Reminds me of the White Christmas film song: SISTERS! SISTERS! Many men have tried to split us up, but no one can
Lord help the mister who comes between me and my sister...

"Statements interpreter Van der Sloot unreliable

UPDATE The Dutch interpreter in the process of Joran van der Sloot wrote after the murder of Stephany Flores that "justice" would come. He also referred to Van der Sloot a "psychopath". Metro says Professor Theo de Roos Criminal Procedure that the statements are unreliable.

Van der Sloot is suspected of killing Flores in a hotel room. Interpreter Maurice Stein joined in Peru earlier in court. On a website he left behind several comments in which he was critical of Van der Sloot.

Metro makes some lawyers have their say. They find that the man by his statements can not be seen as impartial.
As Professor of International Criminal Justice Göran Sluiter points out that any recordings of the interview can create clarity. "The court must Joran's statements at least critically."

disqualify
Van der Sloot has already, unsuccessfully, tried to Steins and the lawyer who was present at the first hearings to disqualify. He did this by stating that Stein as a translator in court could function as the interpreter according to a police statement worked for the Dutch embassy. It is unclear whether his defense was also aware of the aforementioned comments above Stein's translator.

Stein said in October this year in a statement that it is not. "I told him clearly that I often do translations for the Peruvian dish," says the interpreter. "Then he agreed with me as interpreter." Stein thinks that Van der Sloot in this way the confession that he had slain Flores wanted to get off the table. The translator thinks it was a desperate act of Joran, because his confession life can get. (AFP / Editorial)

AMSTERDAM - Experts find the interpreter that Joran van der Sloot after his arrest was assigned unreliable and inadequate.

When Van der Sloot after the death of Stephany Flores was arrested in Chile, wrote the interpreter and commenter on the website of the Peruvian newspaper El Comercio that it is "highly suspect" was that Van der Sloot had left the country.

"Let us hope that this time justice will be." This seems a reference to the disappearance of Natalee Holloway, a case in which Van der Sloot remains the prime suspect is.

Shortly after the death of Flores had been the interpreter in a written response that the victim "a psychopath" bump was gone. A day after Van der Sloot was arrested. Three days later the man was identified as an interpreter at the first police interrogation. He was justice has often assisted as interpreter.

inappropriate

The statements to the interpreter in criminal procedure professor Theo de Roos unreliable. "He was therefore unfit to translate that as a sore thumb. But it's the defense to make it work," he says in the newspaper.

Adele van der Plas, lawyer sees the reactions of the interpreter evidence of bias.

Perhaps Stein was impartial when assigned.  It was after talking to Joran that he decided he was a psychopath. I can see someone forming an opinion when he was in the room and hearing both sides. Mister Stein could have concluded that Joran was being railroaded.  He didn't.

I couldn't find TM's post about the couple getting robbed and reporting to the Visibility Team.  This might be related to that:

Tue Dec 06, 2011 11:16 am

Location: Chicago, IL
Just returned Saturday from a yet another wonderful stay in Aruba. BUT unfortunately while during my stay a couple who stayed at the resort (PBV) were walking from the Tulip restuarant back to the resort and were held up at GUN POINT!!! I know this first hand as I spoke with the man. He said he and his wife were walking along the sidewalk and a car pulled up and 2 men got out and demanded their wallets, watches and cell phones. They took their money and the man's watch. They did notify police, which they said took the police a while to arrive at the resort. Said the police seemed somewhat surprised that a gun was used. Regardless, please be careful, travel in groups and carry as little cash as possible on you.

Bottom Line

'Joran has girlfriend'
Published on 9 June 2011 - 4:26pm

Murder suspect Joran van der Sloot reportedly has a girl friend who regularly visits him in prison.

The father of Van der Sloot’s victim Stephany Flores has told Radio Netherlands Worldwide that “We know this girl has been seeing him for several weeks now”. Mr Flores says she is an employee at the casino where Joran met Stephany. The young woman reportedly helps Joran with all kinds of day-to-day affairs. She was at his side the whole time during Wednesday’s court hearing.

The hearing was the first time Ricardo Flores came eye-to-eye with Joran van der Sloot, who is accused of killing Stephany Flores more than a year ago. Mr Flores said he could not stand being in the same room with the suspect. “I had to leave the room, I could not stand it” Mr Flores said.

The trial was adjourned because Mr van der Sloot still had not been assigned an interpreter and because of the resignation of his attorney Máximo Altez. However, during the hearing Mr Van der Sloot, who lived on the island of Aruba for years, was able to address the court in fluent Spanish.

Mr Flores refuses to believe that Máximo Altez has actually resigned as Joran van der Sloot’s attorney. He believes it is all part of the lawyer’s strategy.

Was Joran van der Sloot affording Aruba a subtle message ... a message that he was holding the Ace ... the Ace that had the ability at his discretion to topple the Aruban house of card in regards to the corruption encompassing Natalee Holloway case if assistance concerning his his Peruvian predicament was not forthcoming?

- Yes, I have voluntarily surrendered. It was my decision.

44. Do you have something to add or change to this statement?

"I want to read everything. And I wish to discuss the Natalee Holloway case. There are chances that if this process quickly and smoothly, I am extradited to Aruba . I want to talk about the case but not now. I want to talk with the police in Aruba . If there is a risk that the case be closed, then I am willing to assist in clarifying.

Van der Sloot tries again to get confession tossed

Birmingham, Ala (WIAT)  Joran van der Sloot has been protesting his confession to killing Stephany Flores almost since the day the words passed his lips.

