I just got home, Josef is on the oxygen and IV to keep him stable until the morning. I am praying he makes it through the night so that the girls at PetLodge can see him before we do what we have to do tomorrow. Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers.  Never thought it would happen this way. Just hard on me right now. 

Oh JSM - my heart breaks for both of you right now. I am so sorry. No words to ease the pain but know that you are a good mommy to him and have always done what was best for him.   

TBM, thank you, I have tried my best for Josef and I guess I didn't do all I could. Thank God for my nephew and all you monkeys for being here for me and big thank you to CC. Love you all.

You did more than enough, JSM.  The only reason he was here as long as he was is because of you.  You have gone above and beyond in your care for Josef.  Please, believe that.  I wish you would stop being so hard on yourself, you are such a kind, loving, and giving person who has been amazingly sensitive to all of Josef's needs.  You have treated your fur baby with the utmost care.

  Thank you Bearly, I am still having a hard time of it, kind of like your friend when she lost her pup. I still beat myself up about it, but when I was at Mass yesterday morning the kind lady that hugged me made me feel much better. I did all I could for Josef, just wish I could have done more.

The only way you could have done more is if you were God, and fortunately, that position is not ours to take, God is omniscient, knows all, and we don't.  We do not know what is next or why things happen.  I know you prayed all you could, and so did everyone else.  For some reason, Jo was needed in heaven.  He had been suffering, from what you have told us, maybe this was a way to ease that.  I don't know.  Please be comforted in the fact that there was nothing anyone could do, they tried their best, the doctors and caretakers of Jo, tried so very hard.  It is okay to cry, and I am sure it is normal to have doubts, doubts in yourself and even doubts in God.  Please trust that you have done everything humanly possible.

My friend adopted a 10 year old Basset over the weekend, named Bart.  An older couple needed to go to a retirement home and needed someone to take care of him.  It was the perfect fit.  Bart is not Roscoe, there is no mistake in her mind.  Roscoe suffered with stomach issues for so long and lost weight and kept getting sick.  He would have a couple of good days and go back and get sick again.  This took a lot out of her, too, and she did what she could, just like you.

No doubt there are people who view this thread who wish they had a Mommy like you, that they got even half of the care and love you showered on Jo.  You will go through many emotions and many feelings during this time, please know what we all do, and that is Jo had the best Jo-Mommy in the whole world.  No one else had as much to give him as you did.  Please take some of that love and care and give it to yourself.  Pamper yourself the way you did Josef.  If you can't do it for you, do it for him, that is what he would have wanted for his Mommy, just what he had, and that is the best care in the world.

  Bearly THANK YOU!!! Your words have me crying but I know you are right, Josef doesn't want me to suffer. I will do it for him. Do something for myself. Try and get over this, but it is hard. I am so glad your friend got a dog. I have a feeling once the pain subsides, I will too. Thank you for saying I was a good Mommy to him. I tried and did my best for him over the years and yes it was God's time to take him and I can't argue with God (I did and still do, but He always wins). Love you bunches Bearly!!!

You were still in my prayers at the shore.  I could not sleep for some reason, but I had no internet access.  It was girls gone giddy.  We all talk at the same time.  One of us was missing, she had too much to do, so there were 9 of us.  I am, as expected, suffering for the trip, but when I feel better, I will be so glad I went.  I have been friends with them since grade school and high school.  There is no group of people who know me better.  We are all in the same position in life and it is great to have people to share it with who understand.  I missed my monkeys, too.

My brother tried to give us Phillies tickets for tonight.  We could not go because I am not well.  It is also the night we visit my Dad and have all you can eat pizza with a friend and we cannot go there either.  Gas money and snack money would have been too much, also.  I know how you feel about thinking you have not done everything you could.  I even feel selfish about taking that trip to the shore when I knew it would knock me out having two long drives in such a short time.  I am thinking about breaking it off with the guy I met because he deserves so much more.  So, believe me when I tell you, I know how someone can doubt that they have done the best they could. 

You have done so much for Jo and even denied yourself when you needed something in order to give what you had available to him.  He would want you to know how much you being his Mommy meant to him.  Please let him tell you that and believe it.

Oh sweetheart, sounds like you had such a fun time, I am so sorry you are suffering from the trip. PLEASE don't break up with the guy because YOU think he deserves more. Have you thought that maybe he DOES deserve you and would be heartbroken if you broke up. Now if he is giving you the feeling that you are not for him, then break up, but DO NOT do something just because you think he deserves more. He has the best there is and that is YOU!!! Sorry you couldn't go to the Phillies game, I totally understand. So PLEASE for me take care of yourself like you told me to do. We love you Bearly and I don't want you hurting. Do what you think is right with this fella, but think long and hard because he sounds like a great guy and if he cares about you, then he will be there for you when you are suffering.

Tip-toeing in here to offer my sympathy to JSM who has faced what everyone who has beloved pets has to face, making the hardest decision we have to make, but it is the last kindest thing we can do for them.

St Francis of Assisi is the patron saint of animals and I know his angels watch over all our pets until we can reunite with them over the rainbow bridge.
