ORLANDO --
When Judge Belvin Perry announces a 1.5 hour lunch recess, everyone inside the Orange County Courthouse scatters. So what are they craving and where do they go to fuel up?

Thursday, I stepped inside the brand new Terrace 390 restaurant on Livingston Street and Orange Avenue, across the street from the courthouse. Lead Defense Counsel Jose Baez and his entire team took up a pretty big table on the right

Casey Gets Angry, Cries As Caylee Autopsy Pics Shown
Posted: 6:44 am EDT June 10, 2011Updated: 5:01 pm EDT June 10, 2011
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Casey Anthony became angry and cried as Chief Medical Examiner and local T.V. personality, Dr. Jan Garavaglia, also known as Dr. G., described photos that were shown to the jury of Caylee's autopsy on Friday. Friday marks day 26, including jury selection, of Casey's murder trial.

Dr. G. also described the crime scene and some of the pictures she took of Caylee's remains as they were shown to the jury.

"Were also looking at the hair mat and were looking at the roots that were going through the hair mat," said Dr. G.

Dr. G. explained how Caylee's remains were found entwined with growth and infested with bugs. She was asked to explain why Caylee's death was ruled a homicide, even though there was not a cause of death confirmed.

"Do you have an opinion as to the manner of death in this case?" Dr. G was asked.

"Yes," she replied. "Homicide. It's based on three main things. When a child isn't reported, that's something we look for; for foul play. The body was hidden, also the body is also in a closed container, a suitcase or a bag, like this one was. The last would be the duct tape, located somewhere on the lower half of the face."

Dr. G. continued to explain why she ruled Caylee's death a homicide.

"No child should have duct tape on their face when they die. There's no reason to put duct tape on the face after they die," said Dr. G.

More Gruesome Testimony in Casey Anthony Trial

ORLANDO, Fla. - A day after falling ill when jurors saw pictures of her 2-year-old daughter's skull, Casey Anthony returned to an Orlando courtroom, to hear more gruesome testimony as her murder trial resumed.

She broke down in tears and starting shaking when a professor of anthropology testified that some of her daughter Caylee's bones had been chewed on by animals. She was immediately comforted by defense attorney Dorothy Simms.

Professor John J. Schultz of the University of Central Florida, told jurors how a team of forensics people carefully searched the wooded area, marking with tiny flags the locations where the child's bones were found.

Day 15: Jury sees shocking animation of Caylee Anthony 'becoming' skull

ORLANDO --

DR. MICHAEL WARREN -- Anthropology professor at the University of Florida. Created an animation comparing Caylee Anthony's skull to a photo of her taken when she was alive.

With the jury out of the courtroom, Casey Anthony watched in anger as prosecutors played a disturbing video of her daughter, Caylee's skull superimposed on a photo of the toddler taken when she was still alive.
Judge Belvin Perry called for a short recess to decide whether or not to allow the jury to see the animation.

Prosecutor Jeff Ashton said he wanted to call the video's creator, Dr. Michael Warren, to testify in order to show the jury that a piece of duct tape found near the skull was big enough to fit over Caylee's nose and mouth.

The defense called the video "disgusting" and "pure fantasy," but Judge Perry, citing a previous case from Volusia County, allowed the animation to be shown in court. The judge said the jury had already seen pictures of the skull, and both the prosecution and the defense had brought up duct tape in their previous lines of questioning.

Crime Scene, Insect Experts Testify In Casey Trial Day 27
Posted: 8:49 am EDT June 11, 2011Updated: 12:49 pm EDT June 11, 2011
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- A forensic entomologist testified on day 27 in Casey Anthony's murder trial, and he told the jury that the insects found in the trunk of Casey's car were related to decomposition.

Haskell, who analyzed insects found in Casey's car trunk, testified that the adult flies found on paper towels are very common with decomposition. Prosecutors believe Caylee's body was kept in the car before being left in a wooded area near Casey's home.

Haskell testified the flies were feeding on a substance on the paper towels, which was identified as decomposition fluid. He said the source of the decomposition fluids that attracted the bugs probably would have been in the car for several days.

Haskell said on Friday that the evidence is consistent with a body being left inside the trunk for a short period of time and then removed.

"That the body of a small child was stored in that trunk for a period of time and then removed and deposited in another location. Does that fit with the entomological evidence you found?" asked prosecutor Jeff Ashton.

"Absolutely," Haskell replied.

He added that the insect evidence at the scene where Caylee’s remains were recovered indicated that the body had been out there for months.

Casey Anthony Trial: Bug Expert Testifies that Body Was in Car
By Steve Helling
Saturday June 11, 2011 12:50 PM EDT

There was more grisly evidence presented at the Casey Anthony murder trial on Saturday.

An entomologist testified that evidence of flies and fly larvae, so-called "coffin flies," found on trash and paper towels that had been inside the trunk of Anthony's car are indicative of decomposition of a human body.

Neal Haskell, an expert in forensic entomology from St. Joseph's College in Indiana, said the finding is "absolutely consistent" with a body being left in the trunk, although he conceded that the body had not likely been in the trunk for long.

