I can't believe the Arubans say they have a democracy and yet allow a government sponsored boycott against one of their own citizens' business?

That is NOT democracy, Arubans.

It is the type of Government that Hugo loves..in fact, if he took over tomorrow, they probably would not even know the difference.

A Democratic boycott is one that comes FROM the people. This boycott is more like a Fascist Dictate AGAINST the people.
The sickest thing is that these pathetic asses do not know the difference.

Aruba.....After cancelling your newspaper subscription and ads in Dario, as an MEP member, what can you expect next.....any word from your leader must now be followed....what power you have given him....he can and will affect your every day life....you should take a hard look at what is happening right now....the train is speeding along and you may not be
able to get off if you do not get off now.

Quote from: "Lala'sMom"
Hey guys! This just in:  Local area Wally World reported the strangest thing today.  Some woman raced into the store and grabbed a shopping cart.  Taking out three elderly ladies in aisle 5, the person then demanded entrance to the self-checkout lane.  She said she was just trying it out.  After a quick exit the person in question ran a red light at the intersection and zoomed off into the sunset.  Witnesses claim the person driving the car resembled a monkey.  One of the elderly ladies said she was mumbling about a our southern accents and our slow paced driving.  Police believe this person had an accomplice in the car that was armed and dangerous.  Should anyone see these two monkeys...uh, I mean...women please call the authorities.  Do not attempt to apprehend!

Klaas I have proof you were in my neighborhood...wonder if there is a reward?  Was that San riding shotgun with you? Rolling Eyes

I agree with you guys, Memere & Art.  Do these people not see what is happening?  How dangerous it is?  Well, there again, they are easily led around and fed a bunch of crap that they lap up like milk and don't question the government.

Once again, reminds me how lucky I am to live in the US

Why am I not surprised?

Always disappointed -- but not surprised.

Kimmy, I am thankful to live in the US also!

I think this is a prime example how a small country like Aruba can be swallowed up by a dictatorship.

OMG! No wonder Diario has been looking/acting different these last couple of days ...

http://www.amigoe.com/english/

Quote
Diario turns to Queen

ORANJESTAD – In an open letter, staff and management of the morning paper Diario have asked the Queen’s attention for the commercial boycott called by the MEP and her leader, Prime Minister Nelson Oduber.

MEP demanded the owner and also director and chief editor Jossy Mansur to publicly apologize to MEP and premier Oduber for all the articles he has published with the intention to damage the reputation of the government and MEP.  Mansur has till last Monday to do this, otherwise, the MEP will announce a boycott against Diario.

Since Mansur ignored MEP’s ultimatum, the party decided on a total boycott of the newspaper.  No information must be given to Diario.  MEP-member had to cancel their subscription as per immediate..  They are also not allowed to buy the paper separately.  They cannot place ads in the Diario.

That’s the reason for Diario’s letter to the Queen.  He expressed his concern in this letter and asks the Queen to ‘safeguard our constitutional rights’.

Easy just shared something with me that Jossy told him in their discussion of the boycott of Diario:

"DIARIO cannot be silenced, that I assure you. We are the guardians of the general interests of the Aruban people, and it is our obligation to report corruptive practices. That cannot and will not change."

Jossy is a very brave man, IMO.

BLAST FROM THE PAST

01-29-2006

old charlierat post:

I have submitted letters to the Birmingham News in the past but, to my knowledge, they haven't been printed.

I'm pleasantly surprised that the Meridian Star printed my letter (with only a little editing on their part). I also can't wait to see the reaction from the reactionaries of Lauderdale County, Mississippi. I wonder if I'll get any personal contacts since they saw fit to post my full name and hometown. I say, bring it!

I will say 2 things, before I leave.BOR was totally wrong last night.Even illegal children(and we do have a problem) deserve the same protection and concern for their safety that legal children get.Being illegal and being KILLIED by a drunk driver is not a defense.Next-I can't find charlie listed by the Alabama Bar as a lawyer.HMMMM  cat

What a great trip!

I will try to keep this report within reason but I have a lot to say about my first trip back to Aruba since 1972.

Charlie Ratcliff Returns to Aruba

Charlie Ratcliff is a special Aruba visitor. In his own words he explains it the following: Friday, November 17th was my 50th birthday. On this date in 1956, I was born in the Lago Community Hospital in Seroe Colorado. I lived here on Aruba until 1972, when my father retired from Lago. I have not been back to Aruba since then until now.
