Suddenly Aruba's paradise has started to look tarnished. Race has also reared its head. Much has been made of the delays in arresting any suspects -- including the van der Sloots -- while the two security guards, who were both black, were picked up swiftly. It has also cast a spotlight on the island's nightlife, rife with copious booze and fuelled by illicit drugs. Dealers lurk outside some bars, whispering to passers-by to see if they want to score. Rumours claim that among the clientele of Carlos'n Charlie's are those overfond of the use of "date rape" drugs in spiked drinks.

For the Aruban authorities it has been a public relations disaster.

Same song (now), second or third verse, tourism ain't gonna get no better, it's gonna get worse.  Let the sweet little island Melody queen sing.  She has not the money nor the wares to attract tourism, just a parrot of the sloots and their spin machine which is on high but heating up due to overuse.

Here's why there's a boycott. These are the thoughts of the typical Aruban. And she wonders when anyone will ever have something decent to say about her little corner of the world? Bet she gladly accepts US dollars though.

 U know every weekend i see tourist getting pissy drunk and passing out or driving at 90km per hour on the wrong side of the road.
 I am so sick of tourist smashing up rental cars cos there to drunk to hold the wheel. and about Natalee Holloway : she brought it on herself God knows if it wasn't her ex who killed her, cos he was there seeing how she was acting and further more why the heck was she so drinking so much and hanging around strangers . didn't she know better coming from the US and all. that is not acting ever so innocent -now is it? . all u ppl love to do is come to our islands and insult our way of living when all u guys ever do is get freaking drunk out of ur minds and pass out and make idiots of yourselfs. when will someone decent ever have a nice comment to say about MY Caribbean

Even better advice go and educate urself b4 making ignorant comments about a country u never been or better yet dont ever come to the Caribbean we don't need ur types here.

Proud Empress is so typical of the mindset.  Someone should put her in charge of ATA.  I'm sure that would build up those tourist numbers!

I'll be in the discussion.  I can't imagine we would get banned as long as we are not trying to hurt someone else here.  Problem right now is...I'm supposed to be working.  (shoot...I showed up and they want me to work too!)  I'm peeking in whenever I can...so just know you are not alone in that discussion.

I'm guessing here, but I don't think Lala's is referring to any particular person. I think she's referring to all the hoo-hah that erupted a few months ago when we had several monkeys who wanted to discuss Shango and Simian in the forum. It upset quite a few folks, and there was wailing and gnashing of teeth, and some of the Shango/Simian fans stopped posting.

Don't write me up if I'm wrong, Lala's, okay?

Well, Lala's recalls a night when the cage was beseiged by some whose involvement might/might not have been but I think what occurred was a standoff between some of the RU gang and the Monkeys, and there was more than one instance and to that one which you refer, but there are other forces that might not want it discussed.  

I have no idea.  I think I will let the laundry sit and see if it will iron itself.  I got the towels folded and put away.  It's ironing those darn cotton and linen things I keep buying that is eating at me like a moth on a wool coat.
