Casey Anthony could be free in just 6 days

On Thursday, Judge Belvin Perry sentenced Casey to four years in prison for lying to investigators, with a $1,000 fine for each of four false statements she made to law enforcement.

However, because she has already served nearly three years behind bars, and has had good behavior at the Orange County Jail, a court administrator said Casey could go free as early as Wednesday, July 13, 2011.

That's just six days from her sentencing.

If it was murder, who did it? If she died accidentally, then who was the child's caretaker?

But Juror No. 2 didn't buy that.

"The six that voted guilty said it didn't matter at what point in time she came home and found out her daughter was missing," he said. "She had to report it in some way, shape or form, and that's where the negligence came in."

But some jurors, he said, had decided not to convict Casey Anthony of any charge in the girl's death. By lunch Tuesday, the guilty side started to lose votes.

Juror No. 2 was the last holdout. Deliberations lasted for 11 hours over two days. They filed into court at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday to hand over their verdict.

"We truly don't know what happened," he said. "Somebody knows, but we don't know."

Casey Anthony Trial's Never-Ending Nightmare: Lifetime Effect on Jurors

Casey Anthony murder trial has been a long nightmare for her family, the jurors, and those who followed emotionally through the trial, verdict and sentencing. Even after today's sentencing and beyond Anthony's release on July 13th, the never-to-be-known cause of Caylee's death and the sickening memories of the long trial may haunt the nation for a while. For the jurors, there may be lifetime effects, said a psychotherapist.
"They saw, which we were spared of not seeing, horrific pictures of her bones, her brain. So yes, I think there can be some post traumatic stress," said psychotherapist Dr. Fran Sherman, reports NBC's WPTV. In high-profile murder cases, jurors could feel guilty upon hearing the public reaction, said Sherman.

One juror told the St. Petersburg Times in an exclusive interview, saying "I wish we had more evidence to put her away. I truly do," reports CBS News.

Publicly known as Juror No.2, the juror told the Times, "Everybody agreed, if we were going fully on feelings and emotions, she was done." But the jurors instead went on the evidence presented before them, and as a conclusion, acquitted Anthony because there were not enough pieces to convict her.

I'm curious, if the remains had been found in August, did any of your experts say that they would have been any more powerful or more potent position to give you an opinion as to the cause of death?
ASHTON: Most of the experts have told us that in all likelihood -- pardon me -- by the beginning of July, the body was completely skeletonized. So there might have been some difference in the evidence, but essentially, her body was in the form that we saw it in December all the way back in, like, late July, August. So it would have still been a skeleton at that point.
VAN SUSTEREN: What about just in terms of, you know, the placement of the duct tape? I mean, was that in any way moved by the elements, by the water retreating, by the sun, by even animals, anything like that? Because it seemed to me that that cause of death was so critical to your case.
ASHTON: It's possible. I mean, we don't really know. There was a huge tropical storm that came in late August, Tropical Storm Fay, which from all accounts completely flooded the entire area. So it might have been in better circumstance then, though even in -- on August the 11th, Roy Kronk's original statement was that the area was under water somewhat. But certainly, two weeks after that, it was completely flooded. So you never know.
VAN SUSTEREN: Casey Anthony didn't testify. And I guess it's not a huge surprise. But were you ready for her testimony? Did you expect that she might?
ASHTON: We did. I think after the opening statement, we expected her to. As the trial wore on, we became more and more convinced that she wouldn't. But Linda Burdick, who was lead counsel, was prepared to cross- examine her and so very effectively. Of course, she just never got the chance. ::snipping2::

Court seeks to protect Casey Anthony, jurors

Concern over the safety of Casey Anthony and the jurors who found her not guilty in the death of her daughter, Caylee Anthony, has the Florida court where the case was heard on alert.

It released a statement Thursday night saying that, for security reasons, "appropriate measures will be taken" when Anthony is released.
She will be let go at a secret location, reports CBS News correspondent Karen Brown.

There's also concern for the 12 jurors who voted to acquit Anthony. Judge Belvin Perry hasn't released the jurors' names, and may decide not to, out of fear for their safety-- a highly unusual step, Brown reported on "The Early Show."

The inevitable juror cameos have begun. Juror Number Three, now known as Jennifer Ford, spoke to Nightline. She came forward to give her explanation for the shocking acquittal that freed Casey Anthony of any criminal liability for the killing of her baby, Caylee Anthony.

No doubt she meant to justify the verdict. On that score, she failed. But she succeeded in showing us a great deal about the dynamics and thinking of this jury—significantly, this sequestered jury.

I was reaching. I was trying to, you know, like I said, if they are all three there and no medical attention is given then that's -- that's -- what's it? Culpable negligence, failure to provide safety and medical care and things like that.

Bill O'Reilly: What on earth is Jennifer Ford talking about? Failure to provide safety and medical care for what? Are you kidding me?
There is no evidence that Caylee Anthony died from an accident. None. It was a theory from the defense team, Maybe a Martian came down and put duct tape over Caylee's mouth? Juries have to operate on facts, not irresponsible, unproved theories.
 

If alleged murderers can get acquitted based on theoretical fantasies, then our entire justice system has collapsed. It's that simple.

What was behind Mason’s anger after Anthony’s acquittal? I gained insights from Geraldo Rivera of Fox News Channel. Rivera, a friend of defense attorney Jose Baez, complained about how Baez had been treated by local attorneys on television.

“There’s a big difference between Casey and Jose,” Rivera said. “There was negative press directed at Jose by the local Bar. They were relentless in the attacks on him, people like Mark NeJame. They went after Jose in a way that was vicious. Jose has proved himself. He could have folded a million times. He stood his ground. He was David against Goliath. The Constitution protects unpopular people. The fact is he got paid chump change, sacrificing three years of his life. He is owed a huge apology from the local Bar and NeJame and other people.”

NeJame’s response? “Geraldo has done as much research on me as he did on Al Capone’s vault.”

With time served and gain time for good behavior, Anthony will be released from jail on July 17. It is unclear where she will go when she is freed as the relationship with her parents, George and Cindy Anthony, appears to have been strained by allegations from her defense of sexual abuse within the family.

The motion argues that although the video was originally ruled to be highly inflammatory if it was released, because the trial is completed there is no risk of prejudice to the defendant's right to a fair trial.

Money Rolls In To Casey's Jail Account

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The day after Casey Anthony's verdict was read in the courtroom, the money started rolling in.

Jail records show just as the trial was wrapping up, people who presumably don't know Casey were sending her money in jail.

Three checks-- from Iowa, Pennsylvania and even Canada-- were deposited in Casey's jail account on Wednesday. In all, the checks amounted to $40.

Penalties wanted for not reporting missing children

TALLAHASSEE - Lawmakers outraged over Casey Anthony’s acquittal have responded by proposing so-called Caylee’s laws that would allow prosecutors to bring felony charges against parents who do not quickly report missing children.
The new measures were triggered, at least in part, by an online petition that had more than 700,000 signatures yesterday. Some questioned whether a new law would do any good because the circumstances of the Anthony case were so rare, but lawmakers in at least a dozen states have already floated proposals reacting to the verdict.
“Casey Anthony broke new ground in brazenness,’’ said Scott Plakon, a Florida state representative who is sponsoring the proposal. “It’s very sad that we even need a law like this, but Casey Anthony just proved that we do as unfortunate as that is.’’ ::snipping2::
