Hope Solo’s life is about to get much more complicated

If Hope Solo makes it through next week, she will find herself juggling soccer and dancing once more.

The weekly grind of “Dancing with the Stars” already is taking its toll on Hope Solo, but things are about to get more intense for the former Huskies goalkeeper.

Solo was among 30 soccer players called up Thursday by U.S. women’s head coach Pia Sundhage for a Nov. 17 friendly against Sweden.

The team is slated for two weeks of training ahead of the match at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz.

Assuming she gets through the next round on “Dancing with the Stars” – and that’s a big assumption – that means two weeks of training with the team by day and rehearsing with Maksim Chmerkovskiy by night.
 ::snipping2::
Before Week 2 of “Dancing with the Stars,” Chmerkovskiy traveled with Solo to Portland to rehearse as she prepared for a friendly against Canada.

“To go from soccer training in the morning to rehearsals in the afternoon, it’s very, very difficult,” Solo said at the time.

On the show immediately following that friendly, Solo and Chmerkovskiy scored 19 points for their jive, performed to Avril Lavigne’s “Girlfriend.” It was their lowest score of the season.

That might not bode well for Solo. She is among the bottom tier of dancers remaining on the show, along with Nancy Grace and David Arquette.

In recent weeks, Solo has appeared close to her breaking point, growing frustrated with the judges and letting her competitive nature get the best of her.
 ::snipping2::
During Week 6, she and Chmerkovskiy turned in what one judge called their “worst dance of the whole season.”

On the flip side, the turn on the soccer pitch might boost her public image, which could translate to more votes on “Dancing with the Stars.”

Meanwhile, as Solo’s obligations to two teams mount, one obligation vanished Thursday when Women’s Professional Soccer decided to terminate her franchise. The owner of the Boca Raton, Fla.-based magicJack had been accused by the league of violations ranging from “unprofessional and disparaging treatment of his players to failure to pay his bills.”

Solo and Abby Wambach, the two biggest stars of the World Cup for the United States, were on the magicJack roster.

Carrie Ann Inaba takes to Twitter to defend "DWTS" judges

(CBS) "Dancing With the Stars" judge Carrie Ann Inaba is the only judge with a Twitter account and this week she decided to use it to answer critics  of Season 13's controversial Broadway Week.
For those who missed the drama, Inaba and fellow judge Len Goodman were critical of star Hope Solo. When Maksim Chemerkovskiy, Solo's partner, tried to get the audience to boo, Goodman fought back saying, "Half the fault is yours."

This comment led Chemerkovskiy on a rant, explaining he had been dancing professionally for years and that he was tired of the inconsistent judging. "With all due respect, this is my show. I help make it what it is," he said, inciting controversy over the judging.

The next night, he said he misspoke when he called it "my show," but did not apologize for any of this other comments.

Inaba tweeted statements right after the Monday's show, trying to clear the air.

"FYI: Everyone has different abilities on DWTS," she tweeted. "Every journey is unique to each contestant and everyone's ten looks slightly different. Another FYI: I forgive you because you don't know better- scores are locked in before we speak. So we have scored before any words spoken."

Thank you Muffy for the info.   Now, here is my cynical side;

Hope can now forever say she intentionally got voted off because her first allegence was to the sport.   Oh well...

But I do wonder how her body will be able to go from offensive and forceful to supportive and graceful.    Muscle memory can take over.  I will be so glad when my three year lazy muscle memory remembers what it once was

Hi Muffy & Monkey's,

I hope you will not mind me answering the question on muscle memory.  I just asked a teacher friend of mine this queston a
few days ago.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muscle_memory

For the term "muscle memory" as related to strength training, see Muscle memory (strength training).

Muscle memory has been used synonymously with motor learning, which is a form of procedural memory that involves

consolidating a specific motor task into memory through repetition. When a movement is repeated over time, a long-term

muscle memory is created for that task, eventually allowing it to be performed without conscious effort. This process decreases

the need for attention and creates maximum efficiency within the motor and memory systems. Examples of muscle memory are

found in many everyday activities that become automatic and improve with practice, such as riding a bicycle, typing on a

keyboard, playing a melody or phrase on a musical instrument, playing video games,[1] or performing different algorithms for a

puzzle cube.

Thank you all for being kind.

Cookie, I too have two adult sons.  And let me tell you...they are very clear about their boundaries.  As an example the 21 year old broke down on the side of a very rural freeway in the middle of the night on his way to work.  After an hour of searching I went to his work to see if he had made it only to learn he had been sent to another location for training in a small town and the search continued with me going to the next location,  he was not there, the Highway Patrol helped me, etc......it was practical and necessary but he was embarrassed.   Seems as I drove around including back roads, my son had taken his gps system and ended up in fields, side roads, the freeway, etc.   I just could not find him.  He walked over 12.5 miles and called me from work when he finally arrived.  He swears I ruined his reputation.
 I think the only reason he is speaking to me now is because I have the car and have agreed to transport him to and from work until he finds a reliable car he can afford.    Monkey Devil!

Terri...I remember when you told us about your son and his car problem..good thing he used his GPS!
My hubs 90 yr old mother, she was about 85 at the time, called my hubs work one morning to see if he had made it into work because of the snow! she told his secretary not to tell him that she had called to check on him but of course she did tell him and everyone else and there was a chuckle around the office at hubs expense..he was so pizzed..!

Chaz Bono has 'no hard feelings' about 'DWTS' elimination: It was a 'life changing experience'
October 28, 2011

Adam Taylor, Craig Sjodin/ABC
Chaz Bono said Friday that 'Dancing with the Stars' was 'an amazing life changing experience.'

Chaz Bono doesn't hold a grudge.

The 42-year-old former "Dancing with the Stars" contestant might have seemed angry when he was booted from the show Tuesday, but Friday he spoke out and had only nice things to say.

"I have absolutely no hard feelings about #DWTS," Bono tweeted. "It was an amazing life changing experience, and a blast. I support my cast mates to the end!"

It seems as though he's had a chance to calm down.

During a Wednesday morning appearance on "Good Morning America," Bono took the "DWTS" judges to task for their harsh criticism of his weight.

"I was called a basketball, a penguin, an Ewok, and I just didn't appreciate it," Bono said, nothing that Bruno Tonioli in particular was "disrespectful."
 ::snipping2::
Still, Cher’s son admitted that he had a pretty good time filming the dance competition series.

"I really had fun dancing and I was a lot better than I thought I would be,"
Bono said after he was eliminated.

In fact, dancing could become a permanent part of his life

"[I'd do Broadway] in a hot second," he said. "If Broadway comes knocking, please. I'd be very happy to do anything. I'd love this experience.

Oh cookie!!!  I love it.   85 and still a mother!!  I know that will be me, much to the chagrin of my boys.

I saw a talk show more than 20, maybe 25 years ago so I do not know which show it was or what it was about, but I do remember there were three or four adult brothers sitting on the stage.   They said that even at their age, as they walk out the door, their mother yells "take care of the baby"....

Isn't it funny to compare the types of mothers we have known ( or are ) and the ones we see on the news?
