Experts Weigh Polygraph In Spierer Case
Person Of Interest Provided Police With Private Test Results
POSTED: 4:56 pm EDT June 28, 2011
UPDATED: 7:55 pm EDT June 28, 2011

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The last person to admit seeing missing Indiana University student Lauren Spierer has submitted a polygraph test to authorities, but police aren't saying how much weight it will carry as they continue their investigation.

 ::snipping2::

Legal experts said it's not uncommon for defense attorneys to have their clients undergo polygraph tests, which detect deception by measuring changes in breathing, heart rate and sweat gland activity.

"The lawyer is probably going to have a private polygraph just to make sure that their client is telling the truth," said Tim Wilson, who owns International Investigators, an Indianapolis company that conducts 100 polygraph tests a year.

In some cases, lawyers will provide positive test results to police. Otherwise, that information can remain confidential.

"(If the person fails), then we never did it," Wilson said. "We're under attorney-client privilege, so we would never talk about it."

 ::snipping2::

Bloomington police would not comment Tuesday on any polygraph results provided by Rosenbaum's attorneys.

Rosenbaum is the neighbor of Corey Rossman, who was seen on surveillance video walking with Spierer to his apartment the morning she disappeared.

Police said previously that Rosenbaum, Rossman, Rossman's roommate, Mike Beth, and Spierer's boyfriend, Jesse Wolff, all provided investigators with DNA.

IU website with great interactive map; don't know if it was previously posted.

Thank you Graceland and TracyGirl for your responses.  She's such a tiny girl, reminds me of Annie Le case at Yale.  Wish there were more CCTV in this case.

I picked this up from one of the local forums. http://phantasytour.com/bands/1/topics/2744202/postsYou can search for arrest records. Lauren does have one but it is a misdemeanor charge involving drinking. I in no way want to tarnish her name by saying that. She is a college student and they do drink. Anyway, you can do a search by defendants name. Rossman has a drinking charge and marijuana charge. I haven't searched yet the other POI's.

^This is the site. Go to Monroe County. Click on 'criminal' link.

On first window, click on 'defendant' link. Put in name you are seeking

Sad to hear that the searches are scaled back.

Police Scale Back Searches for Missing Indiana Student but Continue to Pursue Leads
Published June 28, 2011

After weeks of unsuccessful searches for missing Indiana University student Lauren Spierer, the Bloomington Police Department announced Tuesday that it will no longer conduct general searches of large areas, instead limiting future searches to those based on new leads.

The shift will allow police to spend more time on investigative work in the case, Police Chief Michael Diekhoff said.

Since it seems people are protecting the truth in this case isn't it odd we hear about fights between the two sides yet there seems to be some kind of agreement to not say what happened? Since when do people not point fingers at one another, especially given the fact they didn't like one another? Could it be somehow Lauren was caught in the middle of something, some kind of fight that got out of hand between the 2 supposed sides? It is just one more strange thing going on in this case. What these kids need to realize is eventually the truth is always told. Someone will eventually say what happened and they will get the best deal while everyone else goes away for a long time.

Spierer Parents To Speak Friday
Robert, Charlene Spierer To Hold News Conference
POSTED: 3:26 pm EDT June 29, 2011

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The parents of missing Indiana University student Lauren Spierer plan to hold a news conference on Friday, nearly a month after she was last seen.

Robert and Charlene Spierer plan to make a statement "regarding the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of their daughter," Bloomington police Sgt. Joe Qualters said Wednesday.

 ::snipping2::

The news conference was set for 11 a.m. Police and the Spierers said they won't take questions at the news conference.

Earlier this week, Bloomington police announced that search efforts for the 20-year-old student were being scaled back so that more resources can be placed on the investigation.

Spierer’s boyfriend of two years:

From: Port Washington, N.Y.

IU senior studying management at SPEA.

Lives: 600 block of East Ninth Street.

Where is he now? Earlier in the investigation, his lawyer said he returned home.

Wolff reported Spierer missing at 4:27 p.m. Friday, June 3.

David Rohn, 20

knows Spierer through Smallwood.

From: New York, N.Y.

IU sophomore studying recreational sports management at HPER.

Where is he now? “Homeeeee,” according a June 16 post on his Facebook page. His attorney says he will return for school in late August. He is not preregistered for classes this fall, according to Susan Williams in IU communications.

He was part of the group that attended the 500 with Spierer.

Corey Rossman, 21

From: Sharon, Mass.

IU junior studying real estate finance at the Kelley School of Business.

Lives: 5 North Townhomes.

