The group of detectives and forensic specialists who have been meeting with the British police returned to Portugal a few hours ago. No official statements have been released as to what was discussed between them.

Don't know how accurate this report is from a few hours ago, here's the link.

Police May Reinterview Madeleine Parents
Updated:16:21, Saturday December 01, 2007

Portuguese police may make a formal request to reinterview the parents of missing Madeleine McCann.

Gerry and Kate McCannDetectives are reported to be preparing an application to a British court to reinterview Kate and Gerry McCann and their friends.

However, it is thought Portuguese police would need the permission of Home Secretary Jacqui Smith.

The McCanns' spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, said: "Kate and Gerry and their friends have consistently said they are more than happy to be reinterviewed if Portuguese police feel it is necessary.

"Indeed their friends are keen to be reinterviewed, if that helps to clarify any inconsistencies the police feel may exist in their original statements, and if it leads to Kate and Gerry being eliminated from the inquiry.

"Their friends, like Kate and Gerry, have absolutely nothing to hide."

The McCanns were dining with friends when Madeleine went missing shortly before her fourth birthday in the resort of Praia da Luz in the Algarve on May 3.

Four members of the Portuguese investigation team flew home from the UK yesterday after a meeting with British forensic experts to discuss DNA samples collected for the inquiry.

The tests are said to have been carried out on blood samples, bodily fluids and hair found in the McCanns' holiday apartment and the vehicle they hired 25 days after the child disappeared.

Both Leicestershire Police, who are helping their Portuguese counterparts, and the Birmingham-based Forensic Science Service have described the meeting as "routine".

Kate McCann DID scream 'They've taken her' claims new nanny witness
By DAN NEWLING
Last updated at 16:41pm on
25th September 2007

The first eyewitness account of the frantic moments after Madeleine McCann disappeared can be revealed today.

Nanny Charlotte Pennington confirms that Kate McCann did scream: "They've taken her, they've taken her!"

<snipped>

Speaking publicly for the first time yesterday, she described Mrs McCann in the aftermath as "a broken woman" who was shuddering and unable to move.

"We are trained to comfort people in this type of situation but she was just inconsolable," she said.

Miss Pennington is considered a vital witness by Portuguese detectives with whom she spent more than four-and-a-half hours giving a statement.

She also claims British expat Robert Murat, the first suspect in the case, was in the area of the Ocean Club complex that night. He has repeatedly denied that he was there.

Talking from her mother's home in Leatherhead, Surrey, yesterday she told the Daily Mail: "I was in the apartment less than five minutes after they found that Madeleine had gone.

"When we were coming out we saw Kate and she was screaming: 'They've taken her, they've taken her!'

"I was standing right in front of her outside the apartment's back door, in the alleyway. I was very close to her. It might not have been the first thing she said. But she definitely said it.

"I was one of three Mark Warner staff who saw her shouting it. They have all given statements to the Portuguese police saying that."

The "they've taken her" version of events was first given in the Portuguese press two days after Madeleine disappeared on May 3.

Tamikosmom - Yes a new witness. I don't believe many things anymore in this case and it is a really trouble case. Police rapports with many suspects: Mommy, Daddy, Robert Murat, Robert Murat his girlfriend and more suspects.
I had read the article in De Telegraaf, there is stay there is a second towel found. The second towel is found in a barn. Probably is the first towel, where they also have spoken about, found by De Telegraaf news reports in the area, where the Dutch tip person was talking about. I have more write about this case in my blogspot.... see the link in my signature.

The heart-breaking new picture of Madeleine released by the McCanns as part of their Christmas appeal

British paedophile 'with links to Portugal' suspected of abducting Madeleine
By VANESSA ALLEN - More by this author »

Last updated at 19:16pm on 23rd December 2007

A British paedophile with links to Portugal has been revealed as a potential suspect in the Madeleine McCann investigation.

Detectives want to question the man in connection with the girl's disappearance almost eight months ago, when he is believed to have been in the Algarve.

His identity has been known to police since May, when his name was on a list given to Portuguese police by their British counterparts, but officers are understood to have failed to trace him.

Police have investigated 52 British sex offenders with known links to the Algarve, but this man is the only one who remains a potential suspect, according to a Sky News documentary to be broadcast on Monday.

A source told Sky: "They (Portuguese police) were given the names of 52 sex offenders and they've worked very hard to find them and rule them out as suspects. There is still one man they are concerned about."

It is not known if the man - whose name has not been revealed - is the same individual alleged to have 'groomed' and sexually assaulted a 12-year-old British girl in Praia da Luz two years ago.

