Autopsy not completed in teen's death; DNA testing part of investigation
Quote
On Friday, Walton County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 21-year-old Steven Cozzie, of Seagrove Beach, and charged him with murder in Wilkes’ death.

Walton County Sheriff’s Office arrest reports indicate that Wilkes was killed with a blow from an unknown weapon. Cozzie took a friend to see the body and told him that he had killed Wilkes by hitting her on the head with a stick, according to the report.

The friend later reported the body to the Sheriff’s Office and led deputies to the scene, the report said.

Yep, that is a grin on his evil face.

GA girl, 15, violently murdered on vacation
Quote
The Walton County Sheriff says Wilkes' mother reported her missing at 4 p.m. on Thursday.

She was last seen going for a walk with 21-year-old Steven Cozzie, a resident of the area near Seagrove Beach.

By 5:30 p.m., the sheriff says her body was found, and by 6 p.m., deputies arrested Cozzie for the murder.

"I Could See This Coming", Cozzie's Close Friend Speaks Out
Quote
A Lyons, Georgia teenager, 15-year old Courtney Wilkes met a local man, 21-year old Steven Cozzie. She first went missing, then was found dead in this wooded area off Cypress Grove Lane. According to the incident report, Wilkes was violently beat to death with a stick.

"You don't do what this man did to a child and tell me that you have a soul..I'm not believing that" said Walton County Sheriff Mike Adkinson at Friday's press conference.

I know friends of this family.  Cozzie passed himself off as a teen around this family.  I can't help but think there was an element of premeditation in this.

Wow.....just wow. No wonder this kid is so screwed up. Check out his "mother", Melody Ellis, step father Jeff, sister Gwen. I cut and paste the following in case the site goes poof. This is in their "about" page. I was able to link the following family members from the perps "myspace page"
 ::snipping2::
The Team

Melody Ellis  - Lead Investigator/Occult Specialist

Melody Ellis has over 25 years experience in the field of paranormal investigations. She holds degrees in both Parapsychology and Astrology and is a First Degree Wiccan and Spirit Sensitive. Melody has had continuous occurences with the paranormal since the tender age of two, and continues to seek answers to ghostly hauntings and visitations for a better understanding of the unknown. She hopes that by forming this investigation team she can help others as she was helped by so many, deal with the trauma of visitations and help to cleanse the area(s) in question for a better quality of life. When she is not hunting ghosts, she is wife, mother, grandmother, published author and poet. Has a love for all life and helps children around the world. Melody Ellis is an honored member of the Cambridge Who's Who for Entrepreneurs, Executives and Professionals.

Dylan Ellis - Skeptic/Data Analysis

Dylan Ellis spent 21 years in the US Military serving his country. He is very much a skeptic, and a hard person to convince of anything paranormal. He uses scientific analysis to determine if any data collected can be substantiated. He reviews everything thoroughly, has a keen eye for detail and doesn't jump to any conclusions. He is a great asset to our team and he looks forward to every new case. Dylan is husband to Melody and stepfather to Gwen, Steven and Jeffery.

Gwen Schmidt - Case Manager/Interviewer

Gwen Schmidt handles each case with strict confidentiality only dispursing information to the investigators dealing with the case at hand. Having had experienced paranormal phenomena first hand, she understands what you are going through and will put your mind at ease. If you are in need of assistance, Gwen will only be too happy to make the neccessary arrangements and get all the details, whether by phone, email or in person. Whichever option makes YOU comfortable.

Steven Cozzie - Investigator/Photographer

Steven Cozzie holds a strong passion for paranormal investigation and proving or disproving alledged hauntings. He's had several personal experiences with the paranormal and hopes he can help others deal with the unknown. He chose to be an investigator and a photographer in this field to attempt to capture spirit energy and prove the existence of ghosts. Steven is currently a beach attendant in the tourist community of Seagrove Beach, FL., and resides with his mother and stepfather.

