When Joran van der Sloot runs out of funds ... for a price another Natalee Holloway  confession will be afforded.  Maybe this time it will be the truth and ... the Aruban house of cards will collapse..

Van der Sloot himself told Kelly in an e-mail he apparently sent from Peru a week after the meeting that he had lied.

"He indicated it was all a hoax, which is sort of his M.O. with everybody - get the money, then say it's a hoax and avoid criminal prosecution," Kelly said.

I thought John van den Heuval wasn't going to waste his time flying over for that first hearing?

Did someone convince him ($) to go over there and get this "poor pitiful me" story to bring more donations for the murderers cause.

Well boofreakinhoo...it's about time Joran's situation got "dire" or "awkward" or whatever they're saying it is.

He murdered another young innocent girl with her whole life in front of her.  Did he really expect to just walk away from another murder...in another country?

He has survived fifteen months in a prison that he shouldn't have survived a week in.

Wonder how many were digging deep in their pockets to keep him comfortable all this time?  Do other prisoners in Castro Castro put on the pounds the way Joran has?  I'd be surprised if that's true.  If it is, all the reports of what a hell hole Castro Castro is are lies!

Joran chose to do the crime(s); and should have known eventually he would have to REALLY do the time.

And I hope Ricardo Flores uses any means he has to make sure that Joran gets a reminder every day that he's NOT in Aruba anymore.

Natalee Holloway film to premiere at Dutch Film Festival
Published on : 19 September 2011 - 3:56pm

The film Me and Mr Jones on Natalee-Island will premiere on 22 September 2011 at the Netherlands Film Festival in Utrecht.

The film tells the story of Remi, an undercover journalist who tries to undercover the truth about the disappearance of Natalee Holloway. Helped by an escort girl, he breaks into a house owned by the chief suspect, Joran van der Sloot, exactly 5 years after the American teenager disappeared on the island of Aruba. Hanna Verboom and Robert de Hoog play the lead roles.

The name Joran is now a registered trademark, and the Van der Sloot family attempted to prevent the film being made and its’ subsequent release. After a legal battle and the scrapping of a number of scenes, the parties settled out-of-court and permission was given for the film to be released.

Joran situation ever penibeler
Column by John van de Heuvel

 ::snipping2::

Although public interest in the matter outside Peru is reduced, the criminal case because more and more interesting. Happening behind the scenes so strange. Unlike in the Netherlands have relatives in Peru or the legal ability to influence the judicial process. The influential family Stephany Flores grabbed that opportunity with both hands. In a fiery speech demanding the family lawyer that the charges against Van der Sloot is significantly increased. He believes that the accusation does not read "murder followed by theft," but "robbery followed by murder." Apparently a subtle difference, but for Joran determines the rest of his life.

The accusation that the Flores family wants to see, implied that Van der Sloot was planning to rob Stephany Flores. To escape possible, he would have killed her afterwards. On this charge, in Dutch law similar to the crime of "qualified homicide", is in Peru as in our country than a life sentence.

The three female judges heard the story of the lawyer and benevolently decided last Friday that the prosecution case against Van der Sloot indeed re-evaluate. The result is that the progress of the process is delayed for months. This makes the situation even Joran van der Sloot penibeler it already was. But where was his lawyer on this rather crucial first hearing? And why was Joran in the week before the trial suddenly transferred to another prison wing?

After the meeting I drove to the Castro Prison and spoke with Van der Sloot. He confirmed now sit between Peruvian prisoners. After his transfer he had to sleep one night in a corridor because of the overcrowded jail is no place for him. Although Van der Sloot did not want to say, financial problems seem to play tricks on him severely. Prisoners with money making in Peru's prisons were in charge. If Van der Sloot can afford no more protection, he runs great risks. Earlier, the father of Stephany Flores hinted that fellow prisoners he would set against Van der Sloot.

That Joran is little new lawyer for his effort, like a money issue. According to the former lawyer of Van der Sloot, Mr. Maximo Altez, his confrere not even the criminal file, and he did not dare to take on the powerful family Flores. Joran himself still thinks he has a few years comes from the cell, but it seems more likely that the prediction of the father of Stephany Flores convenience. Revenge is a dish that is served ice cold in Peru.

I don't believe, for a minute, that his donation line has run dry.  Perhaps he should spend less on drugs and food (munchies?).

Joran has ALWAYS been afraid to ask for money...pfffft...I'm sure John made the poor guy an offering....just to get in the door....and Paul Ruven will probably pay for the comments after Joran watches the DVD.

Three judges decided the prosecutor she relook at the charges.....where oh where have we heard about the three, perfect judges decisions, before?  Good enough for Aruba but not so good in Peru?

