I just have to throw this out there - can any of you believe the sheer arrogance of some of these miserable people we have been reading about???

Does it even occur to them how they look in the eyes of the normal people out there, it really makes you wonder.

Not that I am attempting at putting this guy in the 'people' category, because IMO he certainly is not.  I used to have a T-shirt that said, "The more people I meet - the more I like my dog."  That also fits for people that you read about or see on the news.  Sometimes for me, that is completely beyond truth.

By the Way....Love the new Monkey Board!!!

Back to the story at hand.  As far as Lisa's brother being willing to work with the ex and his lawyer, and still nothing from them - - - speaks VOLUMES people.  OK he says he doesn't want the children involved - well, even if that means helping the authorities find their mother.  He doesn't want the truth to come out.

speaking of the children .... I cant remember how old they are at the moment, but I wonder if Lisa's family has been able to talk to them with out the "dad" around.  Doubtful, but still, it would be nice if some one could talk to them, if they do know something, I bet they are terrified of him.

I am digging the new board also ..... Very Happy

Report: Police not able to interview missing Plainfield woman's children

September 7, 2007 - It appears Plainfield police will not be allowed to interview the children of a missing Plainfield mother.

The Herald News reported Friday morning that Lisa Stebic's husband, Craig, is being advised by his lawyer to decline police requests for interviews.

The two children and Craig Stebic were questioned by police right after Lisa Stebic was reported missing, but they have not been interviewed since then.

Stebic vanished without a trace back in April.

Earlier this summer, Plainfield police called Stebic a person of interest in the case.

Somehow it doesn't seem right the children can't be interviewed.  It's too bad that it couldn't be worked out so there would be social workers or child specialists present to be certain the children in no way would be harmed by the questions or conversation.  For example, using a two way mirror and having someone talk with the children while they play etc.  I would never want children to be grilled of course.  The laws must be in place to protect the children from being abused, or perhaps there is worry young children could be led to make statements or have scenarios suggested to them.  I'm not familiar with the law in this case.  Just using common sense...

There’s a $65,000 reward for information that would help find Lisa Stebic. The 37-year-old mother of two vanished from her Plainfield home April 30, leaving behind two children.

There have been no developments in the investigation since July, when Stebic’s estranged husband Craig was named a person of interest.

I still think this is interesting, even though it's being said Scott Stebic's arrest isn't linked to Craig Stebic or Lisa Stebic's disappearance...

Arrest at missing mom's house
PLAINFIELD | Brother-in-law's arrest not linked to Lisa Stebic: cops

September 21, 2007
BY JANET LUNDQUIST AND JOE HOSEY Herald News
Plainfield police were at Craig Stebic's doorstep Wednesday morning, but they weren't there to talk about his missing wife, Lisa.

They were there to arrest his brother. Scott Stebic, 44, was arrested on four warrants from Lake County and Highland Park.

Three warrants were from Lake County for failure to appear in court on a charge of driving under the influence and for possession of a firearm without a valid owner's identification card. One warrant, from Highland Park, was for trespass to a vehicle.

The Highland Park warrant stemmed from an August 2006 incident in which Scott Stebic allegedly slipped into a tow truck and snatched the keys, said police Cmdr. Dave Schwarz.

Craig Stebic told a reporter Thursday evening he had only learned of his brother's arrest moments before. He confirmed his brother had moved in and was living in his house.

"He was, but not anymore," Craig Stebic said.

Police arrested Scott Stebic with help from the FBI. His bond was set at $120,000.

Lisa Stebic's family speculated Scott had been watching her children, ages 11 and 12, before and after school while Craig was at work.

Prosecutors plan to meet with Plainfield investigators to review the evidence in Lisa Stebic's missing person case. Police say they will determine the next step in their investigation based on that meeting.

In July, police named Craig Stebic a "person of interest" in his wife's disappearance. Stebic has not been charged in connection with the case.

Stebic's Brother Arrested
Current Police May Be Taken Off Case

POSTED: 11:12 pm CDT September 20, 2007
UPDATED: 7:38 am CDT September 21, 2007
Several developments in the case of Lisa Stebic came to fruition on Thursday, including a key arrest and possible reassignment in the affair.

Stebic disappeared earlier this year from her home in Plainfield.

Police said they have arrested the brother of her estranged husband at the Stebic's house. Police said 44-year-old Scott Stebic had outstanding warrants related to DUI and an expired gun license.

Police said they made the arrest after learning he was staying with his brother Craig, who remains a person of interest in his wife's disappearance.

Also on Thursday, the Herald News reported that two police officers who were very involved in the Stebic case may be off the case. The two officers are reportedly Deputy Chief Mark Eiting, who was the department's media spokesman in the Stebic case, and patrol commander Mike Altenhoff.

The newspaper said the two men were escorted from police headquarters.

The Plainfield police chief said he could not comment on personnel matters.

Experts weigh in on affect events may have on case

eving said Lisa Stebic's parents could ask the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services to intervene if they believe their grandchildren are being raised in "an unsafe environment." DCFS officials could then "take the children and place them with the grandparents," he said.

The fact that Scott Stebic was allowed to live with him and the children "may not be indicative of good judgement" on Craig Stebic's part, Leving said."The only defense I can think of for the biological father (Craig Stebic) would be if he was not aware of his brother's problems," Leving said. "But how could he not be?"

