ORLANDO, Fla. -- Chemical testing of air samples from the trunk of Casey Anthony's car primarily showed the presence of gasoline, jurors heard in a shortened day of testimony Wednesday.

Other compounds, including chloroform, were also found, but the amount did not appear to be large, University of Central Florida chemist Michael Sigman told jurors. Testing was not done to determine the amounts, Sigman said, but "they gave very low responses in the instrument."

Report: Casey Anthony's parents believes she's not innocent
Last Updated: Thursday, June 23, 2011 5:48 AM
In a surprising new development, CNN is reporting the parents of Casey Anthony say they do not believe she is innocent.

It is a stark contrast from what the Anthony's said in the early days of this case when Casey's parents told the media over and over that their daughter had nothing to do with Caylee's death.

Orlando attorney Mark Lippman issued the following statement regarding the Anderson Cooper Show on June 22, 2011.

Lawyer: Anthony's Parents Feels She's Guilty
Despite Lack Of Confidence In Daughter's Innocence, Parents Do Not Want Death Penalty

The parents of Casey Anthony do not believe she is innocent, their lawyer told CNN.

George and Cindy Anthony do not, however, want their daughter to receive the death penalty for the killing, said lawyer Mark Lippman.

Casey Anthony, 25, is charged with seven counts in her daughter's death, including first-degree murder. If convicted, she could face the death penalty.

Lippman's bombshell statement to CNN's Gary Tuchman was discussed on "AC 360" Wednesday night. It is unclear how the remarks would affect testimony that is scheduled to continue in Anthony's capital murder trial Thursday.

"But this is important and they wanted me to stress this," said Tuchman. "They love her, they support her and they do not want her to get the death penalty and they will do all they can to avoid her getting the death penalty in this case."

Casey Anthony's defense team will continue presenting its case when her first-degree murder trial resumes at 9 a.m. today.

It's unclear who the defense will call to testify.

Attorneys spent several hours questioning FBI analysts on Wednesday, before court ended early so Chief Judge Belvin Perry could tend to matters unrelated to the case.

State crime lab chief resigns after problems raised on DUI evidence

http://www.seattlepi.com/local/article/State-crime-lab-chief-resigns-after-problems-1264475.php#ixzz1Q6zVlRq8

The head of the state labs that test crime evidence is stepping down, a move that prosecutors and defense lawyers say could help bring back lost confidence in the way drunken-driving cases are handled around the state.

Barry Logan's resignation, effective March 14, comes after a series of problems at the Washington State Patrol toxicology lab have cast doubts on breath tests for suspected drunken drivers.

"Barry has done an excellent job of addressing the issues during this difficult period," State Patrol Chief John Batiste said. "But he and I agree that forward momentum will require different leadership."

The decision stunned attorneys who have worked with Logan on criminal cases and saddened his staff, leaving some in tears, but the lab has drawn stinging criticism about errors and ethical problems in recent months.

"Too many things went wrong on his watch," said defense attorney Francisco Duarte, who specializes in DUI cases. "I believe he wanted to run a laboratory that was based on integrity -- and ultimately, he failed to do so." ::snipping2::

Day 37: Casey's Defense Tries To Counter Prosecution
Posted: 5:35 am EDT June 23, 2011Updated: 11:37 am EDT June 23, 2011
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Defense attorneys called an FBI expert on hair and fiber to the stand Thursday as they continued trying to poke holes in the prosecution's case against Casey Anthony, who is charged with killing her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee Marie Anthony.
Casey entered the courtroom just before 9:00 a.m., wearing a pink sweater set. She had her hair pulled back in a tight bun. Casey's parents Cindy and George Anthony were also present.

Court was called to order and the defense brought in their first witness, Susan Mears. She's a crime scene investigator for the FBI. The defense admitted into evidence a Gatorade bottle and a syringe. Mears was excused after the prosecution declined to question her.

Afterward, FBI hair analyst Stephen Shaw took the witness stand.

Shaw had testified for the state earlier in the trial. Defense attorney Jose Baez began questioning Shaw about a study he conducted on hair banding, which included 600 hairs taken from 15 living people that were then subjected to different elements. Images from the test were shown to the court and Shaw said apparent decomposition can be seen on the bands of hair.

Inside the Casey Anthony Trial: Who Is Judge Belvin Perry?
By Michelle Tauber
Thursday June 23, 2011 11:35 AM EDT

During the Casey Anthony murder trial, senior writer Michelle Tauber has been providing exclusive behind-the-scenes impressions and insights from PEOPLE's up-close courtroom seat

"Judge Perry is my homeboy."

So say the T-shirts that went on sale near the Orange County Regional courthouse in Orlando, Fla., shortly after Belvin Perry Jr. began presiding over the Casey Anthony murder trial on May 24.

Shrewd, sharp and utterly no-nonsense, Perry, 61, has emerged as a star during the widely watched trial, despite – or perhaps because of – his seeming disinterest in the cameras that capture the ongoing drama in courtroom 23.

In person, Perry – who presides as chief judge of Florida's massive Ninth Judicial Circuit – initially evokes The Office's world-weary Stanley: hangdog expressions, a "let's just get on with it" air. You wonder if he would rather be doing a crossword puzzle in a comfy chair at home.

Cindy: Searched Web For Chloroform, Car Stain Was Old
osted: 5:35 am EDT June 23, 2011Updated: 5:20 pm EDT June 23, 2011
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Casey Anthony's mother, Cindy Anthony, testified on Thursday in court that a stain found in Casey's car trunk was there when it was purchased. Cindy also testified that she used a computer at her home to do searches about chloroform.

