Question:
How long does it take to lose the weight one has gained from steroids? I had a lot of them after each surgery to reduce any swelling. However, I cannot get this weight off that I gained. I jumped a LOT of poundage immediately and now it doesn't want to leave although I am exercising and watching my diet very carefully. I have never weighed this much in my entire life  

have you tried the robots wolf eating schedule ???its not really a diet

Art, when I was in surgical tech training, I was doing my rotation in eye.
We always knew our cases for the following day so we could learn our surgeon preferences cards. I saw my next day case was to be an eye extraction on a 4 year old.I went to my instructor and asked if I could be removed from this case because I was afraid I would not be able to handle it. She said NO that it was one of those things I would have to experience more than once during my carreer.

I survived it. The eye surgeon told me it was a child falling on a stick. She said she had more than once stopped and talked to Mothers about allowing children to run and play with sticks. Of course I certainly made sure neither of mine ever did that after I heard that.

YOu know, Sam, it is a hard, full time job being a good mom. But worth every minute of it! So many things can injure them...we literally grow eyes on the backs of our heads I think! lol

My middle daughter is living with her dad most of the time because of having to commute to college.  They are in a small town and she works at the hospital as an ER tech a couple of nights a week.  She has several friends who are EMTs, volunteer firemen, policemen.  She has often told me about their dedication.  I think in small towns when you have these people who are volunteers and do it because they love it not as money makers they are really good and johnny on the spot.  Not to take away from the ones who work in larger towns because I know they are dedicated also. It just seems if you do something purely out of love for what you do you seem to be extremely good at it.  Am I making sense?

IT makes perfect sense to me. Smaller towns do have their advantages.

Here is a nasty thing that happened to me when I was a toddler. True story.. and my mom has it in my baby book.. it was put in the front page of the local paper back then.. of course my mother felt like a bad mom at the time..  BUT it was to make others aware of how fast things can happen.  

 I dont recall my exact age.. long story short.. my mom was getitng ready to bake a cake.. had several different cake pans on the kitchen table.. and a wooden ruler to measure them. Anyhow. being the stinker that I was.. I took the ruler off the table.. and ran.. she came after me.. I fell.. and it went DOWN my throat..<not the whole thing..part of it> She had no clue.. picked me up.. felt sometihng wet on her shoulder.. and looked.. and she was covered in blood.    Took me to the ER.. I was ok.. but I do have a scar in my throat.  Actually when my voice started its crap a few years ago.. I even asked the dr about my episode as a toddler.. if it could have had any effect on me now? He said no.
  Anyhow this was printed in the front page of the paper.. Freak Accident sends toddler to the hospital. Thsi was back in the 60's.  My mom cut that article out.. has it in my babybook til this day.. and says how embarassing it was for her.  It wasnt meant to make her look like a bad mom at all.. just a warning about hiw even rulers can be dangerous.

I agree Casa, the volunteers are wonderful everywhere. Just like those who are able to volunteer with Tes or any search and rescue Department.

We are learning alot about Robots dietary intake. Now Robots "wolf eating schedule "?.........hehheehhehe I would imagine this is his eat every 3 days?, we know he has an aversion to eating in restaurants, to many germs.......tonight we learned he likes to eat fiddleheads.  One question robots, Are you related to the late Howard Hughes?

Art, the thing is you need to talk to your doctor.  Increased swelling if that is what it is, is not a good thing and you really need to have a good diet to prevent that or to prevent over-diuresis.  It is important to discuss this with your professionals.  I don't mean to lecture.  I just care enough about you to say that is what I would do and I care enough about you to give you the same advice. If my swelling increased after mine, I got the crazies.  I could hear helicopters and bees, and I was hallucinating and I knew it intellectually but I could not stop it.  The steroids were crossing the blood-brain barrier and in some ways that is what they want, but they don't want you to have the edema to the point it affects your brain.

Art,  I have never lost all mine.

Tyler, I put on 25 pounds in the hospital and I am so discouraged. I am chubby for the first time in my life.  My yarn shoppe lady is an emergency room nurse and she told me that steroids change your metabolism. Every time I ask the doctor about it, they don't really answer me..just say, "don't worry about it". Jeesh.
I mean, I am happy to be alive and all, but I really do NOT want to be this heavy.
I would like to think it will come off at SOME point. How long has it been since you had steroids?

It is so simple to do something like this.  You see kids running about with pencils in their mouths and holding scissors.  Gives me the horrors and I didn't even have any children.
When I was a kid one of my playmates lost an eye.  He was playing with his brother and they were throwing toys to each other across the room.  You can imagine the rest of the story.
