ORLANDO, Fla. —

Only WFTV has found out that the judge who first oversaw Casey Anthony's murder trial is leaving the bench altogether.

Circuit Judge Stan Strickland is also the same judge who sentenced Casey to jail time and probation for her check fraud charges.

Why is Strickland stepping down? In a word, he said he's "weary."

There are also indications that accusations against Strickland made in court by Casey Anthony's defense team could be resurfacing.

Now, there's talk that his appearance on Grace's show has led to a Judicial Qualifications Committee complaint against the judge.

"We are certainly prepared that should they want to press that point, we are going to defend his right to make the comments he's made vigorously," Sheaffer said.

We checked with the Judicial Qualifications Committee and so far, there's no record of a complaint.

But a complaint would not become public unless the Judicial Qualifications Committee finds probable cause to believe Strickland broke the rules.

I for one, am sad to hear of Strickland's resignation.

Me to.  I think Caylee's chance at justice was greatly compromised when Judge Stan stepped down.  I think he's got the backbone to back up what he says.  Unlike Belvin, who caved.

He did not provide a reason for his leaving the bench and was unavailable for immediate comment this morning.

Strickland handled judicial assignments, ranging from county traffic court duties from 1995 to 1997 to circuit criminal and civil work in recent years, according to the Ninth Judicial Circuit Court website.

He became widely known, though, as the first judge to handle the Casey Anthony criminal cases.

But in April 2010, Anthony attorney Jose Baez argued to have Strickland removed, saying the judge had a "personal relationship" with a blogger critical of Anthony.

In a memo supporting the motion to disqualify the judge, Baez and J. Cheney Mason also brought up a previous statement Strickland made during a July 2008 hearing -- after Anthony's arrest but before Caylee's body was found -- that "the truth and Miss Anthony are strangers."

Strickland dismissed the idea that he was biased against Baez and his client, but ultimately recused himself.

His order granting the motion was filled with choice words for the defense, including one often repeated line: "At its core, defense counsel's motion accuses the undersigned of being a 'self-aggrandizing media hound.' Indeed. The irony is rich."

   I'd forgotten about that comment!  I have no doubt Stan the Man wouldn't have bowed to the defense like Belvin did.  He's got too much spunk.

So here is the plan to this point. There will be a book signing in orlando on the 21st of Nov. at 6 pm at the public library. There will be another at a bookstore in Vero beach late last week of Nov/first week Dec. Not sure yet of any others. Probably will be others in fForida but apparently it is set up upon request of the various bookstores them selves. Will keep everyone up to date. I will be on the Today show the morning of the 15th then making the rounds of the shows in NYC. We actually got tickets to a broadway show while we are there.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Orange County Judge Stan Strickland is retiring, and he spoke with WESH's Bob Kealing about why he's decided to leave the bench.
"I'm worn out and ready to try something new," Strickland said.

Strickland will retire officially on Dec. 31. He said his resignation has nothing to do with the Casey Anthony case.

For the first time, the Florida Bar is confirming the general nature of the two ongoing complaints lodged against Casey Anthony defense attorney Jose Baez.

One complaint stems from Baez's failure to share discovery information with the prosecution last winter as the Anthony case was heading to trial, according to Francine Walker with the Florida Bar.

That was not a surprise because Baez was sanctioned in January by Chief Judge Belvin Perry and made to pay a fine for his "willful violation" of a court order.

The other complaint, which was less apparent before today, involves Baez's failure to disclose to the court that Casey Anthony was being allowed to serve probation for her check-fraud case while in jail awaiting trial for murder in the death of her 2-year-old daughter Caylee.

The Bar confirmed last week that both complaints against Baez had progressed to a grievance committee. That means the complaints have not closed without discipline and moved from staff level to the next point in the process.

Phone Call Halts Casey Anthony Deposition Filing
Anthony's Civil Attorney To File Emergency Motion

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Casey Anthony's deposition was nearly released Tuesday, but the process was halted by Anthony's civil attorney.
Anthony was deposed over the weekend by attorney John Morgan, who is representing Zenaida Gonzalez, the Kissimmee woman who claims her name was ruined when Anthony said a woman by the same name kidnapped her daughter.

Matt Morgan, John Morgan's son, who works with his family's law firm, tweeted that he was at the Orange County Courthouse on Tuesday to file the deposition when he received a call from Anthony's attorneys, saying they were going to file an emergency motion to seal the video.

If the deposition had been filed, it would have been available to the public. Morgan and Morgan also planned to post the video on its website, Matt Morgan said.

Since Anthony's attorney notified Morgan of his intent to file the emergency motion, Morgan was unable to file the deposition. Doing so, he said, could have created the possibility for legal sanctions.
