NH House Majority Leader Wants "Caylee's Law"
July 12, 2011

New Hampshire House Majority Leader DJ Bettencourt has announced he’s going to request permission for the late drafting of "Caylee’s Law."

The deadline for submitting a bill in the House was in June, but the legislation could still be drafted with an okay from the House Rules Committee.

The bill makes it a felony for any parent who fails to report a child missing within a few days.

Still, Bettencourt,  a Salem Republican, wants to make sure it will be ready for the beginning of the 2012 session, instead of waiting until January to begin drafting the bill.

New Hampshire Lawmakers To File Caylee Bill
July 13, 2011

 ::snipping2::
State Sen. David Boutin, a Hooksett Republican, is working on a version of what is being called Caylee's Law in honor of the dead Florida toddler whose mother did not report her missing for a month.

House Majority Leader D.J. Bettencourt, a Salem Republican, also intends to ask the House Rules Committee to allow him to introduce a bill after the deadline. Bettencourt said his bill probably would give parents 48 to 72 hours to report the child missing before they face criminal charges.

NH bills inspired by death of Caylee Anthony
January 29, 2012

The House Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee holds a hearing on its bill Tuesday and the Senate Judiciary Committee will hear from the public Thursday.

Both bills make it a misdemeanor to fail to report the disappearance of a child under 12 who has been missing for 24 hours. It also would be a misdemeanor to fail to report the death of a child under 12 within six hours.
