Ha ha - just now read back where Cookie also recommended the Two Men and A Truck!  I saw a billboard for them on my cross country trip a couple of days ago.  Not sure what state we were in but it caught my eye because of the fact I had used them a couple of times.

Speaking of my cross country trip - we drove for 30 hours in two days and made it to San Diego, getting in last night.  I packed the car with lots of good food so we only stopped for gas and one night's lodging in some God forsaken crossroads in Texas.

One thing I did observe, along the way, was a huge billboard on I20 in Colorado City, TX of Hailey Dunn.  It was very imposing (in a good way) and hard not to miss.  Made me so sad.  I was not familiar with the lay of the land out there...but with all the oil fields, barren land and desolation, I am sure that she could be somewhere no one would ever stumble on her.

I saw parts of the US, that were out of the Twilight Zone.  Gasoline stations that were stuck in time - it was kinda like going to Disneyworld at some stops - I wanted to take some pics but was scared to.  Thought the people might a been in the witness protection program - ha ha.  It was very enlightening...I mean no disrespect, but in the SE and the NE, the interstates are populated.  Not so in the SW.  We learned to get anxious about finding the next gas stop - even on I20.

We are resting today and will explore the area later...
Oh my, I20 & I10 is such a terrible drive thru-out the desert Southwest, I will never do that route from Texas to Calif. ever again!

If you ever have to go back to Calif., it is well worth the time to come up to I40 and our part of North Texas is much more accomadting than lower half.  Still a lot of desert thru NM & Az but in my opinion the beauty of Flagstaff is well worth it.  Plus it is 100 miles shorter for us going from Dallas.

WB cadillac!

My goodness, 30 hours of driving in 2 days! Sounds exhausting. Get some well-deserved rest.

Enjoyed your description of the trip though, reading it was almost like watching a movie preview. LOL

Glad you got back safe and sound!

CC,
This is NONE of my business, so feel free to ignore me.............
Have you checked into how moving to TX will impact your IL Unemployment Benefits?
or can you keep an IL mailing addy?
A good friend of mine got into a soup w/ a similar situation.
Best,
Tol

Already checked it out. The max I'd earn in Texas will be about $100 a month less than the max I get in IL.

Morning monkeys, hope everyone is doing well. Waiting for the pharmacy to open to get my meds for my stupid shoulder. I shouldn't have gone to the doctor, he hurt me, poking and prodding and giving injection. The one good thing about it he is such a sweetheart, I even lie to him when he is hurting me.

Do you lie to me when I'm hurting you?

Well JSM, So. Cal has a wacky freeway system also and I imagine someone new to L.A. could drive in circles getting nowhere real easy.  It is possibly more confusing than No. Texas and its beloved 35, but at least L.A. uses different numbers for their confuson.

Have a friend here a couple of months ago (his first driving trip to Ca.).  He said he was taking 10 straight out and that his daughter lived just a few miles off of 10 right at the beach.  He had been studing maps, did a map quest straight from here to her house and it made no sense at all once he got into Ca.  .....10 seemed to go every which way, and the only thing he found was that it did end at the beach!

By the time I finished trying to explain, I thought he was going to either strangle me or start crying......For one thing we oldies call them by their names not numbers and 10 changes into several different frwys when you get to So. Cal.  .......long story short, I got him off the 10 near L.A. and a direct route to his daughters.....He thanked me when he got home but did add he'd take all the 35's out here anyday!

Hey you guys! Wanna help on a little project? This Youtube is of my friend and her fiance. They're trying to win a Miracle Whip Wedding...so they made this awesome video. (I'll take credit for lending them a good camera). I'm only posting the link, as I think viewing it on Youtube makes the hits and their chances go up. I'd appreciate it greatly, as my friend is also one of my bosses...a very sweet person.

Running the dishwasher and self cleaning oven. This house husband in training for JSM will be a snap. Must rest now.

Good afternoon monkey's,

Hi Casuallycool Smile

I must be the only person on earth that thinks a dishwasher, is twice as much work, than washing dishes by hand.

Where is the shortcut?  It takes more steps loading and unloading..

I keep thinking it is so time comsuming...I am going back to hand washing dishes:)
I wash them before I put them in the dishwasher. Pretty silly to do it twice.

Paul watched me loading the dishwasher and mentioned I was doing it wrong. I asked him to show me how it was done correctly and he proceded to do just that. Because he knew the right way I never loaded it again...left it for the expert.
Oh you are slick 4 Donks, that is the way to do it.

oh Donks..has worked for me that way for years! and the vacuuming and the yada yada yada...all I have to do is get something out or start doing something around the house and he says, here Honey, let me do that for you..or I'll do it for ya Honey...
I act disappointed and sigh and just move on to my computer lol..works every time! has worked for over 21 years!

Does he have a single brother?

no..he is an only child..he has a single uncle but he is 82 yrs old and gay..closest male relative that he has..interesting story about my hubs..His mother was an only child ..his father had 2 brothers and they were both gay..So my hubs has not 1 cousin..! isn't that unusual? kindof a lonely childhood for hubs though..he would have liked to have a sibling..or a cousin..he kindof feels like he has no "roots" if you know what I mean..

I didn't know Calif had wacky highways like DFW. You poor friend, I would probably have cried too. At least you got him to his daughters house. I call the freeways by their names, but I still call 30 aka Tom Landry, the Turnpike, because that was what it was called when I was a kid. Mapquest is useless, CC looked up how to get from the airport to my apartments and it said to go to the south exit to 183, WTH??? I live on 114, 3 minutes from the north exit of the airport. I'm with your friend, I will take both and all 35's any day. At least they both come together before Hillsboro going south, then there is only one.  Monkey Devil!

How sad Cookie, that he has no cousins or siblings. There are times in life I wish I was an only child, but I really wouldn't trade my brothers and sisters for the world.