The British expat, 32, vanished after being interviewed by police over the claim and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

He was rumoured to have fled to Britain to escape a lengthy jail sentence in Portugal, but could have returned without detection to Praia da Luz, where his parents own a business.

Dozens of paedophiles on the British sex offenders' register travelled to Portugal in the month before Madeleine's disappearance from Praia da Luz on May 3.

The list given to Portuguese police was compiled by officers from the London-based Child Exploitation and Online Protection centre, who travelled to the resort.

It included convicted paedophiles from the sex offenders' register, but also others who appear on an intelligence database of suspects but who have never been charged with any offence.

The private detective agency hired by the McCanns, Metodo 3, believe Madeleine was stolen to order by a paedophile network after she was 'spotted' as a target during her family holiday.

They have also been trying to trace Portuguese sex offenders believed to have been in the Algarve at the time but their task has been made more difficult because Portugal has no central register of convicted offenders.

Former detective Mike Hames, who helped to set up Scotland Yard's paedophilia unit, said: "It's always been my view that Madeleine was the victim of a paedophile who took her and probably killed her soon afterwards.

"And it would be someone who has offended before, someone who is somewhere in the police system for previous sex crimes."

Madeleine was only three at the time of her disappearance and Professor David Barclay, one of Britain's leading forensics experts, told the documentary it would be 'really, really unusual' for a child of that age to be targeted by paedophiles.

He said: "Abduction for sexual purposes is eight, nine, ten-year-olds. There are no people in Praia da Luz who have that sort of history.

"I know people who have got that, they have been looked at, but the Portuguese police didn't check up on the other people staying in the apartments.

"I can imagine that if you were a paedophile, one of the things you might do is actually go on holidays at that time of the year where you have got small kids playing in a swimming pool and stuff like that."

Mr and Mrs McCann, both 39, and British expat Robert Murat, 34, remain the only named suspects, or arguidos, in the case. All three have denied any involvement.

The McCanns have been offered help by lawyers for Sean Hoey, who was cleared last week of charges of murdering the 29 people killed in the 1998 Omagh bombing.

He was cleared by a judge who criticised the forensics technique which provided evidence against him, Low Copy Number DNA, which has also been used by scientists examining the McCann case.

His lawyers challenged the technique, which magnifies minute traces of body matter, and offered their expertise to the McCanns' legal team.

A friend of the couple said: "The offer came many months ago, and we listened politely, but it was never followed up."

He added: "It is absolutely ridiculous to form a case against someone using evidence that is fundamentally flawed."

The Crown Prosecution Service has ordered a re-examination of cases currently going through the courts which rely on the technique and the Association of Chief Police Officers also temporarily suspended its use of the method, which has been used 21,000 times since its launch in 1999.

Police Portugal is search for a blue tennis bag. De Portugese Investigators searching to the blue tennis bag what is away/disappeared also.

Tas Maddie's vader gezocht

Volunteers search Morocco for missing British child

27/12/2007

The campaign to find missing British child Madeleine McCann has continued in Morocco, with hundreds of volunteers posting photos of the 4-year old at schools, stores and hospitals throughout the country, the Mirror reported on Wednesday (December 26th).

Letters in both French and Arabic are also being sent to remote villages. The case has generated worldwide attention since the little girl disappeared while on vacation in Portugal with her family in May.

Portuguese investigators have named the parents as suspects in a cover-up of the child's accidental death. The Mirror reports that private investigators hired by her family believe she was abducted by a "paedophile ring and smuggled by sea to North Africa."

Several alleged sightings of the child have been reported in Morocco. All have been disproved thus far.

Madeleine suspect ruled out
Friday, 28 Dec 2007 12:19
http://www.inthenews.co.uk/news/autocodes/countries/portugal/madeleine-suspect-ruled-out-$1182810.htm

Police investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann have ruled out the last of 52 British sex offenders linked with the case.

According to reports, Portuguese detectives have now tracked down all those with links to the Algarve, from where the four-year-old vanished in May.

The Daily Express cites a source within the Policia Judiciaria as saying all the paedophiles who were in Portugal at the time of the disappearance "have now been acquitted".

No-one has been charged over the British child's disappearance, although both her parents, Gerry and Kate McCann, and a British man, Robert Murat, have all been named as suspects.

The McCanns were declared as 'arguidos' during the summer and had been hoping to find out the reasons for their being named next week.

Portuguese law requires that details of a police investigation are made public nine months after it began – meaning that January 3rd next year would have seen more information released.

