I don't know about in England, but in my experience doctors rarely come in contact with a dead person. If there is a code in ICU the physician is present then maybe....but usually do not make contact. In the ER things are a little more hands on, and there physicians wear scrubs and/or lab coats. When a patient dies in a hospital on a general medical surgical floor physicians are almost never there.

What type of specialty did the McCanns have in medicine?

I believe Gerry is a cardiologist and Kate is a general practitioner. I can't imagine a GP having a lot of contact with corpses, either.

history of a difficult union

I'm sorry, what does that mean? who had a history of a difficult union, the McCanns? I'm confused what this is getting at.

And they have already interviewed everyone who rented that car since the child disappeared?  they are now re-interviewing?

the dogs smelled the death scent near the church, but the McCanns hire knew this in July- more confused here - Didn't anyone check the grounds for a burial then? in July...

could this wonder dog being smelling corpses at the Church because that is where they have FUNERALS?
Hello???? anyone home?!?!?!?!?!?! Very Happy

Rob ~ I think the thing here is that the dogs picked up the death scent in the McCann's apt., and followed it over to the church.  That would make it different then the dogs just picking up a death scent at the church itself, I would think.  iirc there is an article about this.

I think the article said there was the death scent on Kate McCann's shirt and jeans, and perhaps a pair of sandals.  I had seen another article that said there was the death scent in the car and on a key fob.  Sorry, I don't have link this second...  Just trying to recall from my reading.

9.30 Mr Oldfield goes to the McCann's apartment; he doesn't raise any suspicions at the time but later says that he noticed there was more light in the apartment.  (my thought, had he been in the apartment before to realize a lighting difference?)

10.00 Kate McCann goes to the apartment and discovers that her daughter has gone.

She returns to the restaurant and raises the alarm

(which means she went the football field distance again, leaving 2 other children in an apartment where she has just found one child missing from …my comment)

Anna, I love the way you think.

Another observation: why in the world would Dr. O'Brien leave his sick daughter who was vomiting alone in a room while he went to dinner? It's irresponsible to leave well children alone while they're sleeping, but leaving a sick child is just cruel.

Yes, returning to the restaurant is VERY odd behavior.  I think I would call from the room and not leave the other two just as you say.

A vomiting child could easily aspirate the vomit and choke to death.  Must be another one of those cultural things.   Rolling Eyes

I have heard the detail that she left the room without her children to return to the tapas restaurant to tell everyone. I'd be getting the hotel staff involved, maybe sending one of them over to the restaurant to retrieve everyone if I thought there'd be a language barrier with the staff at the restaurant if I called on the phone. Who knows what I'd do--but I can tell you right now I wouldn't leave the room with the twins still in it! I don't know many people who would.

Very good question.

Can you imagine the level of panic you would feel if this happened to you? I think I'd just start yelling for anyone who heard to come help me (and I'm not sure I'd want to touch the phone in the room)--that would seem logical to me.

Running back to the tapas restaurant to make the announcement that she's been snatched doesn't seem logical.

I'm sure they did because IIRC some of the images they released of Madeleine were recorded on the phone.
