the 22-year-old's remains were discovered. A reward of $10,000 was put up in mid-July for information leading to the arrest and conviction of her killer. DeSpain said he didn't know if the reward amount is going to change on Thursday.

A major complicating factor in the investigation is the length of time between Nolan's disappearance and when her body was found.

She was reported missing June 23 after a night of partying in downtown Madison. Searches during the week following her disappearance turned up empty until cell phone technology and global positioning tracking allowed police to zero in on the woods where her body was found July 9.

Investigators took days just to remove her body in order to capture as much evidence as possible, including pine needles and soil samples. Experts in forensic entomology, anthropology and dentistry were called in to help, owing to the length of time Nolan's body spent in the woods.

Dane County Coroner John Stanley still has not released details on the cause of her death and says he will not until the police investigation ends.

Five law enforcement agencies are still involved in the Nolan case, including the FBI and the Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation.

A sad anniversary: Kelly Nolan's body found three years ago

BILL NOVAK | The Capital Times | bnovak@madison.com | Posted: Friday, July 9, 2010 10:15 am

The investigation into the unsolved murder of Kelly Nolan reached a sad milestone on Friday.

It's been exactly three years since the body of the 22-year-old UW-Whitewater student was found in a wooded area in the town of Dunn, several weeks after she was reported missing.

Nolan was last seen after bar time on June 23, 2007, after she'd been out with friends on State Street. She stayed out after her friends went home, and apparently went off with a man who knew her, according to police.

While it's been three years, the Nolan case is not considered a cold case, said Madison police spokesman Joel DeSpain.

"We remain committed to bringing the person or persons responsible for Kelly's death to justice," DeSpain said.

"Full time detective resources remain committed to the case," he said. "During the past year, investigators conducted numerous interviews and continued their ongoing evidentiary probe."

Friends and family of Kelly Nolan put up $13,000 originally as a reward fund, but the fund was reduced to $1,000 due in large part to the tough economic conditions.

A new Kelly Nolan fund has been established at Summit Credit Union in Waunakee, so anyone interested in contributing can help with donations to Kelly Nolan Fund, Summit Credit Union, 304 E. Main St., Waunakee, WI 53597.

There also is a $1,000 reward through Madison Area Crime Stoppers (266-6014) for anyone with information about the murder. Callers can remain anonymous.

DeSpain said detectives believe there are people who have information on Nolan's death who haven't come forward.

Detectives are looking for info from people:

-- Who were in personal contact with Nolan during the fall of 2006 to June of 2007, in Madison, Whitewater or any other locale, and haven't previously been contacted by Madison police. Those people can call 266-4946 or e-mail jsummers@cityofmadison.com and leave contact information and a brief description of their contact with Nolan during that time frame.

-- Who previously provided tip information regarding the case and requested a followup contact from detectives, but weren't contacted. Call 266-4946 or e-mail jsummers@cityofmadison.com and leave contact info and a brief description of the original information you gave.

-- Who have information and didn't provide it to police during the initial investigation. Call Crime Stoppers at 266-6014.