WFTV Discovers Possible Duct Tape Link In Casey Case
Posted: 5:06 pm EDT October 2, 2009
Updated: 6:37 pm EDT October 2, 2009

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- It's the duct tape that could strengthen the link between Casey Anthony and her daughter's body and it was discovered only by Eyewitness News.

Eyewitness News found the same rare type of tape that was found on Caylee's skull being used by the Anthony family on a Caylee Anthony poster.

You can't buy the tape from Home Depot. It is industrial-grade duct tape that hasn't been sold in years.

Bug expert testifies Caylee Anthony's body was moved By Barbara Liston
ORLANDO, Fla | Sat Jun 11, 2011 3:17pm EDT

(Reuters) - The decomposing body of 2-year-old Caylee Anthony was moved twice according to a time line provided by a bug expert on Saturday at the first degree murder trial of the girl's mother Casey Anthony.
Caylee's skeleton was found in woods near their home on December 11, 2008 following a nationwide search.

Prosecutors said Casey smothered Caylee with duct tape wrapped around her head, nose and mouth. Defense lawyer Jose Baez contends Caylee accidentally drowned in the Anthony's backyard pool and that her death went unreported.

Entomologist Neal Haskell testified Caylee's body had completed a short, initial stage of decomposition before the body allegedly was placed in Casey's car trunk.

Haskell testified he based that conclusion on the remains of flies in a trash bag in the trunk. Haskell said he found only a single leg from the type of fly that feasts on a fresh body.

But Haskell said he found hundreds of eggs and adult specimens of another type of gnat-like fly which appears during the next stage of decomposition.

Haskell said the gnats were concentrated in stains on paper towels which were determined to be fluid consistent with human decomposition. Haskel said he believed the towels were used in an attempt to clean up a similar stain on the trunk's carpet.

Haskell estimated the body remained in the car trunk for up to five days, long enough for biochemical changes that attract the gnats, before being moved directly to the woods, likely in June or early July 2008.

Casey Anthony Trial: Bug Expert Says Evidence In Car Consistent With Decomposition

First Posted: 06/11/11 07:22 PM ET Updated: 06/11/11 07:48 PM ET
Associated Press

ORLANDO, Fla.-- Caylee Anthony's skull and most of the rest of her remains were 19 feet from the road when they were found, a crime scene investigator testified Saturday.

Defense attorney Jose Baez demonstrated the remains were virtually steps from the road, nearly the same distance as the jury from the defense table, by stretching a tape measure across the courtroom. That testimony that the scene was easily accessible from the road could be significant because defense attorneys claim the meter reader who found the remains tampered with them.

The defense has said that the 2-year-old girl accidentally drowned in her grandparents' swimming pool.

Wendy Murphy article on why CA will be acquitted

Pretty disturbing, reading that.  But she does make a valid point -- because as obvious as it may seem that CA is guilty and although prosecutors have made a strong case, there's a tiny room left for doubt.  And it's a pity that that's all it takes for jurors to reach a verdict other than "guilty."

Casey Anthony: Geraldo Rivera shows Caylee’s skull photo
Caylee and Casey Anthony, Fox News Channel — posted by halboedeker on June, 12 2011 11:46 AM

Nobody does it like Geraldo Rivera, and we can be grateful there is only one of him.

Consider that graphic animation of Caylee Anthony’s face turning into a skull. Before the state showed the animation Friday, Chief Judge Belvin Perry reminded everyone that the media were aware of restrictions on showing the images by Dr. Michael Warren, a prosecution witness.

The two media pools — the Orlando Sentinel and “In Session” — understood they were to pixelate and blur the images, Perry said. And the judge noted there was ”an absolute prohibition” on the public as well.

But Rivera showed the Caylee skull image on his Fox News Channel show, “Geraldo at Large,” last night. And the animation didn’t look pixelated or blurred.

Casey Anthony Trial Day 16: Bugs don't lie
June 13, 2011 4:09 AM EDT
Casey Anthony trial on Saturday focused on bugs, bugs and bugs that were found at the site where Caylee's body was dumped as well as in the trunk of Casey’s car.

On Saturday, forensic entomologist Dr. Neal Haskell took the witness stand. He testified that Caylee's body was placed in the wood near Casey's house since about June or early July in 2008, according to the type of bugs found.
Haskell suggested that Caylee’s body was moved twice and not once as supposed earlier. Before the body was put in the trunk of Casey’s car, Caylee’s body had experienced a short, intial stage of decomposition, Haskell said.

Haskell draw the conclusion, basing on the types of bugs or maggots found in a trash bag in the trunk of Casey's car, a Pontiac Sunfire. Haskell said he found only a single leg from the type of fly - a blowfly - that feasts on a fresh dead body. But he found hundreds of eggs and adult specimens of another type of gnat-like bugs called phorid flies, which are found in the next stage of decomposition.

Haskell said the bugs were found on Caylee's remains that were found in a wooded area, on paper towels as well as inside a vacuum cleaner that were used to clean the trunk of the car.
