The Miami Herald Travel show does not list ATA (Aruba Tourism Authority) as a sponsor but it does list the Caribbean Tourism Organization.  Aruba Tourism Authority is affiliated with the CTO.  So maybe Aruba will have a booth there.  Not positive.

I followed the links and it does list ATA as a sponsor. But I believe it is a different 'ATA'

"Africa Travel Association (ATA) is the premier international travel industry trade association, promoting tourism to the African continent and intra-Africa travel and partnership since 1975."

I will try to keep my eyes open for events in this area, though.

I've been traveling away from home a lot -- haven't been able to stay current on local events Sad

But whenever I'm home -- I scrutinize faces everywhere I go in case I get the pleasure of running into Deepak or Freddy -- or anyone else you all think is in Miami

(One day I'll share about the day I thought I saw Steve Cohen in a B of A. He was too short to be Cohen, though  Laughing  Laughing I don't go near that bank anymore. I think they have a poster of me  Laughing  Laughing )

Sharon - yes, I knew the Miami show listed a different ATA, that's why I specified Aruba Tourism Authority.  Also, the Miami show may not be open to the public anyway.  The Caribbean Tourism Organization is an affiliate of the Aruba Tourism Authority but who knows if there will even be an Aruba booth?

I will see if I can find out anything through any of my cruise line contacts. If there's an opportunity to sell a cabin, they are usually involved.

But I agree with it may not be open to the public. If it's the venue I'm thinking of, they usually hold 'open to the trade' shows. I'll have to research.

Neither Aruba nor ATA  listed as a particpant, klaas. Should I be looking for a different organization name?

But it appears there are times this will be open to the public (if we find an Aruba booth):

Show Hours
Saturday April 28
8:30am - 9:30am | Trade Breakfast
9:30am - 11:00am | Expo Open to Trade Only
11:00am - 7:00pm | Expo Open to Public

Sunday April 29th
11:00am - 5:00pm | Expo Open to Public

Now let me follow the link to the 'sister show' in Ft Lauderdale.

Link to sister show in Ft lauderdale. No participants listed yet -- show not until November.

ATA is African Tourist Assoc.

The only possibility for an Aruban presence would be CTO. I'll check back from time to time to see when they list exhibitors.

I'll keep looking. We have so many conventions and shows down here.

Do we have any monkeys in the Orlando area??? That area is another big draw for all types of conventions.

Some tips from Justicefornatalee:

If you are going to stand up for Natalee at other venues,
here are a few general suggestions:

1) Have a permit and apply early. Richard can advise you on this step.

2) Have one big professionally made sign that draws attention and gives focus. Play it safe with the message.
(such as Justice for Natalee). You can always make your own signs later and add other messages.
Our sign didn't cost a lot and it wasn't too heavy. When you get the permit, ask how large the sign can be.

3) Put Natalee's photo on your sign. The sign maker could not or would not do this--so we just taped on the photo. Many people remembered
Natalee from her picture.

4) Have informational handouts or flyers.

5) Talk to people.

6) Wear Natalee shirts--especially with her image.

7) Make it clear that you are a volunteer.

Give out stickers, buttons, magnets, or something of that nature.
We didn't have a lot of money for that but did manage to give away a few
little things.

These are just suggestions. of course. And if you can send buttons or stickers or help someone going, please do so and get the stuff to them early. We can all help each other and Natalee in some way.

ALSO:

And the most important thing is:

OBEY THE LAW.

Also, when you apply for the permit,
you might want to call it an
awareness campaign or distribution of
informational/educational leaflets--something of that nature.

Again, Richard is the one to ask about the permit.

Richard also has some good tips:

Also, keep in mind that the name "Natalee" isn't an instant-recall thing to everyone.  We who frequent this forum have Natalee on our minds all the time, more or less anyway, but this is not true of everyone out there.

On the other hand, most people remember at least something about "the girl missing in Aruba."

One passerby had a good suggestion for a sign: "Justice for Natalee, abducted in Aruba in 2005."  Or something like that, just to bring to mind the basic facts for the people out there.  Anything more would be too cluttered, I think.

And there's a good chance that you'll be on TV locally, as we were.  So it would help to have a few things in mind, your chief points ready.

If you can sound concise on TV, and start off with something like: "For these three reasons, we think... etc.," it helps keep you organized.  Most of us have not been in front of a microphone, and hence might not come across all that well.  The same is true, I guess, even for the regular stuff: if you have the attention of someone walking by for thirty seconds, what are the key points you would want to make?