Separately, an attorney for Casey's parents on Thursday sought to clarify statements to a CNN reporter in which he implied George and Cindy Anthony no longer think their daughter is Innocent (full story) . Attorney Mark Lippman said in a statement that he wanted to

"clear any misunderstanding" that came from his conversation with CNN reporter Gary Tuchman, but the statement didn't deny the claim in Tuchman's report Wednesday evening.

Lippman's statement said Cindy and George "simply want justice in this case."

Lippman also said George and Cindy still love Casey, and they will do "all they can" to stop her from being sentenced to death.

In July 2008, days after Cindy called 911 to report Caylee missing, Cindy told WFTV Casey did something.

"For whatever she's done, everybody, she has done something OK? She's holding back or whatever it is, otherwise Caylee would be right here with us. So she has done something. So, I forgive her for whatever that is," Cindy told reporter Kathi Belich in 2008.

Casey is charged with first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse, aggravated manslaughter of a child and four counts of lying to law enforcement. She has pleaded not guilty and faces the death penalty if convicted.

Testimony Continues After Casey's Mom Shocks Court
Posted: 5:43 am EDT June 24, 2011Updated: 6:23 am EDT June 24, 2011
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Surprising prosecutors, Casey Anthony’s mother, Cindy Anthony, testified that she had conducted Internet searches on chloroform on their home computer.
Casey is charged with killing her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee Marie Anthony. Friday marks day 38, including jury selection, in Casey's murder trial.

Cindy Anthony's testimony on Thursday directly contradicted prosecutors' theory that Casey was the one who made the Internet searches.

Chloroform is a chemical compound that can be used to knock someone unconscious and also is found in human decomposition.

She said she started searching chlorophyll, but Google sent her elsewhere. Her attorney said she's telling the truth and not just trying to protect Casey.

"She testified as truthfully today as she did when she testified for the state of Florida,” said attorney Mark Lippman.

Lippman said Cindy Anthony’s memory is now better because of medication, and now she remembers being home from work on the day "chloroform" was Goggled.

O’Mara said prosecutors will have to go after Cindy “as someone who seemingly is changing their testimony and shading it in favor of their daughter. And that’s the tack they’re going to take from now on.”

Mark Lippman, attorney for George and Cindy Anthony, was asked if Cindy was lying for Casey. “Absolutely not,” he replied.

Kathi Belich saw things differently on WFTV-Channel 9. “Cindy Anthony told a whole new story under oath today, even claimed she’s the one who looked up neck-breaking,” Belich said. “Cindy’s testimony was inconsistent today with itself and inconsistent to what she’s said before.”

Judge O.H. Eaton Jr., legal analyst WESH, saw problems with Cindy’s testimony. “She certainly did shoot some holes in the prosecutors’ case, if she is credible,” he said. “She came across today a little less credible than she did before. She equivocated some, she tailored her testimony towards her daughter some.”

Letting George and Cindy Anthony sit in the courtroom was a mistake, Eaton said. “This is a perfect example of why witnesses should not be allowed to stay in the courtroom,” Eaton said.   ::snipping2::

Nothing but to Lie

CORAL GABLES (LALATE) – The Cindy Anthony testimony you heard today in the Casey Anthony trial was not a change from her deposition, claimed Anthony attorney Mark Lippman. The Cindy Anthony testimony today about chloroform, how to make chloroform, and stains inside the Pontiac Sunfire was quickly dubbed “bombshell” testimony”, “changing testimony”, and a shocker by news. But Lippman tonight told news that Cindy Anthony’s testimony today at trial was the same that she gave in her deposition in 2009.

Cindy Anthony was called by Jose Baez on his defense case-in-chief Thursday. Baez initially asked Cindy Anthony about her work timesheets, then about the Pontiac Sunfire, and finally about her online searches.

Cindy Anthony first said that her timesheets are not a far indication if she was or wasn’t at home on March 17 or March 21. Rather, she said that her employer prohibited overtime hours so often she would have to accountant for her hours by listing extra days.

The State seemed shocked by Cindy’s assertion that she was home that day. Lippman implied the State was acting up for the jury. Why? He says that they asked Cindy in her depo about her search activities online at home those two days. He said they didn’t rule out her being at home, and even asked her about questions presuming she was at home and the work logs were inaccurate.

Casey Anthony trial: Baez expects to wrap up by Thursday
By Anthony Colarossi and Water Pacheco, Orlando Sentinel
5:12 p.m. EDT, June 24, 2011
A defense attorney for Casey Anthony just told Chief Judge Belvin Perry that he expects to rest his case by Thursday, meaning jurors can expect another five days of defense strategy.

State prosecutors estimated they need another one or two days after that to respond to what the defense has presented.

Perry said he expects to issue an order next week about "basic parameters" of the process to bring this case to a close.

Defense testimony will continue for a full day Saturday, resume Monday and continue through Thursday.

Defense Attorney Jose Baez accused state prosecutors or investigators of improperly withholding information – an alleged discovery violation.

Baez said Detective Yuri Melich testified he obtained Anthony family phone records from June to December 2008

But Baez said he only had two weeks of phone records.

"We don't have the rest,'' Baez said.

State prosecutor Linda Drane Burdick said she will ask Melich about what Baez said is missing.

She was unaware of any intentional discovery violations.
