Since the Dutch feel Aruba is so independent....it would cost Aruba a whole lot less than 13 million to make a law requiring 30 days of jail time to anyone who picks up a tourist.  If the tourist signs a waiver, AFTER returning to their home, the local could be released.  If a tourist disappears, the local is jailed until the tourist reappears.

I am concerned that Arubans think Joran is innocent because they are told that there is not one shred of evidence against him--and not told that is because ALE refused to collect it.

I don't think for one minute that seeing him about and having a grand old time bothers them at all because of this.  I wish it did but just think they still trust their ALE and think this some unjust attack on their innocent island.  Going to be hard to change their opinion, too.  They want to think this is not their own fault.

I agree.  They are used to being told what to think and what to believe.  How many of those that are schooled in the states, return to the island??

A quick post before I go out to do yardwork... have been stallling all a.m.  

I believe that most islands offer a significant discount to locals for staying in hotels.  (Dad lived in Caribbean for years)  It helps when occupancy is not 100% and gives locals a nice getaway.  (so one can't say Joran is living like a king -- probably not an expensive stay)

Assuming this young blonde is NOT local, I find it hard to believe she'd be paying a tourist rate when the Sloots could get her and addtl. 50% off.  (approx.)   Course maybe another local name was used for the reservation.

This girl is familiar - very familiar to me.  I am 99.9% sure I have seen her photo on a Zorpia site or something.  I don't go to that many of them and I therefore think it was Joran's site and it would have been a LONG time ago as I haven't bothered for ages.  I think she is from the U.S.

I looked at J's Zorpia this am and didn't see her, but obviously she could have been removed.

I have long suspected Dennis Jacobs is wearing that belt for it seemed abnormally long, should just barely reach around him and he likely has trouble finding them that large.

Marriott urged to remove hotel room porn

Concerned Women for America wants Marriott International, the big hotel chain, to do with pornography what it just did with smoking.
     
Marriott this week announced that all its facilities would become smoke-free.
     
"Creating a smoke-free environment demonstrates a new level of service and care for our guests and associates," said J.W. Marriott Jr., chairman and chief executive officer of Marriott International. "Our family of brands is united on this important health issue and we anticipate very positive customer feedback. ... Demand for nonsmoking rooms continues to rise with new information from the Surgeon General on the hazards of secondary smoke."
     
CWA, an evangelical Christian group that describes itself as the nation's largest public policy women's organization, praised the move but suggested that this would be a good time to also ban porn from their facilities.
     
"We've been after Marriott for years to stop providing pay-per-view porn," said Jan LaRue, CWA's Chief Counsel. "But their excuse is that some customers want it. What's that percentage? If it's only about 5 percent, they've lost that excuse. I'm guessing that their cut from porn is a lot bigger than their cut from cigarette machines in the lobby.
     
"Marriott has placed itself in a perplexing box by banning smoker-friendly hotel rooms, even though 5 percent of customers want a smoking room. If it's about 'health,' why are they banning smoking only in hotels in the United States and Canada? What about former Surgeon General C. Everett Koop's report on the dangerous consequences of viewing pornography? What about the mental and psychological health consequences related to dependency on porn?
     
"With summer in full swing and many families looking for hotel accommodations during their vacation, we hope that Marriott will eliminate pornography as an amenity and lead the industry in creating a truly safe and wholesome environment.
     
"Not only would they reduce their potential legal liability related to a sexually hostile environment, I bet there would be a boost in sales as well," LaRue concluded.

I am sorry to post this here, but I only read at your site.  I am not registered.

I understand that in your island culture, you are used to using the media to dictate what the people should think and say.  I do not live on an island and I read lots of ideas good and bad.

Beth does not need to say a word.  The situation of Natalee's disappearance speaks for itself.  I would believe Aruba to be unsafe, even if Beth declared it to be heaven.  Please stop blaming her for your whoes.

I do not believe everything said by the Mass Media.  I did not change my feelings about Joran because Greta felt he was believable. As most Americans, I take everything in and draw my own conclusion.

 Please stop insulting me by stating that Beth and the media dictate my attitude.  This is no island.

Your attitude toward safety is an issue (not the promotion of beaches etc). For scubajap to declare it normal for Americans to stream toward your island to connect with locals, gives a pass to the predators.  My blond daughter met locals in Mexico and invited them to a nightclub.  They responded that they weren't allowed into that club (thank goodness). What have you done, since this tragety to provide safety for those who don't want to hook up...or may be too naive to understand "the island" culture.

Instead of trying to can the Marriott spokesman,  you should be praising him.  He is one of the few to demonstrate common sense.  Celeste was not looking to get rich or jealous, she probably was appauled by Joran at the Marriott.  I would have been.  He is no "normal" teen on vacation.  No matter what does or doesn't happen to him legally, he will never be normal.
