My brother and SIL have two donkeys, "Rosebud" and "Lucky".  Rosebud was a rescue and not too long after they took possession of her, they found out she was expecting, and out came "Lucky".  The donkeys are valuable to them to keep the coyotes and other predators away from their cattle.  (And they're also big pets!)  I just saw in a blog about a family that are looking for homes for their two donkeys because they can't afford to keep feeding them because of the extreme drought.  And now I see this article.

Officials say the drought is the reason for an increase in the number of donkeys abandoned in Texas.

SAN ANTONIO (September 11, 2011)—Sheriffs’ departments and animal rescue organizations say donkeys are being abandoned in Texas in growing numbers because the state's worst drought since the 1950s has made them too costly to keep and their owners can't sell them.

Cash-strapped owners are freeing the animals on the sides of roads and leaving their fate up to law enforcement agencies and a determined group of donkey rescue operations.

Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue, a California-based nonprofit organization with a 260-acre rescue ranch near San Angelo, says Texas alone has brought 500 donkeys into the group's care since March 100 more donkeys than the organization rescued nationally last year.

His survival was amazing !

How sad Muffy that people are just freeing their donkeys because of the drought. Thank goodness for the rescue organization to take care of them. Donkeys are great for keeping away coyotes, and Rosebud and Lucky are lucky to have your brother to take care of them.

Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue is a wonderful organization..I have been involved with it since rescuing my guys. They would give us advice on how to have our farrier do trims to vet care. Including a link to their web site.

We had wonderful services yesterday.  In my church, we celebrate Memorial Day, Independence Day, September 11th, and Veterans' Day.  Although I never use to pulpit to talk politics, we are very patriotic . . . anyway, I don't try to understand why some pastors stay away from honoring who we are.
The lady from Hospice died yesterday afternoon, but I am afraid I will not be able to do the service as I am very sick.  With the exception of services yesterday, I have been in bed with this cold, fever, etc.  This too shall pass . . . I just wish it would pass quickly!

We had wonderful services yesterday.  In my church, we celebrate Memorial Day, Independence Day, September 11th, and Veterans' Day.  Although I never use to pulpit to talk politics, we are very patriotic . . . anyway, I don't try to understand why some pastors stay away from honoring who we are.
The lady from Hospice died yesterday afternoon, but I am afraid I will not be able to do the service as I am very sick.  With the exception of services yesterday, I have been in bed with this cold, fever, etc.  This too shall pass . . . I just wish it would pass quickly!

Praying for you Sister that you get well soon. Glad services went well. I am so sorry about the lady in hospice passing. I'm sorry you can't do the service, you need to get rest and get well.
