Spierer's Parents: 'Somebody Knows Exactly Where She Is'
Rob, Charlene Spierer Promise To Keep Searching

POSTED: 6:57 pm EDT August 31, 2011
UPDATED: 7:52 pm EDT August 31, 2011

"Somebody is responsible for Lauren's disappearance and somebody knows exactly where she is, and they're just sitting by watching us every day go through the process of trying to find Lauren," Charlene Spierer said.

"We hope the people who last saw her would be more forthcoming in meeting the police and sharing information with the police," Rob Spierer said.

But the investigation into Spierer's disappearance faltered when several persons of interest retained attorneys, the couple said.

 ::snipping2::

While the Spierers search for their daughter, they're advocating safety on IU's campus. They're throwing an event at the end of the month and have hung new posters about Lauren's case around Bloomington.

"It's a reminder that Lauren is not there. It's a reminder that someone needs to come forward and do the right thing," Rob Spierer said. "It's a reminder that maybe someone should be more careful and sensible about their own safety."

Lauren Spierer disappearance: Parents don't believe her college friends
Sep 1, 2011
Written by Shawn Cohen

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The parents of Lauren Spierer said today that they highly doubt that their daughter was abducted by a stranger and expressed skepticism about the statements of two friends who were among the last to see her.

 ::snipping2::

For the first time, she and husband Robert Spierer raised doubts about specific statements made by friends, including Corey Rossman's claim that he suffered memory loss and Jay Rosenbaum's claim that Spierer, a 20-year-old graduate of Edgemont High School, used his cellphone to call a friend before she left his apartment.

"I know he claims she made the call, but I have no reason to believe she actually made the call," Robert Spierer said.

 ::snipping2::

Rossman's lawyer said his client has no memory of his last hours with her after he wast punched in the face at her apartment building. The lawyer has said that Spierer had to assist Rossman back to his apartment.

"It's hard for me to imagine Lauren, with her size, helping someone of Corey's size from Smallwood Plaza to his apartment," Robert Spierer said. "Maybe he'd be willing to take a police polygraph."

Charlene Spierer will share a letter Saturday written directly to those who know something about her daughter's case.

Supporters are asked to change their Facebook and Twitter profile pictures to the newest Find Lauren poster to raise awareness on the three-month mark.

Lauren Spierer: Parents of missing student soldier on
Sep 2, 2011
Written by Shawn Cohen

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The parents of Indiana University student Lauren Spierer are doing all they can to keep their daughter's disappearance in the public eye, hoping to generate fresh leads, though their tone has shifted.

They're well aware that their daughter may be dead, so the frantic desperation in their eyes has turned to a calm and steady resolve. Moving into their own apartment in downtown Bloomington, the couple said they have no plans to return full-time to Edgemont until this case is solved.

 ::snipping2::

They announced another event they're planning for Sept. 22, a concert featuring two live bands on the main lawn of the IU campus.

 ::snipping2::

"I read everything," Charlene Spierer noted.

At times, the Spierers notice comments online that appear to be tips, including one speculating that Lauren Spierer was taken to another state. They share them with police, and officers track them down.

"There's a disconnect between communications provided to the Police Department and the social media chatter related to Lauren's case," her father said. "This (chatter) is not going to the Police Department, and we don't know why."

READ: Missing Student's Mother Scribes Letter to Person Responsible for Daughter's Disappearance
"You are guilty of a heinous crime," Charlene Spierer writes in letter
Saturday, Sep 3, 2011  |  Updated 4:58 PM EDT

Lauren Spierer, a 20-year-old Indiana University student from Westchester County, disappeared after a night out with friends on June 3. Over the twelve weeks, volunteers helped organize massive searches for the aspiring fashion major, tens of thousands of individuals followed the case on social media and strangers across the nation demonstrated an outpouring of support for Lauren’s devastated, yet determined family, who has sworn never to give up until they find Lauren.

To date, police still do not know what happened to her.

Today marks the three-month anniversary of her disappearance.

Lauren’s heartbroken mother, Charlene, released the following letter through the Twitter account @NewsonLaurenS. The letter clearly expresses her anger at the person she believes knows what happened to Lauren, and where Lauren is, but has not spoken up.

Below is the unedited letter.

Lauren Spierer's friends, persons of interest, hide in plain sight on Indiana campus
11:43 PM, Sep. 2, 2011
Written by Shawn Cohen

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — A sweltering night in downtown Bloomington, and Jay Rosenbaum stepped out of his apartment, shirtless and carrying an open bottle of Heineken beer.

"I'm 21!" he told a news reporter Thursday, sounding somewhat defensive as if he were being scrutinized for a possible drinking violation.
Then he faced the question he's heard, in varying forms, countless times these past three months: "Can you tell me about your involvement with Lauren Spierer the morning she went missing?"

"Talk to my lawyer," he replied, before walking two doors down and entering the apartment of friends Corey Rossman and Mike Beth.

 ::snipping2::

All of the persons of interest, including David Rohn, who lives in Spierer's building, and her boyfriend, Jesse Wolff, have ducked interviews, referring all questions to their lawyers, who also are not talking.

 ::snipping2::

Approached by the same reporter again late Friday night, Rosenbaum stepped from his door.

