Emergency Motion Filed In Casey Civil Case
Attorneys For Zenaida Gonzalez Don't Want Casey To Disappear
POSTED: 4:04 pm EDT July 13, 2011
UPDATED: 5:43 pm EDT July 13, 2011

The subpoena asked that Anthony appear at 10 a.m. on July 19 at the law offices of Morgan and Morgan in Orlando.

The subpoena warned that Anthony could be held in contempt of court if she fails to appear.

Gonzalez claims Casey ruined her reputation by saying someone with her name abducted Caylee Anthony in 2008.

A hearing on the emergency motion has been set for 10 a.m. Friday. WESH.com will stream the hearing live. ::snipping2::

Casey Anthony: How social media tweaked defense strategy
By Walter Pacheco, Orlando Sentinel

5:30 p.m. EDT, July 13, 2011

A consultant for Casey Anthony's attorneys analyzed more than 40,000 highly-charged opinions — negative and positive — on social media sites and blogs, and used them to help the defense craft their trial strategy.

Whether it worked or not is difficult to gauge, but a jury last week found Casey Anthony not guilty of murdering her 2-year-old daughter Caylee Marie.

"When bloggers and others in social media sites started to attack George Anthony about his alleged mistress, the defense team beefed up their questions against him," said Fort Lauderdale-based consultant Amy Singer. "None of the bloggers ever changed their minds about him."

The innovative pro-bono tactic by Singer shows how social media sites like Facebook and Twitter could revolutionize the way lawyers defend their clients, especially in highly-publicized cases like the Casey Anthony murder trial.

"This is the first time I have heard of this kind of consulting for a trial and it's incredible," said Florida A&M University professor Shiv Persaud. "It definitely might become a part of my curriculum in trial practice. We could benefit from a new type of tool we didn't have before." ::snipping2::

ORLANDO, Fla. -- In a matter of weeks, attorney Lisabeth Fryer went from class valedictorian and intern for Judge O.H. Eaton to arguing motions for Casey Anthony's defense in front of a worldwide audience. Fryer said it was a "baptism by fire."
"It was very terrifying. The stakes were high and I wanted to make sure I didn't let anyone down. I really appreciated Judge Perry being generous with me when I went up to argue," Fryer told WESH 2 News in an exclusive interview.

Casey Anthony to Basically Live in Witness Protection Program

Once Anthony reaches the still-secret location where she will live (known to a handful of people - but not my source) she is expected to live under a pseudonym, "almost as if she was living in a witness protection-like program," to avoid being harassed. ::snipping2::

Bounty Hunter To Sue Casey Anthony, Jose Baez
Leonard Padilla Says He Was Deceived; Wants To Recover Costs

POSTED: Wednesday, July 13, 2011
UPDATED: 8:18 pm EDT July 13, 2011

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The bounty hunter who temporarily bonded Casey Anthony out of jail in 2008 announced plans on Wednesday to file a lawsuit against her and her lead criminal defense attorney, Jose Baez.

Leonard Padilla said he was deceived by Anthony and Baez back in 2008 when he led his team of bounty hunters and security personnel from California to Florida to help find Anthony's daughter, Caylee, alive.

Padilla said Baez's opening statements in Anthony's murder trial, where he declared Caylee was never missing and had drowned in the family pool, proves both Anthony and Baez lied to Padilla in order to get his needed financial and logistical assistance to get Anthony out on bond. ::snipping2::

Attorney Files Motion For Casey's Deposition In Civil Suit
Posted: 6:20 pm EDT July 13, 2011Updated: 6:44 am EDT July 14, 2011
ORLANDO, Fla. -- An emergency hearing has been scheduled for Friday morning after a motion was filed to require Casey Anthony to give a deposition in a civil suit brought by a woman who is suing her for defamation.

Casey goes free on Sunday, but it's taken almost no time for the lawsuits to start piling up against her.

WFTV caught up with attorney Cheney Mason on Wednesday.

"Where is Casey going," WFTV reporter Kathi Belich asked Mason.

"Free," he replied.

"Is she going to go to Puerto Rico?" Belich replied.

“Now listen I told you, I don't know where she's going, and if I did I wouldn't tell you,” said Mason.

The emergency hearing was scheduled for Friday morning, over concerns that Casey will skip town after she is released.

The motion arises from a suit brought by Zenaida Gonzalez in 2008. She alleges that she incurred public ridicule after Casey initially told investigators that a woman with the same name kidnapped Caylee.

"Either she will assert the Fifth Amendment privilege or she's just going to say 'I'm not talking to you about this at all,'" WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer said. "And good luck with getting a money damage and then super good luck on collecting."

NBC in lead for first Casey Anthony interview

NBC has emerged as the front-runner in the scramble for the first interview with Casey Anthony.

Anthony's lawyer Jose Baez -- who was in New York for several days this week quietly meeting with network reps -- is saying any TV appearance is at least six to nine months away, according to sources familiar with the talks.

It was not clear yesterday if Anthony is asking to be paid for an interview -- a move that would likely set off a public outrage.