Thanks Buckeye, for the reminder about the DVD.  I wasn't thinking about that.  Yes, I'm sure Joran benefited from the visit in more ways than one.  Monetarily, and with the "feel sorry for Joran" article too.

It wasn't "strange" when the van der Sloot influence in Aruba (and probably Thailand too) teflon coated Joran and everyone else that participated in his crimes.

Joran probably knows exactly why his attorney wasn't at the hearing (if that's true since it hasn't been reported by anyone else that I've read), he probably fired him to create another delay hoping to get out until the trial...NOT GONNA HAPPEN!

Joran also probably knows exactly why he was moved in the prison...the money stopped flowing?

Financial problems playing "tricks" on Joran severely?   Monkey Devil!

Does van den Heuval really think that's going to make people feel sorry for Joran?  Knowing he robbed and murdered Stephany after begging everyone he knew for money?  After extorting $25,000 from Natalee's grieving family with more LIES!  After gambling away as much as $4.000 a day while he was in Lima!?  And after he's arrested for Stephany's brutal murder, trying to make himself sound like the victim?  She attacked me first...blah blah blah.  It was my first time at the International Poker Tournament in Lima...and I didn't even get to play!?

Maybe in the coming days Joran will find out from his new roommates, that the fun has only just begun.  Hopefully they've been waiting all this time to earn some extra money showing Joran what it really feels like to be on the other side of the coin of influence...IMO, he's long overdue!

"Reformulating charge Joran on time '

If the court restated the indictment is received, the date of the publication.

Stephany's family was aware that a challenge to to the prosecutor's case against Joran van der Sloot would in all probability delay the trial but the prosecutor's "mistakes" in regards to charges afforded them no other choice.

Then when it is considered that Joran's no-show attorney also challenged the prosecutor's case .....

The late filing of the charges by the prosecutor implied that it was a given if there was an appeal by Joran's attorney and/or the Flores' attorney ... the trial was not going to happen any time prior the established legal18 month deadline ... the 18 month dealine that implied Joran ... a flight risk ... would be set free to await his trial.

Was this the prosecutor's plan?  Has no-show Joran and attorney been given a heads-up.

Lawyer: Van der Sloot may admit simple homicide, fight graver charges
By the CNN Wire Staff
September 12, 2011 -- Updated 2343 GMT (0743 HKT

(CNN) -- Joran van der Sloot is willing to confess to a "simple homicide" charge in relation to the May 2010 death of a woman in Peru, but not to more serious charges that would carry longer prison terms, his lawyer said Monday.

Meanwhile, the victim's family asked a three-judge panel for a more stringent charge that could have the 24-year-old Dutch national's indictment sent back to the prosecutor's office -- a move that could prompt a delay in his trial, if the court assents -- the Lima, Peru, Superior Court said Monday.

Both the accused and the victim's family disagree with the indictment proposed by prosecutor Miriam Riveros Castellares. She is asking the panel to indict Van der Sloot on charges of qualified murder and simple robbery, which carry 28-year and 2-year sentences. He would also make a restitution payment of $73,000 to the victim's family.

Attorney Luis Jiminez Navarro and his client, Van der Sloot, did not attend the hearing due to what Navarro described as the massive media interest in the case. But the lawyer did submit his response to a proposed indictment in writing, asking for a simple homicide charge that could carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

He said, too, that his client would confess to this charge.

But the attorney for the family of the victim, Stephany Flores, told the three judges that the prosecutor's proposed indictment against Van der Sloot had "mistakes," a news release from the court said.

It did not specify what mistakes Edward Alvarez Yrala referred to in his arguments.

According to Navarro, Yrala asked the court to charge Van der Sloot with a charge akin to aggravated murder, which carries a maximum sentence of life in prison.

We are Worried

Woman's family wants speedy trial for van der Sloot
By the CNN Wire Staff
August 17, 2011 -- Updated 2200 GMT (0600 HKT

(CNN) -- The family of a slain Peruvian woman is urging prosecutors to file their case against murder suspect Joran van der Sloot, warning that he may be released by December unless the case goes ahead.

"We are worried because Peruvian law says that if a suspect's trial doesn't begin within 18 months after his arrest, authorities are obligated to set the suspect free," Ricardo Flores, the dead woman's father, told CNN.

Van der Sloot faces charges in the May 2010 killing of Stephany Flores, who was found dead in his Lima hotel room. Police say van der Sloot took money and bank cards from her wallet and fled to Chile, where he was arrested a few days later.

Investigators delivered their case file to prosecutors in June for a decision on charges. Ricardo Flores said the prosecutor in the case, Miriam Riveros Castellares, is "not moving with the speed that a case of this magnitude merits."

