Thank-you Klaas, I am glad to know DL  is on the case, and that she still reads here.

BB & Ms Vada-

Dutchlady and I have continued to be in touch, she has moved on to work on other cases. Her group went to investigate and to chart the events of the evening during which Madeline disappeared. Their review raised a few questions to include the chance that she might have wandered out of the apartment as well? I think that is at this juncture just one of two theories, the other being kidnapping. Even if she did wander out it also would ultimately have become a kidnapping, but I am glad many eyes are involved in the review. If she has further updates I will share.

I read that too.  They said something about doing it for ransom.  Does that mean because they never speculated either way, that she could be alive still?

The Italian man was arrested on an international warrant issued from France, where he was wanted for alleged association with a crime group, the police statement said.

He had served an 18-month sentence in France for child mistreatment, specifically his daughter, it said. A Spanish police spokeswoman said the warrant itself had nothing to do with the McCann case.

The Portuguese woman was detained due to her association with the Italian man, and there was no warrant for her arrest, the spokeswoman said.

I'm not sure they were actually involved in taking Madeleine, I think perhaps they were offering information for reward money - I'm not sure that "information" was valid, just greedy people taking advantage of the situation, BUT the 18 month sentence he served for child "mistreatment" is disturbing, so...I guess we wait and see what this is all about.

Here is an article I found regarding the status of the two that were arrested... seems like, as y'all said, they just were trying to scam money.

[list]Day 74 - 16/07/2007

The campaign to find Madeleine received a a massive boost today from JK Rowling. The author of the massive selling Harry Potter books has asked all retailers to display a specially designed poster of Madeleine when the sixth and final book Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows goes on sale on Saturday 21st July. Ms Rowling, who lived in Portugal for several years, has offered amazing support in the search for Madeleine. As well as offering a large reward for Madeleines safe return she has also added information on Madeleines abduction on her own site with a link back to our homepage. Try and find the iinformation at www.jkrowling.com, I will give you a clue that it is under links! A huge thank you to JK Rowling and her publishers Bloomsbury for their support.

The new poster of Madeleine has been designed in conjunction with the International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (ICMEC) and this is one of the things we have been working on in the last couple of weeks. ICMEC promote awareness of missing children globally and aim to prevent child sexual exploitation and abduction. The poster features 3 pictures of Madeleine with the advice to contact the local police if you see her. ICMEC, their logo and both theirs and our websites are also on the poster. The distribution of this poster will enhance the awareness of Madeleines disappearance, which we are advised increases the chances of finding her, and the plight of other missing children.

With the announcement of the poster Kate and I also did a short interview for the press. A lot of photographs were taken of us with the poster so I suspect some of these will make it in to the newspapers in the next few days.

Day 73 - 15/07/2007

Travelled back to Portugal today on an early morning flight. It was heartening to see various posters of Madeleine up at all the check-in desks especially with the busy holiday season underway. The flight itself was quiet for Kate and I as the twins fell asleep shortly after take-off. My mum and sister have also come out to for a few days so we managed to see a lot of family this weekend. Suspect Quiz Delay After New Evidence
Updated: 13:35, Thursday July 19, 2007

Police may delay further questioning of the main suspect in the hunt for Madeleine McCann after new evidence emerged.

Murat to be quizzed againOfficers were due to call in expat Robert Murat, 33, to police headquarters in Portimao this week.

But police sources told Sky News Online they may now have to push this back following new information from locals, who were quizzed by officers ealier this week.

Police are now compiling the new information before they re-interview Mr Murat, who lives near the apartment where Madeleine vanished in Praia da Luz on May 3.

"In view of the outcome of the secondary interviews, there may not be time to do it this week. It may now be next week," a police source said.

Portuguese newspaper reports say some of the witnesses interviewed this week spotted a man matching Mr Murat's description outside the flat where Madeleine disappeared.

Madeleine vanished on May 3It follows claims from McCann family friends who say they saw the suspect near the apartment shortly after the four-year-old was taken.

The three friends - Fiona Payne, Russell O'Brien and Rachael Oldfield - were allowed to grill the British expatriate in a five-hour session at a police station.

Some of the neighbours had been interviewed in the first week of her disappearance, and were being requestioned by officers.

Others had not been around at the time, and were giving evidence for the first time.

Mr Murat - who is considered an "arguido", the Portuguese police term for a suspect - claims he had a quiet night on May 3 and had not left his mother's house.