But media insiders yesterday indicated that NBC had picked up the tab for Baez's trip here.

A spokeswoman for NBC News last night said she did not have enough information to comment ::snipping2::

Leonard Padilla suing Casey Anthony

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Casey Anthony has another lawsuit to deal with. Bounty hunter Leonard Padilla says he is filing lawsuit against Anthony and her attorney Jose Baez seeking $200,000.00 compensation for the money they spent searching for Caylee and money spent on travel, private detectives, security guards.

Padilla says both Anthony and Baez knew that Caylee was dead. Padilla said he believed Anthony when she said that Caylee was kidnapped and also believed in Baez.

Padilla’s lawsuit is similar to the one filed by Tim Miller and Texas Equusearch. Miller says Texas Equusearch spent more than $100,000.00 searching for a child who was never really missing.

n the response by Casey's civil attorney, Greene is asking Judge Rodriguez to cancel the hearing, stop the deposition and he's requesting a case management conference which would, essentially, set up how the case should proceed.

Greene lists a number of reasons saying Morgan "refused to reschedule the deposition when counsel was available."

Greene has a trial scheduled to begin next Tuesday. He said Casey, at this point, would have no choice other than to assert her 5th Amendment right against self incrimination.

He said the criminal trial for her was, "a grueling experience that has left her emotionally and mentally exhausted." Essentially, Greene's response reads there's no legitimate emergency for a hearing or a deposition to happen immediately.

It's now up to Judge Rodriguez as to whether or not there will be court tomorrow.

Casey Anthony fights call for questioning in defamation suit
By the CNN Wire Staff
July 14, 2011 1:01 p.m. EDT
Orlando (CNN) -- Casey Anthony will take invoke her Fifth Amendment rights if forced to sit for questioning in a defamation case two days after her upcoming release from jail, her attorneys said in a court motion Thursday.

Anthony, who was acquitted last week of killing her 2-year-old daughter Caylee, is being sued by a woman whose name she gave to police as her child's nanny. Lawyers for the woman, Zenaida Fernandez Gonzalez, have asked a judge to make Anthony sit for a deposition in that lawsuit on Tuesday.

But Anthony's lawyer in the civil case, Charles Greene, said his client can't be forced to sit for a deposition so soon after a "grueling" trial that left her "emotionally and mentally exhausted." In addition, he said the deposition is scheduled on a day that he will be in trial on another case, and that Anthony "would have no viable choice but to assert her Fifth Amendment rights" if the proceeding goes ahead.

"Given the inadequate time to prepare and discuss the issues, that would likely be the only advisable course of action," he wrote. "Consequently, the deposition would be nothing more than yet another media spectacle and frenzy. ::snipping2::

Lead investigator for Casey Anthony defense, from Port St. Lucie, says Casey will ‘go into hiding' after jail release Sunday | Videos

Despite her acquittal on murder charges, when Casey Anthony is freed from jail Sunday in Orlando she'll face an uncertain future, and may always be blamed for the death of her toddler daughter, her lead defense investigator said this week.

"Everywhere she goes, five years from now, 10 years from now, there's going to be somebody yelling 'baby killer' to her," said Jeremiah "Jerry" Lyons, of Port St. Lucie, a private investigator hired in 2009 by Anthony's attorney Jose Baez, of Kissimmee. ::snipping2::

Emergency hearing in Zenaida Gonzalez civil case against Casey Anthony today
By Adam Longo, Reporter

Independent sources confirm there will be an emergency case management hearing in the civil case against Casey Anthony Friday morning at 8 a.m.

Casey herself is not expected to attend. The hearing will be held in the ceremonial courtroom on the 23rd floor of the Orange County Courthouse.

Wednesday, Morgan filed an emergency motion asking Judge Jose Rodriguez to compel Casey's appearance at the deposition saying he's worried she might leave the area. He also requested a hearing.

Greene's response asked Judge Rodriguez to cancel the hearing, stop the deposition and schedule a case management conference which would, essentially, set up how the case should proceed.

Greene lists a number of reasons saying Morgan "refused to reschedule the deposition when counsel was available."

Greene has a trial scheduled to begin next Tuesday. He said Casey, if a deposition was to happen within the next week, would have no choice other than to assert her Fifth Amendment right against self incrimination.

He said the criminal trial for her was "a grueling experience that has left her emotionally and mentally exhausted." Essentially, Greene's response reads there's no legitimate emergency for a hearing or a deposition to happen immediately.

Meanwhile, Casey's attorneys paid her a visit at the Orange County Jail Thursday.

Jose Baez spent about 50 minutes inside the jail and did not want to comment on his way out.

A few hours later, Greene and Allison Edwards, Casey's civil lawyers, came by.

An emergency hearing Friday morning in the Casey Anthony civil case was over in less than 20 minutes.

The hearing, mostly conducted in sidebar, ended with Judge Jose Rodriguez saying the court will assign a new judge to preside over the civil case brought on by Zenaida Gonzalez, the woman who said Casey ruined her life after claiming a nanny by the same name took her daughter, Caylee, in 2008.

A timetable for a decision is not known.
