Social media sites keep Anthony case alive
By Natalie DiBlasio, and Luke Kerr-Dineen
Posted 8m ago
Casey Anthony was acquitted of murdering her daughter, but scores of Facebook posts still hound her.
Thousands of members of the social networking site have set up Casey Anthony pages to criticize her, curse at her and even follow her when she is released Sunday.

Some pages are memorials to Caylee Anthony, 2, who disappeared in June 2008. A month later, the child's grandmother reported her missing; her body was found in December. On July 5, a jury found Casey Anthony not guilty of killing her.

By late Monday afternoon, 16,265 people had pledged to "Wear Purple for Caylee Anthony's Birthday" onAug. 9. ::snipping2::

Lead investigators in Casey Anthony case speaking out
Last Updated: Monday, July 11, 2011 10:05 PM

Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings plans to speak briefly Tuesday afternoon about the investigation before turning it over to some of the key witnesses in this case.

They are:

Cpl. Yuri Melich, with the Criminal Investigation Division, who from the very beginning felt Anthony's story about how Caylee disappeared just didn't add up.
Sgt. John Allen, also with the Criminal Investigations Division.
CSI Gerardo Bloise, a forensics expert who testified multiple times during the trial.
Deputy Sheriff Jason Forgey, who handled the K-9 in the search for Caylee's remains.
Deputy Sheriff Sandra Osborne, a computer crimes expert who searched the Anthony’s home computer for evidence of a "Zanny the Nanny," as well as key word searches for "chloroform."
Cpl. Eric Edwards, of the Criminal Investigation Division.
    Ron Murdock, a forensics supervisor.

Casey Anthony: Investigators’ news conference to receive wide coverage
Caylee and Casey Anthony, Central Florida News 13, WESH, WFTV, WKMG, WOFL — posted by halboedeker on July, 12 2011 11:24 AM

The news conference starts at 1:30 p.m. Sgt. John Allen, Cpl. Yuri Melich and Cpl. Eric Edwards will take part. And so will crime scene investigator Gerardo Bloise and Deputy Jason Forgey.

You’ll find coverage on Central Florida News 13, WOFL-Channel 35 and WKMG-Channel 6.

WFTV-Channel 9 plans to stream the news conference live online and recap the highlights in evening newscasts. The ABC affiliate doesn’t want to disrupt the schedule of soap fans who want to see “All My Children” and “One Life to Live.” But that plan could change, WFTV General Manager Shawn Bartelt said ::snipping2::

Casey Investigators To Hold 1:30PM Press Conference
Posted: 11:46 am EDT July 12, 2011Updated: 1:05 pm EDT July 12, 2011
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Investigators who worked on the Casey Anthony case will speak out at a press conference on Tuesday.

The detectives from the Orange County Sheriff's Office, who worked many long, hard hours searching for Caylee Anthony for six months after Casey now admits she was dead, are going to share their thoughts and feelings with reporters at the sheriff's headquarters.

Seven investigators who searched for Caylee and processed the evidence against Casey, including the crime scene investigators, cadaver dog handler and the computer crimes expert, will answer WFTV's questions at 1:30 p.m.

Orange County Sheriff's Detective Yuri Melich, who was the lead investigator in the murder case, will be among the sheriff's officers who will finally be able to tell their stories now that the case is closed.

Melich and Sgt. John Allen were the ones who took Casey to Universal Studios to see how far she'd take her lies about what happened to Caylee. They questioned her extensively, only to have her dig in her heels and cling to her lies. ::snipping2::

Casey Anthony: It would be sheer insanity for ABC to interview her
ABC, Barbara Walters, Caylee and Casey Anthony, Disney, Katie Couric — posted by halboedeker on July, 12 2011 12:21 PM

There’s speculation that ABC News might want to interview Casey Anthony.

And, whoa, wouldn’t that be sheer insanity for a company owned by family friendly Disney?

E! Online’s Ted  Casablanca quotes a “source at ABC News” as saying the network would “love” to land the Anthony interview and that ABC newbie Katie Couric would be the ideal interviewer. ::snipping2::

Melich said he's still taken aback at how Anthony acted once Caylee was finally reported missing.

"It's still amazing to me how she reacted during the interview," Melich said.

Melich said the case wouldn't have been taken to the grand jury unless they thought the case was strong enough.

Anthony cops defend case to reporters
By the CNN Wire Staff
July 12, 2011 2:59 p.m. EDT
Orlando (CNN) -- The detectives who built the murder case against Casey Anthony said Tuesday they stand behind their evidence but urge the public to respect the jury's verdict of acquittal.

"I wish there was something I could say that would bring closure to everyone, but there isn't," Orange County Sheriff's Office Cpl. Yuri Melich told reporters. "I just know that, unfortunately, people are going to have to come to their own sense of closure within themselves and understand that as far as this case is concerned, as far as the judicial system is concerned, there's nothing else we can do."

Investigators with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office answer questions about the Casey Anthony case.

ORLANDO --

It’s the first and apparently the last time that investigators with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office will answer questions about the Casey Anthony case.

An hour long press conference was held Tuesday at the sheriff’s office headquarters.

Even though Casey was found not guilty, there’s still work going on related to the case.

There's a witness tampering investigation ongoing involving a former Texas EquuSearch volunteer, possible perjury charges for Cindy Anthony, as well as threats made against the Anthony family and the jury.

Texas EquuSearch Files Lawsuit Against Casey Anthony's Family

HOUSTON - Tim Miller and Texas EquuSearch spent 2 weeks and more than $100,000 in their search for Caylee Anthony. They want their money back.

EquuSearch has filed a lawsuit against Casey Anthony’s family in an attempt to recoup expenses from that fruitless search.

Can Anthony Be Tried In Federal Court?
New Website Petitions To Have Anthony Tried Again
POSTED: Tuesday, July 12, 2011
UPDATED: 4:27 pm EDT July 12, 2011

In Anthony's case, however, legal experts said there appears to be no federal issue.

"The government can't keep trying you until they get it right. However, the federal government can try you for something the state government has also tried you for if they have a similar statute for those acts," criminal defense attorney Janet Johnson said. "In this case, they don't."

"The problem in this situation isn't double jeopardy," Priester said. "The problem is going to be having a crime to charge her with."

Even if the website is successful in gaining the support it needs to create a new federal law designed to punish crimes like the ones tried against Anthony, applying a new law against her in the future would be against the law.

"Even if it was passed, they couldn't then try her retroactively," Johnson said. "It would be an ex post facto law, and the Constitution prohibits that." ::snipping2::

The gruesome discovery took an emotional toll on detectives who have seen it all throughout their careers.

"To me, the personal toll was the fact that by looking at how they treated this poor child. Let the child rot in the woods is inhuman," Melich said.

The jurors might have had what they believe is reasonable doubt over not knowing exactly how Caylee died, but not the detectives.

"I certainly don't have any doubt. Working on this, I felt that our case was solid," said Sgt. John Allen.

The Casey case is closed, but the witness tampering investigation involving an altered Texas Equusearch document that was in the possession of her defense team is ongoing.

"A defense team investigator having possession of something that could be a fabricated document. How far could it go or don't you know yet?" reporter Kathi Belich asked Sgt. Allen.

"We don't know. Obviously we'll follow up. Obviously there are still a number of people we will need to interview in regard to that and we hope to get to the bottom of that," said Sgt. Allen. ::snipping2::