In fact, he's claiming those weren't the words that passed his lips.

Like all things van der Sloot it's both complicated and inconsistent.

The latest development are reports in Dutch newspapers that the translator used in his confession had days before referred to van der Sloot as a "psychopath" and later indicated that perhaps there would be "justice"...an apparent reference to the Natalee Holloway case.

According to the Dutch website MetroNews, translator Maurice Stein used the login name  Mauriceje and Maurice S.  to post comments on El Commercio like "It is very suspicious that he leave the country one day later. Let us hope that this time justice will be. "

Although van der Sloot is apparently willing to plead guilty to killing Flores, a 21 year old Peruvian student.  in a fit of passion he isn't willing to plead guilty to murder.

He says he killed Flores in a rage after she found material about Natalee Holloway on his laptop.  Peruvian police say he killed Flores to rob her.

 ::snipping2::

After van der Sloot was handed over to Peruvian police after fleeing to neighboring Chile, he was questioned and reportedly confessed to killing Stephany.

But van der Sloot and a string of defense lawyers have long claimed a variety of irregularities in the interrogation including the competence of the Dutch translator/interpretor used by the police.

Maurice Stein apparently called van der Sloot a "psycho" in the Peruvian daily El Commercio BEFORE Peruvian police used him as the interpretor/translator while questioning van der Sloot.

Stein's qualifications were part of a previous attempt to get the confession tossed out, but this is the first time his apparent prior bias against van der Sloot has been raised.

Van der Sloot is scheduled to stand trial in Lima January 6.

Thanks Grace.  Other than CBC42 - Birmingham ... the media silence forthcoming from the major American networks is deafening.

Is the sceduled trial date January 6th or February 6th?  The Peruvian articles posted imply February 6th.

Who besides the "Guardian Angel" is underwriting the costs associated with Joran van der Sloot's lawsuits and appeals?

Van der Sloot Will "Paralyze the Process" in Murder Trial, Says Report

LIMA, Peru (CBS/AP) After a judge denied a defense motion to void the confession of Joran van der Sloot on Friday in the murder of Stephany Flores, van der Sloot's attorney, Maximo Altez, said he would appeal the decision all the way to the Supreme Court, according to a report.

Altez previously told The Associated Press that he would appeal the judge's decision to a higher court, and CNN reports that Altez has said van der Sloot's strategy is to "paralyze the process."

Altez told CNN that van der Sloot will use every possible law available to him, and will even reach out to the Inter-American Court of Human Rights in Costa Rica once he has exhausted his options in Peru.

CBS 42 in Birmingham this morning was showing a video of that Mary Hamer at Castro Castro
in Peru.  I can't find a link to it yet.  She looks and talks really goofy.
She goes on and on about what a good person Joran is and that he shares and hugs. She says that the FBI conspired against him in Aruba and Peru...pure foolishness IMO.
She has a big red flower in her hair too.

Maybe she meant she shared his drugs.

ARUBA SUSPECTS BLOOD MONEY OUTRAGE!
December 7, 2011
By DAVID WRIGHT, NATIONAL ENQUIRER

Suspected murderers GARY GIORDANO and JORAN VAN DER SLOOT plan to make a KILLING financially from their notoriety!

Joran, who confessed to killing a 21-year-old Peruvian woman before recanting, is suing two South American governments for $10 million for violating his “human rights.”

And in the U.S., an insurance company is preparing for a $1.5 million claim from recently freed Gary Giordano, who bought a travel accidental death policy on missing blonde Robyn Gardner. Aruban authorities suspect he was involved in her disappearance while the two were vacationing on the island paradise.

<snipped>

Meanwhile, Joran has been locked up in the grim Miguel Castro Castro prison in Peru since soon after college student Stephany Flores was found battered and strangled in his Lima hotel room 18 months ago. Her grieving family was stunned last month when Joran suddenly filed a $10 million lawsuit against the governments of Peru and Chile – where he was captured. The monster – whose trial is slated to begin Jan. 6 – claims that his rights were violated when he was extradited from Chile to Peru, and later when he was denied phone calls to his mother.

“Joran has also been indicted for attempting to extort $250,000 from a grieving family in another Aruba missing woman case,” noted investigator Wood.

“Now he has the nerve to sue for millions the authorities who captured him when he was on the run!”

Gary Giordano

“It blows the mind,” Art Wood, a former U.S. Secret Service agent who has closely followed the Gardner case, told The ENQUIRER.

“There’s a mass of suspicion that Giordano killed a woman he barely knew after taking out a $1.5 million insurance policy on her.

“But there’s no body and no witnesses, and since authorities can’t charge him, he has every right to file an insurance claim.”

Aruban prosecutors released Giordano, 50, on Nov. 29 – four months after he told authorities that his 35-year-old vacation companion Robyn, who lived in Frederick, Md., vanished while snorkeling.

“It’s likely he will be able to make a claim,” noted insurance expert Bob Underdown, who’s served as an expert witness in dozens of insurance-related cases.

“You can’t deny coverage on suspicions, and what is likely to happen is that Giordano will certainly find an attorney to take the case, the insurer will fight it – and they will eventually settle for a sum.”

Giordano has not been charged with any crime and has denied that he has anything to do with Robyn’s disappearance.

Mary, Mary quite the loon
set out to go to the moon
then one day
she went to Peru
and there she wept
and cried for mister magoo

Carmen Miranda
