OT.....Anna, thank you for the advice.   The fence is around most of our yard but mostly the back of the house, with a gate on either side of the house and one at the driveway toward the back.  It's a chain-link fence, and we have those clips to lock each gate.  Unfortunately, the electric, cable & phone wires are located within the fencing.  The dodo's took the clips off two gates and left one gate open.  Spring/summer project, signs.  MIL always had 'beware of dog' Since they came to the door & I was home, I made sure to check when they left.  

Was Anita maybe defending her property?

In dit boek onthult Joran van der Sloot (Arnhem, 1987) alles over zijn leven en zijn ontmoeting met Natalee. Hij vertelt onder meer over de drie maanden in de Arubaanse gevangenis, de politieverhoren, de impact van de Amerikaanse media en geeft zijn visie op haar verdwijning.

In this book Joran van der Sloot ( Arnhem, 1987, place of birth) tells anything about his life and his meeting with Natalee. He tells about the three months he spent in the Aruban prison, the interrogations, the impact of the American media, and gives his vision about her disappearance.

Zvezdana Vukojevic (Amsterdam, 1978) studeerde aan de School voor Journalistiek in Utrecht en aan de San Francisco State University. Ze werkte voor HP/De Tijd, Algemeen Dagblad en het bbc 1 tv-programma Panorama; nu werkt ze voor Nieuwe Revu.

Zvezdana Vukojevic ( Amsterdam, 1978) studied at the School for Journalistics in Utrecht and at the San Francisco State University. She worked among others for HP/De Tijd, Algemeen Dagblad, and the BBC program Panorama; now she works for Nieuwe Revu.

The only time that I can remember anything being said about Joran
suffering any physical injury was the black eye and scratches that
his classmates said he had right after Natalee went missing.

Way to go, Natalee.  In any other country, that would have been
enough to get anyone arrested...

From Joran's perspective, it IS someone else's fault.  Like Cho saying "you made me do this", there are brains running around out there that believe that.  A sociopath, as I understand it, sees everyone as being there for his comfort, convenience and pleasure.  If something goes wrong for him, it is their fault.  He was simply doing what he's on this earth to do, which is whatever serves his needs, purposes or desires.  Joran's Primetime interview, IMHO, shows this so clearly.  He seemed baffled by questions about whether or not everyone wanted to do the same thing he wanted to do, which is how he tells it.  She wanted me.  She wanted to go to my house.  2K had no problem doing whatever I wanted.  2k didn't mind driving me around.  Etc.  When asked why, he verbally stumbles.

VAN DER SLOOT: It wasn't, I mean, I mean they treated me really well there when I was there. I mean all the people there were great. Also, you know, the security guards and everyone was really, really supportive, really good but, I mean of course it's not fun to be in jail I mean.
You know you don't have your, you know, you don't have your freedom to walk, to do what you want to do.

I'll add that if a guard at Rikers tells an inmate to come with him and that inmate says "I'm not going anywhere until you release my father", I would not be surprised if things got physical.  Could be those guards are the only ones with the cajones to stand up to Joran van der Sociopath.