He was asked again to discuss what happened. Rosenbaum, who was the last person to report seeing her, was asked about prior reporting by The Journal News regarding his final interactions with Spierer. The paper, quoting friends of Rosenbaum, reported previously that Spierer visited him that morning, that he tried to get her to sleep over, but let her leave after she showed she could walk without stumbling. He said he then saw her rounding a corner on her way back to her apartment, the paper reported.

Asked about this account, he replied, “I confirm it.”

Asked to elaborate and answer more questions, he replied, again, “Talk to my lawyer.”

Lauren Spierer's college friends: 'Where are you?'
Sep 4, 2011
Written by Shawn Cohen

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Lauren Spierer's parents had already cleared out their daughter's personal belongings at Smallwood Plaza when the missing student's three apartment mates returned recently to pack up their own stuff.

That's when their pent-up emotions came gushing out.

"When we had to move out and saw her room so empty, we just sat on the floor crying," Hadar Tamir recalled yesterday. "It was completely surreal."

Since then, classes have resumed at Indiana University, and Spierer's roommates have moved into different apartments at Smallwood. The reality of life without Lauren has begun to sink in. While they hope for a miracle, they expect the 20-year-old from Edgemont is never coming back.

So the start of the new school year comes with a residual sense of despair.

"We went home for the summer and came back, and nothing has changed, really," said Tamir, a Long Island resident who was joined for the interview by fellow student Sara Gornish, another close friend of Spierer.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) - As the search for missing IU student Lauren Spierer nears the four-month mark, friends and family hope a free concert with the theme “Shine” set for next week will help keep the spotlight on her case.

The Spierer family will join IU students and the Bloomington community for a ceremonial walk at 6:20 p.m. Sept. 22 and then the free concert, Shine: Light Up Dunn Meadow for Lauren, at 7 p.m.

 ::snipping2::

Anyone planning to attend is encouraged to wear blue, in a show of solidarity for the continuing search, and to come prepared to participate in a ceremony by shining a light at the end of the concert, when a single lantern will be released into the sky. Attendees are also encouraged to tweet about the event with the hash tag #Shine4Lauren.

 ::snipping2::

The event will also be broadcast live via the Internet, organizers said. Find out more about the event, including the planned path for the walk before the concert, at the event’s Facebook page.

Supporters Walk, Ride for Missing Edgemont Native, Lauren Spierer
by Tanuja Kanwar 09/18/11

SCARSDALE, N.Y.  –  Lindsay Holas and other friends of missing Edgemont native Lauren Spierer returned home this weekend with the goal of helping to support fundraising efforts to continue the search for Spierer, who vanished in June.

 ::snipping2::

Under clear blue skies, the synagogue’s Rabbi Stephen Klein commended the group of adults, children and teens for their efforts and invoked the creation of a “better community of truth and honesty.”

 ::snipping2::

Klein’s comments about “truth and honesty” were references to recent statements made by Indiana police and Spierer’s parents for the lack of cooperation and information provided by Lauren’s friends at college, who, according to reports, were the last to see her.

“The Spierers are members of our congregation, our community, and this is a small step in the search for Lauren,” Klein said. “She remains in the minds and hearts of this community.”

Lauren’s parents, Rob and Charlene Spierer, remained in Bloomington, Ind., to prepare for a Sept. 22 concert and walk to bring additional focus to search and investigation efforts, Lauren’s cousin Karen Lerner said.

Theory of the case: Corey Rossman led Lauren to the townhouse. He passed her on to Jay Rosenbaum. She died due to drugs or rapes or both. They disposed of her body in the construction site across the street. No cars, no transport -- they just "walked" her across the street. Now the construction has proceeded and they know it is safe to come back to Bloomington. Very simple. No complications. No transport required.

See earlier photos taken at the time: construction site is plainly visible.

If they went outside and took her to the construction site, that would explain how Rosenbaum came to say that he saw her turning the corner onto College Avenue. He would have had to be outside of his townhouse in order to see that corner -- and in fact he was, at the construction site. His lie was a dumb lie. That corner is not visible from inside his townhome. They say he's not the brightest bulb.

A construction site would seem like a bright idea to two doped-up mopes.

Great thoughts ~ at this point sounds certainly possible and probable.  Makes sense to me.

Lauren Spierer concert Shine 4 Lauren to pack Dunn Meadow, planners say
By Danielle Paquette
September 19, 2011, last update: 9/19 @ 4:38 pm

“Shine 4 Lauren” is expected to attract more than 5,000 attendees to Dunn Meadow on Thursday night, event planners said.

The awareness concert, which was named to trend on Twitter, is designed to raise awareness and energize search efforts for missing Indiana University student Lauren Spierer.

“We want to keep it upbeat and positive,” said concert director Lisa Wagner, who worked with the Indiana Memorial Union Board to plan the evening. “There’s still so much we don’t know, but this will show that people aren’t giving up.”

Country musician Clayton Anderson, Chicago-based band Dot Dot Dot and “This is Indiana” singers Brice Fox and Daniel Webber are scheduled to perform. IU basketball coach Tom Crean and B 97 radio host Matt Thiel will serve as emcees.

Concertgoers are encouraged to wear blue, the search’s designated color, and download flashlight applications to smartphones. At the evening’s end, the crowd will be asked to tilt the phones’ glowing screens skyward in a ceremonial “shining moment.”

Event planning included input from Spierer’s parents, Robert and Charlene Spierer.
