From Amigoe.com 05/22/2007. This has a Willemstad (Curaçao) dateline but includes Antilles and Aruba.
http://www.amigoe.com/english/
Quote
Security service is watching Chavez
WILLEMSTAD – From the 2006 annual report of the Dutch military service, it appears that the Military Intelligence- and Security Service (MIVD) are strongly watching the neighbours of the Antilles and Aruba. They are especially watching the foreign and military policy of president Hugo Chavez that according to MIVD forms a ‘source of tension in the Caribbean’.
“Attention is intensified since Chavez came into power. Considering the possible emanation effects of the developments in Venezuela towards countries in the region, the MIVD will continue to intensively follow the developments in Venezuela in 2007.” The strengthening of the Latin-American- and Caribbean integration is the highest foreign political priority for Chavez, indicated NIVD. “Venezuela will try to further increase his influence in the region and push back the American influence in the region. This also applies to the Dutch Antilles and Aruba. The course might have influence on the Dutch- and American position over there.”
ERODE
Besides, with the constant far-reaching centralization of the power under the direct control of the president, Chavez will continue eroding the democracy. “In his new period of government, he wants to intensify his political and economic reform and accomplish a socialistic state. The parliament that is being dominated by his party, has given Chavez special mandates for a period of year-and-a-half, states the annual report.
Due to the location of Aruba, Curacao, and Bonaire right off the Venezuelan coast and the Dutch military’s responsibility for the defence and foreign relations of these kingdom parts, as laid down in the Charter for the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the MIVD is closely following the political, economical, and military developments in Venezuela. Regarding Colombia, the biggest producer and exporter of cocaine, MIVD’s attention results from the responsibility of the Kingdom for the defence of the Neth.Antilles and Aruba and the part they play in international relations with counter drug operations in the Caribbean.
“In Colombia, the political scene is being dominated by the fight between the government, the guerilla movements, the paramilitary groups, and criminal gangs, whereby drug-interests play a big part for all the parties. Even though the demobilization and the disarming of the paramilitary organizations were completed in 2006, the re-integration of demobilized ex-paramilitaries forms an important challenge for the government and for the time being, the paramilitaries remain an important political and economical factor. Despite the constant guerilla activities, the safety situation in Colombia has improved due to the increased effort f the security troops. But the guerilla- and drug activities have moved to the border region with the neighboring countries. This can have consequences for the surrounding countries, including the Neth.Antilles and Aruba.
SURINAM
Surinam continues to play an important part in the Dutch policy. This is because of the historic relations and the huge Surinam population in the Netherlands. MIVD focuses on the domestic safety situation in Surinam. The government that took office in 2005 is doing a very good job in the field of safety, criminality control, and the tackling of organized criminality in Surinam. The transit trade of drugs from South-America via Surinam to Europe remains worrisome for the MIVD.
Also in today's Amigoe.com:

Tierra del Sol expands towards Arashi
Guests of the new Tierra del Sol beach hotel will probably also use the idyllic beach of Arashi.
ORANJESTAD -- Tierra del Sol is going to build another hotel complex, Punto Arashi, on 21 acres of her own property; near the old flight of stairs to the lighthouse, across of restaurant El Faro Blanco.
Punto Arashi is going to be a beach hotel. ON 25 acres behind the hotel complex, the project developers will build two new branded neighbourhoods, Campo Bello and Paseo Bello. A spokes person of Tierra del Sol said that the plans are of the design table. According to reports, the resort will also ask permission to use part of the Arashi beach for her guests.
Rumours are going around for quite some time already that about the government granting concessions to hotels for beach grounds from Fisherman’s Huts all the way to Westpunt. Rudy Lampe of RED is trying to get inspection of the list of hotels that are negotiating pieces of land with the government. Some may have already received permission, like for Boca Grandi and Baby Beach . We are talking here about the last beaches of Aruba that are not taken by private developers and where the local people frequently go to. The media published earlier that three parties are competing in the tender of a hotel near Fisherman’s Hut; an investment group from Venezuela , Global Destinations on behalf of the Hilton group, and two local proprietors René Kan and Milton Berlinski on behalf of the Fairmont Hotel group.

Morning, Art. We put out some roses that I had rooted from cuttings. We gave the plastic pots to Derry who has been enjoying them for 2-3 hours now. Nothing she loves better than plastic pots. No toys, nothing. She even abandons chasing birds and bees for pushing pots around. How noisy is that on the porch and patio!

Regarding gas prices, there are a lot of people suffering right now because of it. Some folks here are not able to commute to work and are having to quit their good jobs and find lesser jobs closer to home and go on food stamps.
Sad but true, especially for young families with children.
I have been planning for this ever since the first Gulf War! I could see the writing on the wall and have managed to set myself up to not be tooooo dependent. But this is also effecting the prices of food and other goods since the retailers must figure these costs into their final price.
Time to get out the goat cart and buy a goat!

Klaas,
the 3rd pix down, the deep zoom-in, looks like that blue tarp w/ body photoed(?sp) on a cliff face in aruba. Possibly around Easter 2006.
Anyone remember that photo? Was that a photo rom BB?

Photo was from Hotshot iirc.
And yes - I agree.
Or it resembles the water basin 'plastic'.
I think something of importance was captured -- and thanks to Klaas, the original before the trolls photoshop it was preserved

Actually the photo was NOT from Hotshot. The photo was taken by accident by a tourist who just happened to see the tarp when they returned from Aruba. The tourist was actually focusing on a crab in the photo. The tourist posted the information on the Topix.net forums and many including Hotshot, Medeleyrelay and others asked the tourist for a copy of the photo.

I use plain old "Potting Soil" unless it is something difficult like clematis which I put into water with a bubbler (aquarium type) and when I see roots, I put it in coir. Just about anything will root in coir.

Thanks klaas!
All I could remember was that the first time I saw it was when Hotshot posted it
But now I remember the the story about the tourist -- taking a picture of a crab on the rocks

Art, one 325-mg aspirin dissolved well in 5 gallons of water. Water new starts with this, keep them moist but not wet. Do not allow to dry completely between watering. Not too much sunlight but not dark shade. Filtered sunlight. Sometimes i put my cuttings that I am going to root under a big rose which shades it but allows just enough sunlight in.