But according to Portuguese reports, it is now expected that an extension to that deadline will be granted to police.

Earlier this week the McCanns broadcast a Christmas appeal from their home in Rothley, Leicestershire, which included images of Madeleine opening her Christmas presents last year.

According to Mr McCann, the appeal led to almost 350 people ringing the special number and providing new information to the private detective agency hired by the couple.

Madeleine has not been seen since disappearing from the Mark Warner holiday complex in Praia da Luz, Portugal, on May 3rd, while her parents were eating with friends in a tapas bar. End of story

Two Sisters Place Madeleine McCann Suspect at Kidnapping Scene
Sunday, December 30, 2007

 www.foxnews.com

Two British sisters vacationing in Portugal at the time of Madeleine McCann's disappearance claim to have seen Robert Murat, a main suspect in the case, outside the McCann's resort apartment shortly after the girl's mother reported her missing, London's Daily Mail reported Sunday.

Including the sisters' account, eight witnesses have now placed Murat at the scene of the kidnapping, further contradicting Murat's alibi that he was home with his mother at the time.

Click here to read the full report in the London Daily Mail.

The sisters, Annie Wiltshire and Jayne Jensen, did not come forward with their story to local authorities while in Portugal, but contacted British police after returning home from their vacation, the Daily Mail reported. They have now contacted the private detective agency the McCanns have hired to find Madeleine.

Murat, 34, has denied any involvement in the case.

The New York Post

January 9, 2008 Wednesday

MADDIE FOLKS EYE MISS-&-TELL MOVIE DEAL

That's what the British parents of missing 4-year-old Madeleine McCann are considering, according to a spokesman for the couple whose little girl disappeared eight months ago on their family vacation.

Spokesman Clarence Mitchell said he and another family representative met recently with agents from a major entertainment firm to discuss the possibility of turning the story of Madeleine - who vanished from her family's vacation apartment in Portugal in May - into either a film or a TV drama.

Mitchell said Gerry and Kate McCann did not sit in on the meeting with the IMG agency, and that a film would be considered only if the McCanns believed it would help raise awareness of the case or if it could help fund the search for the missing girl.

"We have only had one very tentative discussion with IMG," Mitchell told The Times of London.

"It may or may not happen," he said. "If we feel any particular proposal in the media has validity in helping us find Madeleine, we are happy to discuss it."

In addition to fielding movie offers, the McCanns' representatives have been busy fending off charges that the McCanns themselves may be behind their daughter's disappearance.

In September, Portuguese police named the parents suspects, but didn't charge or arrest them.

Missing girl linked to Maddie?

Article from: The Daily Telegraph.....January 16, 2008 12:30pm

PRIVATE detectives are investigating the disappearance of five-year-old girl in Portugal, trying to establish if there are links to missing Madeleine McCann.
Investigators hired to find British girl Maddie are looking into the recent disappearance of a young Spanish girl.

Mari Luz Cortez, five, vanished from Huelva, on the Spanish border on Sunday.

It is about 200km away from the Portuguese resort of Praia da Luz, where Madeleine disappeared on May 3 last year.

According to reports, Mari Luz Cortez was last seen on Sunday afternoon going to buy a packet of crisps from a local shop. Her family, who raised the alarm after searching for her themselves when she failed to return, are said to fear she has been abducted.

Officers have been scouring the area for the girl, and Portuguese police have also been carrying out searches on their side of the border.

The McCanns' spokesman Clarence Mitchell said there were "comparisons" that could be made, but stressed it was too early to say if the two cases were linked.

He said detective agency Metodo 3 were looking into the Spanish youngster's disappearance as a priority.

He said: "Our investigators, Metodo 3 are working very closely with the Spanish police in the first instance, and with the family to establish whether there are any links or similarities."

He said Kate and Gerry McCann were aware of the case and their thoughts were with the youngster's family.

"Kate and Gerry are aware of her disappearance," he said.

"They are highly concerned to hear that another young girl has gone missing in the region. Their thoughts and prayers are with the Cortez family."

He added: "They of all people on the planet can imagine the sort of agony the family are going through."

The McCanns themselves travelled to Huelva in August last year to raise awareness in the region about their daughter's disappearance.

There has been no evidence yet Madeleine McCann was abducted.  The report I read about the other child's abduction stated the location would be 120 miles from where Madeleine McCann disappeared.

Thank-you Tibro for the article on the missing Mari Luz Cortez. I had not heard about this. One hundred-twenty miles in certainly near enough to where Madeleine McCann went missing to raise the question of possible connection. Something for authorities to check into
for sure, IMO.