Brent agreed Craig Stebic's "level of awareness" of his brother's troubles would be crucial in any attempt to separate him from his children.

"But I would expect the status quo to win out," Brent said. "These kids have already been through so much disruption in their lives. The courts would have to think long and hard before shaking their lives up again" by taking them from their father and awarding custody to another family member, he said.

Wife's kin: Stebic cut family ties
By Jo Napolitano | Tribune staff reporter
October 30, 2007

Lisa Stebic's estranged husband, described by police as a person of interest in her disappearance six months ago, has cut off all communication between his children and his wife's sisters, family members said Monday.

The family has long feared Craig Stebic would sever those relationships, said Melanie Greenberg, Lisa Stebic's cousin. He had barred her parents from the couple's Plainfield home and had not allowed his wife or their children, ages 11 and 12, to speak to them for the last two years, she said.

When they attended parties for extended family members, the children were not permitted to speak to their grandparents, who often were standing in the same room, Greenberg said. She could not explain why.

Lisa Stebic's sisters, Debbie Ruttenberg and Jamie Bouma, last saw the children alone about five weeks ago, after a fundraiser in Joliet. The women told the children how much their mother loved them and how she would never intentionally leave them. Greenberg said the children tried to change the subject.

"After that, Craig turned off the ringer to his phone and wasn't accepting messages," Greenberg said. "The sisters do not have the children's cell phone numbers. There is no way for us to contact them directly."

On Thursday, the Stebics' daughter called Bouma, who told the girl about a prayer vigil planned for Tuesday to mark the six-month point since her mother's disappearance on April 30. Bouma also spoke with Craig Stebic, inviting him to attend the event, just a few yards from the home he shared with his wife on Red Star Drive.

Greenberg said Stebic gave reasons why he could not attend the vigil.

"On Saturday, he spoke to Jamie's husband, saying he didn't want them around the kids," she said. "He didn't want them to try and call them or visit them."

Greenberg said Stebic told his wife's family that the children were upset by fliers hung throughout the neighborhood, and the billboards in Illinois and near their father's cabin in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, alerting passersby to Lisa Stebic's disappearance.

Lisa Stebic was getting a divorce when she vanished. Her husband was the last person to see her. He has denied any involvement in her disappearance. He could not be reached for comment Monday and has routinely denied media requests for interviews.

His attorney, Dion Davi, said he did not know anything about Stebic shutting out his wife's family.

Plainfield Police Chief Donald Bennett said his department is working with the state's attorney's office, pressing to set up an interview with the children by calling them in front of a grand jury. Craig Stebic has not allowed authorities to speak with the children since early in the investigation.

Bennett said Stebic's decision to cut off his children from his wife's sisters is in keeping with what he's learned of him so far.

"He's been uncooperative since day one, and I'm not surprised that he has alienated himself from the rest of the family," Bennett said.

STEBIC CHILDREN TESTIFY BEFORE GRAND JURY
Craig Stebic Not Allowed In Grand Jury Room

POSTED: 10:09 pm CST November 7, 2007
UPDATED: 10:45 pm CST November 7, 2007

CHICAGO -- Sources said Wednesday the children of a missing Plainfield woman spoke to a grand jury. NBC5's Anna Davlantes reported that authorities have wanted to talk with the children of Lisa Stebic for months, but their father, Craig, had refused to allow the children to speak to anyone about the case. Lisa Stebic disappeared six months ago

Sources said Stebic and his children came to the Will County Courthouse, where a grand jury had been seated. It was the first time the Stebic children have spoken to anyone investigating the case.

Craig Stebic has been named a "person of interest in the case," and has refused to let his children talk to authorities.

WILL COUNTY Missing woman's kids testify before grand jury
Tribune staff report
November 8, 2007

The family of a missing Plainfield woman said her children testified before a grand jury Wednesday afternoon, though they did not know what the interviews revealed.

Mark Greenberg, Lisa Stebic's cousin, said the Will County state's attorney's office notified his family weeks ago that they would be calling upon the children—age 11 and 12—to testify about their mother's disappearance.

Lisa Stebic was 37 when she disappeared from her family's Plainfield home on April 30. Her husband Craig Stebic has been named a person of interest. He has repeatedly denied any involvement.

Hopefully Lisa's family will get some answers, finally!

Hunters asked to search for Stebic in Michigan November 13, 2007
BY DAN ROZEK Staff Reporter/drozek@suntimes.com
The search for Lisa Stebic is shifting this week to Upper Michigan, where family members plan Wednesday to give deer hunters hand warmers emblazoned with the missing Plainfield woman's picture.

Tied to Thursday's opening of the deer-hunting season in the Upper Peninsula, the handwarmer handout will remind hunters to keep an eye out for signs of the 37-year-old mother of two, who vanished from her west suburban home April 30, relatives said Monday.

Stebic's family has a cabin in Iron County, Mich. -- the same area where the hand warmers will be given out at a hunters' breakfast that typically draws several hundred deer hunters. Some Stebic family members plan to attend the breakfast in Crystal Falls, Mich., to give out the hand warmers, which also contain the number of a telephone tipline and information about the $73,000 reward for information that helps find Stebic.

"It's part of an effort to ask all hunters -- all across the region -- to keep an eye out for Lisa," said Melanie Greenberg, Stebic's cousin.
