Earlier this month, Flores' family urged prosecutors to file their case, warning that van der Sloot could be released by December unless the case goes ahead. Under Peruvian law, if a suspect's trial doesn't begin within 18 months of his arrest, he is set free.

Investigators delivered their case file to prosecutors in June for a decision on charges.

No date has been set for trial.

Glad to see there's some movement in this case!  YES!!

And so many, including myself, believed that justice would ever happen to Joran in our lifetime.  I now have a little hope the something similar happens to Casey in the future (not wishing for a murder on ANYBODY) and justice is served for Caylee as well. Patience truly is a virtue!  One I am lacking!

Van der Sloot formally charged in murder case

CNN) -- Peruvian authorities have charged Joran van der Sloot with murder in the case of the death of a Peruvian woman.

Van der Sloot was arrested in June of last year, but was not formally charged until Thursday.

Prosecutors are asking for a 30-year prison sentence and a restitution of $73,000 to the family of Stephany Flores. They also charged van der Sloot with theft.

Charged alongside van der Sloot were three Peruvian drivers who allegedly helped him flee Peru into Chile. Prosecutors want five-year prison sentences for them and fines of about $1,800.

I have such hope for justice for Stephany and still pray for justice for Natalee.

Thanks to all of you for keeping the fires burning for Joran's victims. What a legacy he's given Aruba, now crazies like him travel there to commit murder - Anita must be so proud.

Very good news.  It appears that Joran picked the wrong country and the wrong woman to murder to murder there.  I think that he will definitely be found guilty and do the maximum sentence for Peru justice.  I think Mr Flores will see to that for both his daughter and Natalee.  I know this does not ease Beth's heart or mind..but hopefully it helps her feel some relief that he will be tried and then foound guilty of murder so he will continue his prison stay unable to harm anymore young women.

Could it be that negotiations are taking place behind the scenes that imply that Joran van der sloot will be extradicted from Peru to Aruba/Holland to served his sentence for the murder of Stephany Flores.

Aruba/Holland realizes that Joran will reveal all regarding the sons of the Aruban/Dutch elite who where involved ... had knowledge regarding the happenings encompassing the demise of Natalee Holloway and ...

First, Joran hasn't even gone to trial yet.  Is the extradition treaty in place?  When it was being discussed, my understanding was it was for Dutch citizens convicted of a crime like possession of or selling drugs and allowing them to finish out the time in the Netherlands.  I don't think it was intended to move a Dutchman that murdered a Peruvian girl to have an easier time in prison.  This case is much different than that of Natalee Holloway.  Peru isn't Aruba.  Joran murdered the daughter of a Peruvian citizen that has money and status.  I have a feeling Joran picked the wrong girl to murder and the wrong country this time.  JMHO
