BLONDE - if they ask you to evacuate you better do it!

Just  went for a ride to the shore line no one is doing anything . 10 miles away from my home. Their not boarding up windows..Their all playing in the water so I'm not too worried.
 I just want hubby to move camper out of the road. gezzzzzzzzz

our yard has 65 trees but if he moves to the middle we should be OK but he hasn't yet
 Other wise we are all set been down this road before many times..

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg today announced the first ever mandatory evacuation of low lying waterfront areas of the city. Those areas include parts of the financial district in lower Manhattan as well as sections along the Hudson and East rivers. The zone, which includes 250,000 people, was ordered emptied by 5 p.m. Saturday.

The mayor also ordered that its sprawling subway and bus system -- Gotham's lifeline -- be closed from Saturday afternoon until Monday. Shutting down the transit system will paralyze a city where most people don't drive cars. A spokesperson for the MTA said that in recent memory the entire subway system has only been shutdown twice, on Sept. 11, 2001 and during a strike in 2005.

New York takes unprecedented steps ahead of Irene

(Reuters) - New York City on Friday ordered the evacuation of more than 250,000 people and prepared to shut down its entire mass transit system, both unprecedented measures ahead of the expected battering from Hurricane Irene.

The powerful and unusually large storm trudged up the U.S. East Coast on Friday, threatening 55 million people including more than 8 million in New York City, which was expecting heavy winds late on Saturday or early on Sunday.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg ordered people living in low-lying areas -- including the Financial District surrounding Wall Street in Manhattan -- out of their homes by 5 p.m. (2100 GMT) on Saturday, saying 91 emergency shelters would be open on Friday.

The transit system that carries 8.5 million people a day would start shutting down around noon (1600 GMT) on Saturday, a process that could take eight hours.

"We've never done a mandatory evacuation before and we wouldn't be doing it now if we didn't think this storm had the potential to be very serious," Mayor Michael Bloomberg told a news conference.

New York state Governor Andrew Cuomo activated 900 National Guard troops while airlines moved aircraft from the danger zone and canceled at least 1,000 flights and the city's four zoos stocked up to keep the animals fed.

SAN is also in jeopardy and I can't get her to evacuate.  She's trying to get supplies today if she can.  D batteries are already hard to find.

Took my neighbor out to get his supplies today and we went to 5 major stores. They were ALL out of D cell batteries.

That was really kind of you to take your neighbor out to get supplies Brandi.   No D cells?     Last time we had severe weather in my area from an ice storm, I ended up finding the lights that strap to the forehead very useful.  If any one has any of those, you might want to bring them out.
