Mother hopes woman missing in Aruba will be found

DAVID DISHNEAU, Associated Press

Updated 08:16 a.m., Thursday, August 11, 2011

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) — The mother of a woman who disappeared during a trip to Aruba says the family is hoping for the best outcome and praying she'll be with them soon.

In a statement released by the Natalee Holloway Resource Center, Robyn Gardner's mother, Andrea Colson, also expressed gratitude to Aruban authorities and volunteers who are working above and beyond their expectations.

The case is reminiscent of the still-unsolved disappearance of Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway during a high school class trip to the island in 2005. Her remains were never found.

Good morning monkeys!

Does anyone know if Robyn was married before? If so, was she married to Kenneth Gray Gardner, Jr.? If not, are they related?

I'm not where I can look at what I have saved, but I believe that is her ex husband who she is scheduled for mediation and a court date later this year.  The divorce case was reopened in Feb of this year, to modify alimony and settlement of marital property.  I believe there were also some domestic violence issues with them.

DR. DREW
Maryland Woman Missing in Aruba
Aired August 10, 2011 - 21:00   ET

<snipped>

PINSKY: ... How is your organization, the Natalee Holloway Resource Center, getting involved in this case?

BETH HOLLOWAY, NATALEE HOLLOWAY`S MOTHER: Well, first of all, Richard made the call to the Natalee Holloway Resource Center on August the 8th, which was a great move on his part. We were able to immediately pull together some photos that Richard had given us.

And the biggest asset of the Natalee Holloway Resource Center is that we provide is we send out the media release. And as we al know, media is essential in helping to solicit tips and eyewitnesses. So we got that ball rolling through Richard`s efforts.

PINSKY: And Beth, I must say, it has to bring up all of those old feelings, even just seeing what Richard is going through. Have you been in contact with her family?

HOLLOWAY: I have not been in contact with Robyn`s family. And Richard has been communicating with the staff at the Natalee Holloway Resource Center. So we have just been -- I have just been working with the staff there to coordinate.

PINSKY: Has her family been involved with this?

HOLLOWAY: Her family has -- they have not -- no one at the Natalee Holloway Resource Center has spoken to Robyn`s family. I believe the only two people they have spoken to are the cousin and Richard himself.

Now that we know he did indeed have a rental car, do we know if they have conducted searches on the east coast side of island. That's the area that has really rough water, there are also caves on this side.  Do we know if Giordano has been to Aruba before and may know some of these areas.

FREDERICK, Md. (WUSA) -- Wednesday, Aruban authorities called off the search for 35-year-old Robyn Gardner. She disappeared while snorkeling, according to her traveling companion, Gary Giordano.

Robyn Gardner, 35, was reported missing in Aruba last week, say officials with the Natalee Holloway Resource Center. Gardner was last seen on Tuesday, August 2nd at the Renaissance Aruba Resort & Casino in Oranjestad, Aruba.

Thursday, Gardner's family released this statement:  ::snipping2::

We have learned disturbing new details about Gary Giordano's past. He lives in Darnestown. His place was searched last year during an investigation of allegations of rape, assault and secret videotaping. The cases involved two other women that never went to trial. ::snipping2::

"On August 2, 2011 at about 6.23 PM (local time) 911 received notification of a possible drowning of a woman. The traveling companion of this woman, a man G.V.G. stated that they were going snorkeling behind Nanki Country Club and that at a given moment he had signaled his friend to swim back to the beach. He stated further that the woman had not reached the beach together with him and apparently had remained in the water.
The American woman in question is R.G, age 35, the man is indicated as G.V.G, age 50, also an American.

In spite of intense searches during a number of days by amongst others the surveillance department and the detective department of the Aruban Police, the Aruban Maritime Police, the Coast Guard, Search and Rescue Divers and volunteer divers of Jads and the use of two helicopters, an airplane and several boats, until now the woman has not been found in sea or on the shore." ::snipping2::

I posted this a few pages back:

At Gary Girodano's house, a security camera on the roof keeps watch and there's a warning at the door telling all visitors that they will be video and audio recorded at all times, while visiting the property.

Giordano's apparent interest in videotaping everything is at the root of an application for a search warrant by a special investigator for Montogomery County's State's attorney signed by a judge May 5, 2010.

According to the application, the warrant was being sought in the wake of Giordano's arrest on April 22, 2010 after a woman accused him of hitting and choking her during consensual sex in the home.

In fact, investigators had a video of the entire attack. According to the application, the victim "was struck several times in the head, face buttocks and legs." She was also "digitally choked and subjected to manual strangulation during the event."

"I'm terrified," Richard Forester said today on "Good Morning America." "I've been hearing stories about Gary Giordano, that he's quite tech-savvy and is able to manipulate people's computers and track them and follow them."
Gary Giordano, 50, is being held as a suspect in the disappearance of Forester's girlfriend, Robyn Gardner, 35, of Frederick, Md., who vanished in the same Aruba town where another American woman, Natalee Holloway, disappeared six years ago.
Giordano and Gardner traveled together to Aruba July 31, according to Aruba police.
Gardner's best friend, Christina Jones, told "GMA" the two met on the online dating site Match.com and have known each other for one year.
"It was a bit of a rollercoaster relationship friendship," Jones said.
Giordano has claimed that he and Gardner went snorkeling together around 6 p.m. on Aug. 2, but Giordano returned back to shore amid rough currents and realized Gardner had not returned to shore with him. He alerted Aruba police who searched the area with ships, helicopters and divers, but did not find any sign of Gardner.
"I don't believe she was snorkeling," Forester, also of Maryland, said today on "GMA." "I don't believe that for a second. She would be too concerned with getting her hair messed up, getting her makeup messed up. She's a margarita kind of girl, sit by the pool or on the beach and relax. I don't buy it."
Forester said that during Gardner's trip to Aruba, they kept in touch through Blackberry text messages and emails from her iPad until the day of her disappearance, including one message, in particular, that raised his alarm.
"On Tuesday morning, the 2nd of August, at about two in the morning, she posted on my Facebook wall, 'this sucks,'" he said. "I tried to figure out what was going on, but she didn't really respond. "
"The last time I heard from her was later on in the afternoon," he added. "She sent me a message saying, you know, 'I love you, we'll talk and sort things out when I get back.'"

