Maksim Chmerkovskiy Attacks the Judges on Dancing with the Stars

He danced the rumba on Broadway night – then orchestrated a show-stopping fight.

Maksim Chmerkovskiy melted down Monday on Dancing with the Stars, railing against the judges – specifically Len Goodman – after receiving 20 out of 30 points for his routine with partner Hope Solo.

"Hope, I've never lost faith in you," Len said, after the dance to "Seasons of Love" from the musical Rent. "I always feel like there is so much there, and for some reason it hasn't come out."

Continued Goodman: "This is your worst dance of the season in my opinion."

But Maksim disagreed – and he didn't mince words.

After arguing with Goodman, who scolded the dance pro, telling him, "I've been in this business for 50 years," Chmerkovskiy sharply retorted: "Then maybe it's time to go!"

The two yelled back and forth before Maks and Hope headed backstage, where Chmerkovskiy told host Brooke Charvet, "With all due respect, this is my show. I help make it what it is," as a general feeling of anxiety and discomfort filled the ballroom.

And Chmerkovskiy and Solo weren't even the night's lowest scoring duo.

That (dubious) honor went to Chaz Bono and Lacey Schwimmer, whose tango to the title track of The Phantom of the Opera earned them 19 points.

Meanwhile, J.R. Martinez continued his dancing dominance, earning a near-perfect 29 for his quickstep to "Hot Honey Rag" from Chicago. "You are truly relentless," Len said, while awarding him and partner Karina Smirnoff a 9. (Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba each gave them a perfect 10.) And Ricki Lake rebounded from last week, nabbing 29 points as well.

Maksim Chmerkovskiy takes on the 'Dancing with the Stars" double standard

Professional "Dancing with the Stars" dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy, not known for being shy or without words, came to the defense of his partner Hope Solo when the judges unfairly criticized her dance routine.

After judge Len Goodman called their dance "the worst" from the couple this season, Maks shot back, saying all that matters is what the crowd thought it was good.

When Maks tried to get the audience to cheer, Len said: Don't do that!

"Half of this is your fault," Len said.

"As long as America likes our journey, we're good," Maks said.

Then Len started to read off his resume, and saying he has been in the business for 50 years.

"Then maybe it's time to get out," Maks said.

Judge Carrie Ann Inaba got in the shouting matching, calling Maks "disrespectful."

Maks said he was tired of the judgmental comments and that he was merely protecting this partner.

The debate carried on to when Hope and Maksim got their scores, receiving a "20" -- 7 from Carrie Ann, 6 from Len, and 7 from Bruno Tonioli.

'Dancing With the Stars' week 6 recap: Maks and Hope tussle with judges, Chaz Bono falls flat

Bright lights, big stars, bad attitudes: Ah, Broadway.

This week's "Dancing With the Stars" kicked off with the chorus from "Sister Act" and wrapped up with a group number to "Hey Big Spender," but it was the drama that unfolded in between that really made it a spectacle to behold.

The seven remaining contestants all upped their game with more complicated dances and sharper moves - with the exception of one very crestfallen Chaz Bono, who disappointed the judges with his stiff tango to "Phantom of the Opera."

"That was a bit like a cute penguin trying to be a giant bird of prey," Bruno expressed, to boos and hisses from the audience. "It's just not your character."

Len and Carrie Ann agreed, awarding Chaz and partner Lacey (who was fuming) a lowly 19 points, a full 10 points behind competition leaders Ricki Lake and J.R. Martinez.

"There's not much to say, is there?" a tight-lipped Chaz said after the scores were announced.

Nancy Grace didn't have much to say after the judges awarded her her first 9 of the season either - but her silence came from pure shock.