Jeffery Pedersen - Investigator/Tech Specialist

Jeffery Pedersen has been dealing with the paranormal all his life and is dedicated to finding answers to many of the unanswered questions that deal with all things paranormal. He has a level head and logical perception of things and goes into each case with an open mind. He doesn't scare easy which makes Jeffery a wonderful investigator. He never walks into an investigation thinking a location is haunted. He takes time in gathering data and goes over the evidence thoroughly.

Mary Alice Harmon - Investigator/Interviewer

Mary Alice Harmon is the newest addition to the ECPRI Team. She joined us to learn more about paranormal phenomenon as she has a vast interest in all things paranormal. She has shown she is open minded, a quick learner, has excellent people skills and is dedicated to finding evidence and assisting others.

To Honor the memory of beautiful Courtney Wilkes please place a white bow on your home and place of business by Wednesday, when she will be brought back home.   Please spread the word and continue to pray for her sweet family and hug your babies tight.  If you have a marquee the words "love bears all things" is being put on others...
This is an email that I received this morning.  Nothing like this happens in this area.  The things I've heard he did just chill me to the bone.  He is a predator.

Thanks for bringing this over Kitty. We vacation on the Gulf Coast several times a year and Santa Rosa is one of the prettiest places. I have boys and always insist that they are escorted to and from the condo/beach/pool by an adult. I know it will come to a point where I won't be able to do this anymore...My hubby thinks I am crazy, but stories like this is exactly why I am so scared. We just can not let our guard down anywhere. That is just so sad but there are so many sickos like this kid out there. This guy seems like a serial killer in the making. I also read somewhere that he is not a local. He moved there with his family from Indiana I believe. This is the third case I read about in the last month where one kid killed another. I just don't get it.

I can not imagine what these parents are going through......They probably vacationed in the area many times and something like this never entered their minds. I pray they find peace and know that none of this was their fault.

RIP sweet Courtney and know that you were loved by so many. an angelic monkey

Cloaked In White
A Tribute to Courtney Wilkes

Quote
Today, the first day of summer, a group is meeting at the Pal Theatre, downtown Vidalia, to distribute white bows and balloons, as well as signs -- to blanket the community in white... a symbol of purity... for pure love, fervent prayer, and support. I, a few hundred miles southwest of my hometown, am doing the same.

Somehow this outpouring of love will help heal the family -- strengthening them. I am asking you to do the same -- put a white bow or balloon on your storefront, door, mailbox in honor of life and to show your support. Not knowing someone does not make our hearts immune to the sorrow of Courtney's death. Supporting her loved ones will, I believe, strengthen community and help bear this unimaginable burden.

There is a little info on the afternoon that Courtney disappeared.

So very sad!  This is 30 mins. from my front door and I can remember only ONE broadcast of this information.  Just the day it happened and in general.  Don't wanna spook the money spending tourist now do we?  Nevermind their safety, right?  Please, it's is beautiful here and everyone wants that special summer to tell about forever but our area is rural and riddled with crime, drugs,(meth labs, pill mill fallout) and just the wackadoodles who have been born and raised here!  Just like anywhere else. Just be careful anywhere you go.  Be too careful!

Funeral service under way for slain Toombs Co. teen

Several deputies from the sheriff's office in Walton County, Fla., are also at the funeral service.

The Sheriff seems really upset by this crime.  It was touching to see him choke up at the news conference.

Cozzie indicted for murder, sexual battery

Quote
A Walton County grand jury has indicted Steven Cozzie on four felony charges, including premeditated murder.

The 22-year-old Seagrove Beach man has been charged with first-degree, premeditated murder, aggravated child abuse, armed kidnapping and sexual battery, according to a news release from the state attorney’s office.

State Attorney Bill Eddins said the sexual battery charges “stem from activities that occurred at or around the time of the murder” of Wilkes.

The next possible step for prosecutors would be to meet to discuss whether to seek the death penalty for Cozzie.
