Newly released emails reveal Susan Powell's inner fears

http://www.komonews.com/news/local/Newly-released-emails-reveal-Susan-Powells-inner-fears-149430735.html

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - Before she disappeared, Susan Powell wrote about family problems in emails to friends and family, saying Josh Powell had become a moody and controlling husband she feared could harm her.

The emails were provided to The Salt Lake Tribune shortly after Susan disappeared in December 2009. But at the request of the provider, the newspaper held back on publishing them.

The newspaper reports that Susan emailed several co-workers, friends and members of her ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to pour out frustration with her husband and to seek advice on how to proceed with the relationship.

The emails were sent between June 30 and Oct. 31, 2008.

"I want him in counseling, on meds, I want my husband, friend, lover BACK no more crazy, outrageous, outlandish beliefs/opinions," she wrote in an email to friends dated July 11, 2008, as she described stress and depression related to her crumbling marriage, the Salt Lake Tribune reported.

Do these clues help explain what happened to Utah mom Susan Powell?

 ::snipping2::

For example, why did police take a zip-lock baggie of hair from a bedroom closet at Steve Powell’s home during an Aug. 25, 2011, search? What, if anything, does a pair of blue/green winter gloves found in a mudroom under the stairs at the home during the search have to do with the case? Perhaps in time the pieces will complete a picture. In the meantime, do these clues help answer what happened to Susan Powell?

 ::snipping2::

Members of Mojave Underground, who explore historic mines, conducted three searches of every known and open mine in the Tintic mountains, West Tintics and the Dugway Range but found nothing. Only one mine left a question in the mind of Stuart Burgess, co-founder. The group publicly announced it would search the Iron Sides mine the weekend of June 25-26, 2010. When volunteers arrived, they discovered someone had poured gasoline down the 300-foot-deep shaft and also set fire to the wooden supports at the surface. It was still smoldering and they had to call off the exploration. Months later, Burgess returned and rappeled down the shaft; the bottom was unreachable, buried under 30 feet to 50 feet of debris.

I sure would like to know where Josh and Steve Powell were on the weekend of June 25-26.  Seems pretty hinky to me that the mine that was going to be searched went up in flames before the group could get there.

Reading Susan's emails are so hard.  She was so sweet to put up with all of that emotional abuse for so long for the sake of her boys and her marriage.  Josh had no clue how blessed he was to ever have such a jewel in his life.  It's just heartbreaking to see how she was treated.

20/20 on ID is featuring this case tonight - this is a new episode I think as they are covering the murder of the children by the POS.

I think that one of the reasons that JP was so cruel to Susan was because she was such and good person and did live her faith.  That made him feel inferior, so he took it out on her.  JMHO an angelic monkey

Steven Powell not likely to take stand in own defense
Published: Thursday, May 3 2012 10:59 a.m. MDT

TACOMA, Wash. — Steven Powell will apparently not take the witness stand in his own defense during his trial on charges of voyeurism and child pornography next week.

Powell's defense team submitted its witness list this week to the Pierce County Superior Court in preparation for his upcoming trial on 14 counts of voyeurism and one count of possession of materials of minors engaged in explicit conduct. The list includes just two people, Glenn Glover and Dave La Tourette, private investigators for Powell's defense team.

Steven Powell is not listed as a potential person to take the stand.

Sins of the father: Steven Powell's behavior leaves a legacy of harm
Published: Saturday, May 5 2012 1:00 p.m. MDT

TACOMA, Wash. — Jennifer Graves wanted answers.

It had been six weeks since Susan Cox Powell had gone missing from her West Valley home and speculation was growing that her brother Josh Powell was responsible.

Now Graves was headed to Washington state to confront him herself at the home of her father and get a confession. But Josh remained silent.

Her father Steven Powell did not.

“Oh, it wasn't good. At one point he let out this string of swear words. And my husband was there with me, and holding it together pretty well. And we knew going in that it was probably going to be tense because I went in there for that reason,” Graves said.

It was Jan. 22, 2010, the last time she would speak to her father, who today sits in a Washington jail cell facing voyeurism and child pornography charges. Monday, the tragic family story centers on the family patriarch and enters its final chapter as the trial of Steven Powell begins.

Graves recalled a business trip where Josh and another boy were swimming in a hotel pool, and a short time later she found them around a corner with a 4-year-old girl who was no longer wearing a swimsuit.
So as a child Josh was molesting children?  Terribly sad that no one reported him.

Jennifer is amazingly strong and what fantastic support she receives from her husband.  IMO, Terri is just as guilty as Steven.  She knew.  All along she knew. She did nothing but a couple of 'my husband is mean' type of whines in the divorce papers.  Then she attempts to protect Josh.  That woman deserves the same sentence as her husband...sorry ex-husband.  Lucky for them I don't get to impose the sentence.

Jury selection could prove difficult in Steven Powell case
May 6th, 2012 @ 5:50pm

 ::snipping2::
According to Skordas, prosecutors will want parents who have young children, on the jury but the defense will want another kind of juror involved in the case.

"As a defense attorney, you might try to avoid those type of people and maybe have people who are a little more open-minded who are a little more worldly about the Internet and accessibility about certain things," Skordas said.

Steven Powell isn't expected to take the stand in his defense. The defense's witness list includes only two private investigators. Prosecutors have a longer list of potential witnesses, including 20 members of West Valley City Police, the Pierce County Sheriff's Office and Jennifer Graves, Powell's estranged daughter.

The two alleged victims, sisters who are now 13 and 14 years old, could also be called to testify.

"They're very determined to see justice in this case and one of them wants to be a detective and she wants to testify to be a part of his process," said Anne Bremner, the prosecution's attorney.

Bremner also represents Chuck and Judy Cox, parents of Susan Cox Powell. The Coxes will be following the trial closely too. They're looking for anything that could lead them to their missing daughter.

"It's not clear whether there will be answers or not, but they're hopeful to learn more about her disappearance through the course of the trial itself," Bremner said.
