This is his FB page that he uses using an "alias", but it is the page of the perp.  He has a girlfriend that deleted her FB. I can not get the screen shot to work to capture his page.

People on FB (did a search of his last name on post by everyone) and found this:

"Schwander is the son of a Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Deputy"

I will look for a news link with this info since I can't link back to my search on FB.

His is a link to verify that the perp is the son of a sheriif deputy. So sad for both families.

Family members tell 7 & 4 News the suspect is Robert Jensen Schwander, 17, of Traverse City.   Schwander is the son of a Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Deputy.

He is scheduled to be in court to face the murder charges Thursday at 8:30 AM.

The Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office released this statement in regards to the tragedy:

Our condolences, thoughts and prayers are with the Lewis family.  This is especially difficult for the Sheriff’s Office because of the relationship of the suspect in this incident with one of our officers and, because of the business we are in.  The department as a whole is supportive in whatever way possible to the family of the officer, not unlike any other company or business would act in a similar situation.

The officer is currently on scheduled days off and administrative leave to provide him the time needed to be with his family.

Reporter Lauren Amstutz sat down with Carly's mom Wednesday to talk about the case and Carly's relationship with the suspect.   Susie Ooley-Lewis said the family is taking it day by day but is thankful for all of the community support during this tragic time.  Ooley-Lewis also commented on her feelings about the suspect in her daughter's murder, Robert Jensen Schwander.

"It's mixed emotions.  It was a boy I cared about and brought into my home and I feel for him.  I think he needed help and didn't get it," said Ooley'-Lewis.  "But I'm very angry it went down the way it did."

Accused Murderer, Robert Jensen Schwander Lived with Lewis Family


Robert Jensen Schwander is now facing murder charges, but up until a month ago, the Lewis family was his primary provider.

Lewis family friend, Debra Engler says prior to this stay, Schwander was without anywhere to go. She says the Lewis home where he would be for almost 2 months before the arrangement no longer worked out.

This is a really sad situation.  As a Mom and I could see me taking in one of my childs friends who seemed troubled and needed us but I guarantee ANGER would not be all I was feeling if he killed my child.  No doubt he took a liking to Carly in an unwanted way or he blamed her for some reason for not being able to have that family anymore/jealousy?

2:30 PM UPDATE: The opening statements have wrapped up in the trial of Robert Schwander.

The prosecution stated that Carly Lewis and Robert Schwander did not get along, and Robert stabbed Carly to death.

The defense alleges the two got into an arguement and Robert hit Carly, she hit her head and later died. The defense claims the alleged stab wounds discovered on Carly's body were from probes that the officials used while searching for her body in a sand pile.
