I wonder what led police to this man, and whether there is a confession.

Maybe someone saw something that seemed suspicious and called the tipline. In order to be labeled a "suspect" and be arrested, the police had to have damaging evidence.

As someone mentioned above, decades ago we could let our children play in the yard without worrying that someone would harm them. But, times have changed.

It seems children are not safe anywhere, and we could beat ourselves trying to figure out a reason for this, but there should be none. I mean, there is NO reason for an adult to hurt a child.

Shawn Morgan, 43, a neighbor of the Rodriguez family has been formally charged by prosecutors in Dunklin County in connection to the death of Breeann Rodriguez, 3, who has been missing since one week ago today.

TWO families with children, destroyed by this monster. I can not even fathom what these families will face in the coming days and years. What has happened to humanity?

SENATH, MO (KAIT) - According to Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney Stephen Sokoloff, Shawn Morgan, 43, of Senath, has been charged with first degree murder of 3-year-old Breeann Rodriguez. Morgan has also been charged with armed criminal action and tampering with physical evidence.

"Morgan is charged with causing the death of Breeann Rodriguez, 3-years old, also of Senath, by suffocating her," said Sokoloff. "The charge is that he did this on August 6th, the day that she went missing."

Senath Police Chief Omar Karnes told Region 8 News shortly before 8:00 Saturday night that search efforts for Breeann's body had been called off. He said the search will continue Sunday morning.

Shawn Morgan, 43, of Ode Johnson Street in Senath, Mo., faces charges of first-degree murder, armed criminal action and tampering with physical evidence. Authorities said they believe Morgan suffocated Breeann, although as of Saturday evening, they were still searching for her body and her bicycle in an undisclosed part of the county.

The Dunklin County sheriff's office in Kennett took Morgan into custody Saturday morning.

I can't get over the fact that a 3 and 5 year old were allowed to play outside, unsupervised. There is NO WHERE a child is safe any more.  Maybe there should be a Breeann Law passed which states that if a child is found unattended by a responsible caregiver, that person should be fined, made to take safety classes and be monitored by DCF. If there are laws that state you can not leave an animal locked in a car, why not laws to protect our children? I can't believe in this day and age, that people really think their children are safe, mainly from predators, but any child can have an accident of any sort, and if unattended, that means help is prolonged and serious consequences can occur due to time passing by.  Let kids be kids, carefree and able to play, but put the burden on the caregivers to ensure our children's safety.  jmoo

Thanks Klass, I couldn't tell exactly which house belonged to the perp. I noticed the small aluminum boat...... it appears the house is past Breeann's towards the dead end. My heart is sick thinking that this child was most likely right there while her parents frantically searched for her.

I think the search is going on South of Hwy 164 in Hornersville at Hornersville Swamp Conservation Area from what I can tell on the scanners. I am going to try and post the google map link, not sure if it will work.
