CBS) Rob Grill, lead singer of The Grass Roots, died Monday. He'd been suffering from the after-effects of a fall. He was 67.

WCBS FM reports they were going to have Grill on to promote The Grass Roots' place in this summer's "Happy Together" tour but the fall prevented his appearance.

Grill had toured extensively in the past 30 years. As lead singer of The Grass Roots, he sang most of their hits, including "Let's Live for Today" and he shared lead vocals on the band's biggest hit, "Midnight Confessions."

The Pasadena Star-News reports Grill sustained a head injury in the fall in Lake Country, north of San Francisco. He was breathing on his own after the fall but was in a coma.

The Grass Roots' website states that Grill stopped leading the touring band but made special appearances.

I saw Rob a couple years ago, he was so talented and elegant looking in this black, double breasted suit with matching T-shirt.Smile

EUSTIS – Rob Grill, the lead singer of the 1960s rock band The Grass Roots and famous for such hits as "Sooner or Later" and "Temptation Eyes," died Monday morning at a hospice facility while listening to one of his favorite songs "Let's Live for Today," according to his wife, Nancy Grill. He was 67.

"My dear husband Robert Frank Grill, 67, of Mt Dora, Fl passed away peacefully in my arms at 11:37 a.m. (EST), while listening to one of his favorite songs…"Let's Live for Today." He loved his fans and he loved The Grass Roots! Thank you for all of your prayers, love and support during this time" Nancy Grill wrote on a music-lovers web site.

Raised in Hollywood, Calif., Grill's music career started while working at a studio with friends Cory Wells and John Kay, who would go on to form Three Dog Night and Steppenwolf. Grill then joined the Grass Roots and the band had their first Top 10 hit in 1967 with "Let's Live for Today."

The next year, the band had their biggest hit with 'Midnight Confessions,' with Grill on co-lead vocals. That song peaked at number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100. The band eventually had 29 best-selling singles including 13 of which went gold.

Grill said he needed the medicine to cope with the pain of six hip-replacement surgeries and a degenerative bone disorder called avascular necrosis.

When interviewed by the Orlando Sentinel in July 2007, Grill said he was no longer taking prescription medication and was handling the pain with aspirin.

Glorious.

The way I remember Rob Grill, smiling and singing at his show, he said he was on the Senior Tour...