"We're asking that either the prosecutor file charges or that authorities remove her from this case and name somebody else," he said.

There was no immediate response to the family's concerns from the prosecutor's office.

When all is said and done the prosecutor did submit her case against Joran van der Sloot to the Peruvian court prior to the 18 month deadline but ... she did not allow time for a challenge.  In other words ... the prosecutor Miriam Riveros Castellares has legal  knowledge that an appeal of her case would imply that Joran ... a flight risk ... would be set free to escape justice and would be afforded the opportunity to prey on another "Stephany" ... another "Natalee".

Is the prosecutor in the Stephany Flores case corrupt or incompetent?  Will justice for Stephany prevail?

Negative Consequences

Peruvian judges to decide on trial date for Van der Sloot

Alvarez said there were also some discrepancies with the evidence presented in the case and the official charges of voluntary manslaughter.

"We have said there are inconsistencies in the prosecution's account and its accusations, between the evidence it uses and what it is asking for. These inconsistencies could bring about negative consequences at trial because it could result in a mistrial," Alvarez said.

Peru to beef up Joran van der Sloot charges

By December, Mr Van der Sloot will have been held on remand for the maximum 18 months allowed under Peruvian law. This could mean he will be released and await the remainder of his trial as a free person. The Public Prosecutor, however, can request an extension of his pre-trial detention.

A Flight Risk

Van der Sloot facing beefed up charges
Published: 9/18 8:52 am
Updated: 5:39 am

Birmingham, Ala (WIAT)  The judge in Joran van der Sloot's murder case in Peru has told the prosecutor to beef up the charges against the Dutchman.

Basically, that means the judge agrees with arguments by the family of victim Stephany Flores that the crime should carry a life sentence.

<snipped>

At a preliminary hearing Monday the prosecution asked for a charge of murder followed by robbery. That would mean a maximum sentence of 30 years.

The Flores family has argued for a charge of robbery followed by murder which would carry a maximum life sentence.

<snipped>

Any delay in the case poses a potential risk that van der Sloot could get out of jail.

By December, he will have been held on remand for the maximum 18 months allowed under Peruvian law. This could mean he will be released and await the remainder of his trial as a free person. Given van der Sloot's history of international flight, that's a risk.

There was a point when the Flores were not going to challenge the prosecutors charge against Joran van der Sloot ... the charge which would have implied a 30 year sentence.

What were the troubling aspects that the prosecutor's case reveals which went beyond this charge ... so troubling that the Flores had no choice but to risk a delay ... a delay which would compromise the 18 month deadline and ... allow Joran ... a flight risk ... to be set free?

Is the prosecutor on the side of justice for Stephany?

Van der Sloot victim's family caught in time dilemma

Birmingham, Ala (WIAT)  The family of murder victim Stephany Flores has another tough decision to make.

The Flores family wants prosecutors to seek a longer sentence against confessed killer Joran van der Sloot.  He's currently looking at a thirty year sentence if convicted of killing the 21 year old student.

They also want an end to the legal process that began when their daughter was found dead in van der Sloot's Lima, Peru hotel room in May 2010.

The family's lawyer tells The Associated Press that Stephany Flores' family won't object to the proposed sentence because it doesn't want the trial delayed.  Lawyer Edward Alvarez says that if the Flores family were to raise objections Monday the trial could be delayed until next year.

By December, Mr Van der Sloot will have been held on remand for the maximum 18 months allowed under Peruvian law. This could mean he will be released and await the remainder of his trial as a free person. The Public Prosecutor, however, can request an extension of his pre-trial detention.

Travelers warned about dengue fever in The Bahamas

By Laura Bly, USA TODAY Updated <1m ago

The federal Centers for Disease Control is warning U.S. travelers about an outbreak of dengue fever in the Bahamas, where officials suspect about 1,000 cases of the mosquito-borne virus since Aug. 9. An unspecified but higher-than-normal number of Americans have returned from the popular vacation spot with symptoms, which can include high fever, rash, muscle and joint pain and pain behind the eyes, the CDC says.

Last week's Bahamas notice coincides with another CDC update, noting that dengue is the most common cause of fever in travelers returning from the Caribbean, Central America, and South Central Asia. As of August 5, more than 890,000 cases have been reported to the Pan American Health Organization this year, including 10,840 cases of sometimes fatal dengue hemorrhagic fever and/or dengue shock syndrome. It is widespread in Puerto Rico, and several countries across the region are reporting high incidence rates in addition to the Bahamas, including Brazil, Paraguay, Bolivia, and Aruba. Cases have also been confirmed in Florida and Hawaii.