Giordano was originally treated as a witness to a drowning and was told by police he was allowed to leave the island, according to Taco H.W. Stein, spokesperson for the Aruba prosecutor's office. However, when parts of Giordano's story did not add up, they decided to arrest him, Stein said. He was arrested Friday as he attempted to board a flight to the U.S., according to police.
Giordano's attorney in Aruba, Michael Lopez, said there is no evidence that supports a murder charge for his client.
"They suspect murder but there's no proof, to my knowledge," said Michael Lopez, Giordano's attorney in Aruba. "I don't see any proof. There's no proof and no motive."
Forester points to concerns, however, that activity in Gardner's Gmail email account in the days since her disappearance may point back to Giordano.
"On Gmail, on the chat function that shows if you're active or not, there's a green indicator light, orange if you're idle and gray if you're off," he said.

"All day Wednesday and Thursday of last week it [Gardner's account], was green, orange and gray, and this is after she'd been reported missing," he said. "So somebody was on her Gmail account, getting in there. I was trying to talk to her, but couldn't."
"He [Giordano] has a keystroke program, this is just what I'm told, and is able to hack into people's email accounts," Forester said on "GMA."

Maryland court documents show that a Gary Giordano there has a criminal record, including two orders of protection taken out by women that claimed he was violent. One was taken out by his ex-wife during their divorce proceedings.
Two women who say they dated Giordano told "Good Morning America" he was terrifying, and another woman said Giordano stalked her.
"He was like following me, stalking me, and it freaked me out," said the woman, who wished to remain anonymous.
While Forester has used the media to bring attention to the his girlfriend's disappearance, Gardner's family has remained quiet, relying largely on the Natalee Holloway Resource Center, a foundation started after Holloway's disappearance, for help.
That changed today when Gardner's mother, Andrea Colson, released her own statement explaining the family's silence.
"We are confident and very grateful to the Aruba authorities and volunteers who are working above and beyond all our expectations," the statement read in part. "I hope you understand that we are being quiet as not to jeopardize the investigation. Please continue to pray for Robin. Thank you."
The family also announced that a confidential tipline has been established through the Holloway Center.
"I hope that she is found safe and sound and comes home, but if she isn't, I hope the perpetrator is brought to justice," Beth Holloway, mother of Natalee, told ABC News. "I'd say continue the search, keep passing out fliers and passing information—tips, sources—onto the law enforcement officials there. I would encourage them to accept all media invitations. There are positive steps to finding the loved one."
Forester told "GMA" that he has no plans to travel to Aruba, as Holloway's family did, to search for Gardner, but has not ruled out the possibility.
"I haven't been very rational lately in my thought process," he said. "But, you know, it may get to a point where I feel I need to go there just to be closer and be more involved. It's not an impossibility."

I wonder if Giordano had gone into her account and saw some things he didn't like prior to her disappearance - maybe even before they left for this trip - She wasn't forthcoming with Forester about Giordano, so she probably wasn't telling Giordano the whole truth regarding her relationship with Forester, but unfortunately Giordano is a loose cannon -

In addition he probably manipulated emails after her disappearance

Aruba Requests FBI Help in Missing Woman Case

The country has drafted a request to the FBI to ask for their help investigating the case in the U.S., according to Taco Stein, spokesperson for the prosecutor's office. Stein said they are looking for help getting information from third parties, including cell phone companies.

"Anything you have to ask a third party about must be subpoenaed," Stein said. "So we needed to ask the FBI, because only they can subpoena in the U.S."

Aruba investigators are looking to establish the pair's whereabouts and activities in the days and hours leading up to Gardner's disappearance so that they can present it to a judge on Monday in order to keep Giordano in the country longer, Stein said. Giordano has not been charged with a crime, but a judge can order him held for another eight days on suspicion, Stein said. The court appearance will be closed to the public.

The Aruba police had been in contact with the FBI and American authorities since the beginning of the investigation, Stein said, though they had not formally requested their help until now.

"We know the spot where he said she must have drowned. We have searched there extensively and in view of the weather situation we are almost certain that the body would have come to the surface," Stein said.

He said it was also possible that Giordano had told police to search in the wrong spot.

He said there were no unusual currents on Aug. 2, when Gardner disappeared. "The water was very calm and clear ... The search took place all the way to Venezuela."

All the way to Venezuela? if I remember correctly that's about 17 miles

Thanks Festa

Aruba will be forthright in the Robyn Gardner investigation.  Justice stands a chance of prevailing for Robyn.  Mark Giordano is not the son of a Dutch elite.  He does not have knowlege of the dirty little secrets encompassing Aruba's underground economy.