A police source said: "We will interview him as many times as necessary."

Police insiders have said the investigation is at a "critical" stage but have not elaborated on what that means

Sound familiar Wink

Now I have to ask what's this about.....

Now a report from Anorak notes that he used his ex-wife address to rent the car.  Police reportedly has Murat under surveillance at the time.  The rental contract has now been placed online.  It is hand written.  One report says that the car was driven "quite a lot" but it is unknown exactly how many miles Murat put on the car or if he was the one driving it.

The report notes that the renting contract only has the number of miles the car had registered when it was taken by Robert Murat. The Auto Rent III agency at Praia da Luz doesn't have a computer system and documents are handwritten.

....first of all, what are they too lazy to calculate out the mileage???  If five other people rented it after him, I am sure they too had to record what the mileage was when the car was rented.  Confused  Maybe I am missing something.  I understand they don't have a computer and such.  But don't all these rental companies work the same way even if they are writing it out???  And just the fact that this guy used his ex-wife's address to rent it, none of it sounds good!!!

Police Probe New Madeleine Sighting
Updated: 12:13, Friday August 03, 2007

Police in Belgium are investigating a possible sighting of Madeleine McCann and have released an identikit drawing of a man she may have been seen with.
Man was seen in restaurant with girl looking like MadeleineA woman told detectives she saw an English-speaking woman with a Dutch man and young girl at a restaurant in the Belgian town of Tongeren, near Maastricht.
The witness, a children's therapist, telephoned police but when she returned to her table the three had disappeared.
A Tongeren police spokesman said they were treating the sighting "very seriously".
They have taken a soft drink bottle the girl had been drinking from for analysis.
Results of the tests are expected next week, when scientists will see if there is enough DNA to create a "profile" before going on to see if there is a match to Madeleine.
A spokesman said: "The woman told us the little girl bore a striking resemblance to Madeleine McCann and was behaving nervously.
"She said she got up to call us as soon as she saw the girl, but when she returned to her table all three of them got into a car and left.
"She was 100% sure it was Madeleine and is a trusted witness. She works with children and noticed something unusual, that is why we are taking it seriously."
It is the second reported sighting of Madeleine in Belgium since the four-year-old was snatched from her hotel room in the Portuguese resort of Praia da Luz three months ago.
A Belgian couple told police they saw the youngster outside the Cathedral in Liege on June 1.

But what about Robert Murat that has change this alibi about the evening that Madeleine was disappeared?
Very stupid, when you change your alibi, when you police is still not sure, if this is correct.
Change your alibi, makes you, mostly suspect number one!
And what about Robert Murat, that there was found children porn on this computer.
Two sentence ingots facts committed and the Portugese police, does not nothing again them. This case, makes to things interesting, is the Portugese police involved or is the law from Portugal, that they not can arrested Robert Murat, on this two sentence ingots facts.

It would be wonderful if Madeleine is still alive. I am hoping this sighting was actually of the right child, and that the DNA is hers.

That would be great if it turns out that the DNA from the bottle matches Maddy's.I can't help wondering....in cases like this, why does it take a whole week or more for DNA testing?Seems time is crucial and by the time the DNA testing comes back...these people will be long gone especially IF it is Maddy....and now this news is spread everywhere on the news.I do hope the police are at least looking for this car while waiting for the test results.

Police Search Suspect's Home
Updated: 14:51, Saturday August 04, 2007

The home of Robert Murat - the only named suspect in the Madeleine McCann inquiry - is being searched again.

Madeleine disappeared on May 3Two British police officers are at the scene in Portugal - where undergrowth is being cleared and trees cut down - along with around eight from the local force.

It is thought the operation could last four days.

The development comes just after a woman in Belgium insisted she saw the missing four-year-old in a cafe with a couple who were acting strangely.

She said the child was with an English-speaking woman and a Dutch man in the Flemish town of Tongeren.

Murat denies any involvementPolice are carrying out forensic tests on a drinks bottle used by the girl.

Murat, a 33-year-old Brit who has been twice questioned by police and maintains his innocence, shares the house in Praia da Luz with his mum.

He is not currently at the house.

The residence is near the holiday apartment from which Madeleine vanished and had previously been searched by officers, with a number of items removed.

Murat - who has not been arrested - insists he was at home on May 3, the night Madeleine disappeared, and his mother backs his alibi.

He is considered an "arguido" - the Portuguese police term for a suspect.
