Well JSM, So. Cal has a wacky freeway system also and I imagine someone new to L.A. could drive in circles getting nowhere real easy.  It is possibly more confusing than No. Texas and its beloved 35, but at least L.A. uses different numbers for their confuson.

Have a friend here a couple of months ago (his first driving trip to Ca.).  He said he was taking 10 straight out and that his daughter lived just a few miles off of 10 right at the beach.  He had been studing maps, did a map quest straight from here to her house and it made no sense at all once he got into Ca.  .....10 seemed to go every which way, and the only thing he found was that it did end at the beach!

By the time I finished trying to explain, I thought he was going to either strangle me or start crying......For one thing we oldies call them by their names not numbers and 10 changes into several different frwys when you get to So. Cal.  .......long story short, I got him off the 10 near L.A. and a direct route to his daughters.....He thanked me when he got home but did add he'd take all the 35's out here anyday!

I didn't know Calif had wacky highways like DFW. You poor friend, I would probably have cried too. At least you got him to his daughters house. I call the freeways by their names, but I still call 30 aka Tom Landry, the Turnpike, because that was what it was called when I was a kid. Mapquest is useless, CC looked up how to get from the airport to my apartments and it said to go to the south exit to 183, WTH??? I live on 114, 3 minutes from the north exit of the airport. I'm with your friend, I will take both and all 35's any day. At least they both come together before Hillsboro going south, then there is only one. 

When I drove (eons ago) to TX, I asked my hubby what the hey were all the "FM" roads? He told me "Fu!!ing Magic" and he was right! I liked the FM roads way better than the freeway...on the FM roads you can see all John Cougar Mellancamps "little pink houses".

Why in the world did you drive to Texas Tevye?? And drive on FM roads. They are pretty cool, depending on what part of Texas you live in. You can go to west Dallas and see pink, purple and lime green houses all up and down the street.

no..he is an only child..he has a single uncle but he is 82 yrs old and gay..closest male relative that he has..interesting story about my hubs..His mother was an only child ..his father had 2 brothers and they were both gay..So my hubs has not 1 cousin..! isn't that unusual? kindof a lonely childhood for hubs though..he would have liked to have a sibling..or a cousin..he kindof feels like he has no "roots" if you know what I mean..

How sad Cookie, that he has no cousins or siblings. There are times in life I wish I was an only child, but I really wouldn't trade my brothers and sisters for the world.

Gotta add my 2¢.

My mother was an only child, father had one sibling who had one child.

I have one brother, one sister.

So I had one mother, one father, one sister, one brother, one aunt, one uncle, one cousin. I had one child.

I know the feeling of a small family.

I must be the only person on earth that thinks a dishwasher, is twice as much work, than washing dishes by hand.

Where is the shortcut?  It takes more steps loading and unloading..

I keep thinking it is so time comsuming...I am going back to hand washing dishes:)

  I wash them before I put them in the dishwasher. Pretty silly to do it twice.

Paul watched me loading the dishwasher and mentioned I was doing it wrong. I asked him to show me how it was done correctly and he proceded to do just that. Because he knew the right way I never loaded it again...left it for the expert.

Oh you are slick 4 Donks, that is the way to do it.

oh Donks..has worked for me that way for years! and the vacuuming and the yada yada yada...all I have to do is get something out or start doing something around the house and he says, here Honey, let me do that for you..or I'll do it for ya Honey...
I act disappointed and sigh and just move on to my computer lol..works every time! has worked for over 21 years!

As to why I drove to TX, i was going to see my little sis and her 10 day old baby. Parts of the trip were dreadful, but the best parts were Aransass Pass (sp?), Padre Island (someday I swear I'm gonna go there, get rip roaring drunk, and sleep on the beach) and making a plane wait for me on the tarmac at Corpus Christie (I flew home).

A friend of my sister's was at the same resort last month as the Ants - He grabbed a couple of pics, she told him he should of sold them to TMZ!

  I grew up with Miracle Whip, we always called it mayonaise. I never knew there was a difference until I was about in High School. My grandmother used to make a "salad" it was a piece of lettuce topped by a pinapple ring, dollop of Miracle Whip, topped with Cheddar cheese.    That was way back in the day before you could buy shredded cheese so she had one of those crank hand meat grinders she shredded the cheese with.
