A Los Angeles judge sentenced Spector on Friday to 15 years to life for second-degree murder and four years for personal use of a gun. The judge is also ordering restitution payments.

Jailed music producer Phil Spector is not coping well with life behind bars, a source close to the shamed star has revealed.

Spector was sentenced to 19 years in prison in May after being found guilty of murdering actress Lana Clarkson in 2003.

Hal Lifson, the producer's publicist, told BBC 6 Music News that Spector has found himself in a "horrible situation" with little to fill his time.

He contrasted the star's previous creative life, which saw him pioneer the Wall of Sound production effect, with his drab convict existence that revolves around a "five ft by nine ft cell with no windows".

In comments which may not encourage the sympathy of the general public, Lifson told the broadcaster: "It's a terrible existence for a millionaire record producer who lived in mansions and most recently in a castle, a 35-room home."

He also revealed that Spector has been left shaken by a request for a musical collaboration - with cult leader and convicted murderer Charles Manson.

This month, the Los Angeles Police Department revealed that Spector's ex-wife Annette Merar has been reported missing.

What a beautiful song co-written by Phil Spector. Sad

"Spanish Harlem" was written by Jerry Leiber and Phil Spector and was first recorded by Ben E. King in 1961. The song was a huge hit for King singing solo for the first time away from The Drifters. The Mamas & Papas gave the song a folksy spin in 1966.
