This story seems to be saying that there was a long delay in getting a doctor to the scene. Whether or not a timely response would have made a difference is likely to be a big issue. Snorkler injured by rock throwers  

WILLEMSTAD – A Dutch tourist was injured by a rock that was thrown from the coast, while he was snorkeling at Vaersenbaai on Saturday afternoon.  He was tended to on board of the boat that took the snorklers out to sea and is doing better by now.  The suspect was with a group of boys that from the coast were throwing rocks.    

The victim and his partner that are staying in the Marriott Hotel decided to go on a snorkeling trip with the Caribbean Sea Sports.  The snorklers did hear splashes and thought at first that one of the snorklers wanted to draw attention by splattering the water.  But the splashes turned out to be rocks being thrown from the more than 10 meter high rocky coast.  One of the rocks hit the snorkler in question on the head.  The captain of the boat that was keeping an eye on the snorklers took immediate action, by hauling the victim on board and taking care of the wound.  It could have been much more serious.    

The victim and his partner do not blame the incidents on the diving school, but “we want them to carry a good impression of the island along, so we offered them a free introductory dive and a boat trip to Kenepa”.

After the incident, Caribbean Sea Sports called the police and coastguard, but didn’t get much cooperation with these.  All the boys that were throwing rocks were wearing red shirts.  The diving school hopes to use this in order to run down the rock throwers.

Trade mission to attract Chinese tourists  

ORANJESTAD – The most important objectives of an Aruban trade delegation that went to Beijing this week is the attraction of tourists and the establishment of an international commercial center with high-quality Chinese products, here in Aruba .  

Prime Minister Nelson Oduber, Minister Nilo Swaen of Economic Affairs and Finance, and Agustin Vrolijk, director of Foreign Relations Administration are part of the delegation.  Other members of the delegation are:  Myrna Jansen, director of Aruba Tourism Authority, Peter Steinmetz of Aruba Airport Authority, Alfonso Boekhoudt of Aruba Ports Authority, Greg Peterson of Free Zone Aruba, Frendsel Giel of Aruba Investment Bank, Rien Schoon of Aruba Stevedoring Company, Gideon Blaauw of Ernst & Young and businessman René Kan.  

The delegation stays in Beijing for one week.  They will talk to the Chinese aviation authorities.  The young nouveau riche of China is very fond of traveling and the market is very large.  The delegation will also talk to tour operators and travel agents.

Vrolijk says that China is interested in establishing a commercial center in Aruba for the region and for South-America.  Up till now, Dubai is the only country that has such commercial center.  Aruba would love to welcome such commercial center especially in the Free Zone.  Aruba is thinking of high-quality high-tech products.  

The delegation will talk with harbour authorities in Shanghai about ocean transportation.  The programme is put together by the Chinese trade delegation that was in Aruba for orientation conversations a few months ago.  

The delegation will also visit an elementary school.  A large number of elementary schools are going to represent the participating countries in the Olympic Games in Beijing .  To participate, the schools need to have sufficient information about the countries in question.  The delegation returns to Aruba via Amsterdam on Sunday, June 24th.  The group will arrive in Aruba on Tuesday morning.

My feelings of Aruba exactly, but i didn't find the locals at all welcoming. But that was just one day a year and a half ago. I will not be returning ever.  

We are cruising in Nov. and going to St. Kitts and Nevis.  So beautiful there.

i think many feel the same way about never returning and other will never go...because of this travesty.....PS: we love st. kitts/nevis