Where is he now? Home for the summer, and left Bloomington before finishing his summer class, according to Rossman’s attorney. He has not moved out of his apartment, his attorney said, and hopes to return.

He was part of the group that attended the 500 with Spierer.

Rossman is on the Smallwood Plaza “no trespass” list following an Oct. 31, 2010, incident at the complex. At 2:58 a.m., police found Rossman and Jay Rosenbaum attempting to enter Smallwood with a credit card. Police also report the two said they could enter the complex by force.

Rossman and Rosenbaum were arrested on charges of illegal consumption. Rossman was booked into jail at 4:03 a.m. and released on his own recognizance at 7:55 a.m. Rosenbaum was booked into the jail at 3:47 a.m. and released on his own recognizance at 12:08 p.m.

Rossman entered a pretrial diversion program and paid a $498 for the charge to be dismissed.

He entered a pretrial diversion program, which expires in April 2012, and paid a $428 fee.

In 2008, as a resident of Briscoe, Rossman was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of marijuana and maintaining a common nuisance. He was booked into the jail at 6:07 a.m. on Oct. 19, 2008, and released on a $2,000 surety, $500 cash bond five hours later. He entered a pretrial diversion program for one misdemeanor charge of possession of marijuana charge and paid a $403 fine for the charge to be dismissed.

Jason “Jay” Rosenbaum, 21

From: West Bloomfield, Mich.

IU junior studying management at SPEA.

He lives two doors down from Rossman and Beth at 5 North Townhomes.

Where is he now? The law office of his attorneys at Voyles, Zahn, Paul, Hogan & Merriman did not responded to this inquiry. His Facebook page says he lives in Barcelona, Spain.

Rosenbaum reported he last saw Spierer at the corner of 11th and College about 4:30 a.m. Friday, June 3, according to Chapman.

James Voyles and Jennifer Lukemeyer, Rosenbaum’s attorneys

Voyles, in Indianapolis, is known for representing high-profile athletes and sports figures, including former boxing champion Mike Tyson and former IU basketball coach Bob Knight.

Rosenbaum’s attorneys issued a statement on June 27, saying Rosenbaum has cooperated and continues to cooperate with police and passed a polygraph, which has also been provided to investigators.

Michael Beth, 20

IU senior studying telecommunications, business for telecommunications and marketing.

Lives: Rossman’s roommate at 5 North Townhomes.

Where is he now? His attorney says Beth left about a week ago. He is working in New York at an investment firm this summer.

He was part of the group that attended the 500 with Spierer.
Ron Chapman is also Beth’s attorney.

Beth has been interviewed by police and has provided DNA samples to authorities, Chapman said.

Chapman said that on the night of Spierer’s disappearance, she and Beth “visited for a while.” He described the two as friends. He said his client was not drinking or using illegal substances that evening and was home writing two papers for two classes.

Hadar Tamir, 19

I think Rosenbaum is the other guy in this picture on the right sandwiched between all the girls. I blew it up and compared it to the new picture with the orange "garrish" shirt and it looks more like the guy on the right. What do yall think?

I think that the guy to the right, in the picture, is Jay--the chin and nose appear to be the same in both pictures.

Detectives following leads in Spierer disappearance

BLOOMINGTON - Police returned to a townhouse complex in their search for a missing student Wednesday.

A Bloomington Herald Times photographer captured police and their K-9's on a search of the Five North Complex at 11th and Morton. That's a block from where Lauren Spierer was last seen about 4:30 in the morning June 3rd.

Some of her friends tell police she visited two friends in the building in those early morning hours before leaving on foot to return to her apartment a few blocks away. She was never seen again.

Two persons of interest reportedly live in that townhouse building.

Police won't say why they returned with the dogs Wednesday night or what they were looking for.

Missing IU student: Police search homes of Lauren Spierer’s friends

By Christy Mullins 331-4266 | cmullins@heraldt.com

Wednesday afternoon, where four people of interest in the ongoing Lauren Spierer investigation lived at the time she disappeared.

Bloomington police entered boyfriend Jesse Wolff’s house in the 600 block of East Ninth Street around 5 p.m., along with the shared apartment of acquaintances Corey Rossman and Mike Beth at their building on 11th and Morton streets.

It is unclear whether police entered Jason “Jay” Rosenbaum’s apartment two doors down. Rosenbaum has reported he was the last person to see Spierer in the early morning hours she went missing June 3.

Police at both addresses fielded all questions to Capt. Joe Qualters, who released a statement to all media Wednesday night:

“The activity observed today is an indication that this investigation remains active and ongoing, but we will continue with our policy of not discussing the details of the investigation including specific names or anything related to evidence obtained,” he wrote in an email.
