• CELINA CASS

A helicopter and search dogs combed areas of Stewartstown in extreme northern New Hampshire Tuesday for an 11-year-old who was missing when her family went to wake her in the morning.

Celina Cass, a lanky 11-year-old with a girlish smile, was last seen at 9 p.m. Monday in her bedroom on her computer, said her stepfather, Wendell Noyes.

She was gone the next morning. New Hampshire State Police said they don't know whether foul play is involved, and there was no evidence of a struggle at her home.

"Obviously, we're looking at every possibility," said state police Lt. Sheldon Belanger. "But it's really up in the air right now. It's kind of bizarre."

Belanger said dozens of people, several search dogs and a U.S. Border Patrol helicopter were looking for Cass Tuesday evening. They are focusing on Stewartstown, a town of 964 people wedged between Pittsburg to the north and Colebrook to the south.

Authorities said they have taken some evidence from the family home to try to track her down.

Also, police have talked to family, friends and many of the residents of Stewartstown, said state police Lt. Todd Landry. Reverse 911 calls have been made to people living in a 75-mile radius of her home, he said.

He said Cass gets along with her family and had no medical issues that would prompt her to leave.

"She never goes out of the house," Noyes said in a brief telephone conversation. He said Monday night was normal, and Cass was gone when he went into her room Tuesday morning.

Noyes couldn't think of anyone she would run away with, or anyone who would abduct her.

Her stepfather's message to Cass: "Get your butt home."

WEST STEWARTSTOWN, N.H. --
Celina Cass
The FBI has joined the search for missing 11-year-old West Stewartstown girl Celina Cass, and the Fish and Game department used two boats to search the Connecticut River on Wednesday, officials said.

The ground search for Cass was suspended on Wednesday as officials began to focus more on phone and computer records.

 ::snipping2::

State police said they don't have any indication that she ran away or that another family member took her, and her stepfather said it's not like her to leave home on her own. There are no signs of struggle at the house, police said.

Shannon Towles, who owns Towles Mini-Mart on Route 3, said the girl's disappearance has shaken the town of 800.

"It's creepy," she said. "Things like this don't happen here. I know that's kind of a tired phrase. I'm an overprotective mom as it is. Now it's going to be way worse."

Her stepfather, Wendell Noyes, described Celina as a quiet girl who would not have left home on her own. He declined to comment further, adding, "I'm not really at liberty to say anything."

Towles said Celina is not the type to hitchhike or run away. "She's just a little girl and she's a nice little girl."

I do not know how to add images here other than those that have a hyperlink or just text. On the Vermont Sex Offender registry are both Wendell Noyes brother and uncle, who are Celina Cass's Step uncle and step-great uncle. Their names are Gordon Edward Noyes and Norman Noyes, as confirmed relatives below. Both men had child victims under the age of 13 years.

Search for Missing New Hampshire Girl Focuses on Connecticut River
July 27, 2011

A New Hampshire Fish and Game official says the search for a missing 11-year-old girl is focused on the Connecticut River.

Lt. Douglas Gralenski said Wednesday a boat with an officer and a fishing guide is searching the river about a quarter of a mile from the home of Celina Cass in West Stewartstown.

He says the level of the river was lowered Tuesday to help with the search.

Fish and Game is assisting state police. Gralenski says the search has been scaled back from Tuesday because searchers have no fresh evidence about where to look.

A number of Vermont State Police troopers are in New Hampshire helping with the search.
 ::snipping2::
Police have said they're not yet sure if foul play is involved.

"Obviously, we're looking at every possibility," state police Lt. Sheldon Belanger told the newspaper. "But it's really up in the air right now. It's kind of bizarre."
