Aliayah Lunsford Still Missing; Law Enforcement Share Message Regarding Community Involvement
Last Updated on Tuesday, 24 January 2012 21:08 Written by Katie Lusso Tuesday, 24 January 2012 20:23

Tuesday marked four months since Aliayah Lunsford was first reported missing from her Bendale home.

Just recently Lewis County community members wrote a letter to law enforcement.  They asked for answers in regards to little Aliayah's disappearance, but officers say in serious cases there's only so much they can release with out putting the case in jeopardy.

In the Lunsford case, no suspects have been named but investigators say there are "persons of interest".  They stress that the investigation is far from over.  Her case is highly sensitive, and has drawn a lot of emotion from people around the world.  Officers say that making threats or bribing someone to tell you information could actually do more harm than good.

While you might be trying to help and have good intentions, officers say there are some things you need to be aware of.

"Try not to take on the investigative role. If you think someone has valuable information give it to law enforcement.  Definitely don't try to get the person to give you the information, because we may not be able to use that information if it's not obtained correctly in the investigation and more importantly later on in court.  We may not be able to use it because of the hearsay rule," says Trooper A.S. Loudin with West Virginia State Police.

It started with Watergate.  Now every would-be internet sleuth is trying to pull a Woodward-Bernstein.  What is scary is the danger that they are putting themselves in as well as endangering the validity of any potential evidence they may obtain.

Searchers said they still need money and supplies including ink cartridges, envelopes, paper, food and drinks, gas cards, warm gloves and socks and cleaning supplies. The printing materials are for fliers and search information sheets, volunteers said,

"We will keep it open until Aliayah is found," Aliayah's Army Volunteer Sherry Toms Kyer said. "We will keep it going one way or the other."

Volunteers said they welcomed Aliayah's mother Lena Lunsford "with open arms" last week when she visited the command center.

Suspicious Finding in Bendale Dam Prompts Water Search for Aliayah Lunsford
Written by Karilynn Galiotos
Posted February 28, 2012, Updated February 29, 2012

A dive team was out searching in a dam near Aliayah Lunsford's Bendale home after volunteers in a search group say they found something in the water.

Aliayah's Army has continued the volunteer searches of the area after PPP Recovery left. On Tuesday, members were sent out around 10:30 a.m. to clear some more areas, including the Bendale dam, which is behind the former home of Aliayah's parents, Lena and Ralph Lunsford.

The volunteers have been following leads and searching certain areas for the past few weeks. They say this dam has been a point of interest because it's so close to where Aliayah disappeared.

Volunteers had the dam lowered so they could take out a boad and an underwater camera. They found "something" around 2:30 Tuesday afternoon.

New Developments In Search for Aliayah Lunsford
Posted February 28, 2012, Updated February 29, 2012

 ::snipping2::
Members of Aliayah's Army, a group of family members and community volunteers, said they were searching the West Fork River near the Bendale Dam when an underwater camera caught some suspicious images.

They sent divers into the water, but it had become too murky to locate the object.

They pulled the divers out, and said bad weather will prevent them from going back in Wednesday.

Members of Aliayah's Army said they'll go back to the area when the weather allows, and won't stop until they are sure nothing is there.

"So we're going to go back and clear it 100 percent," said Kathy Stover, Co-Incident Commander with Aliayah's Army. "We want to be able to say when we leave an area that we are 100 percent sure Aliayah's not there. And so that is our goal, and that's where we're going to continue."

The pain in this beautiful baby's face breaks my heart.

I am extremely thankful for the volunteers who refuse to give up on Aliayah.  May her spirit be at peace and those who hurt her get some compense here in our world and even in the afterlife.

Thank you for the updates Muffy.

I have read that Aliayah's grandmother passed away at 1:15 this morning. I have checked TV stations and newspapers but could not find a link there. It was posted on Aliayah's Army FB page. Hope this link works.

New Sign on Route 19 for Aliayah Lunsford
Created March 6, 2012, Updated March 7, 2012

Volunteers are still looking for missing 3-year-old Aliayah Lunsford and there's a new sign alerting you to her disappearance.

Yard sales and donations paid for signs that were going to be put up along the highway. After getting things worked out, the signs are now being placed in different locations.

The one that is up now is on Route 19 North in the Jane Lew area next to Redneck Riviera.

The details are being worked out about another one that will be put.

Community Members Hold Vigil for Aliayah Lunsford
Written by Fallon Pierson
Created March 24, 2012, Updated March 25, 2012

Today marks the six month anniversary of missing toddler Aliayah Lunsford.  Friends and family gathered in front of the Weston Department of Highways to hold a candlelight vigil.  They prayed and sang for Aliayah's safe return.
 ::snipping2::
Lena Lunsford released a statement yesterday, saying that she doesn't think Aliyah wandered off or was taken by a blood relative.

She says she believes her to be alive and is praying for her.  However, Lena was not present at today's vigil.

The F.B.I. says they will be holding a press briefing sometime this upcoming week.

Aliayah Lunsford’s vanishing still a mystery after 6 months
March 23, 2012

 ::snipping2::
Authorities have said they are treating Aliayah's disappearance as a crime, but they've named no suspects, made no arrests and refused to say what they think happened.

Neither the State Police nor the Lewis County Sheriff's Department responded to messages Friday.

FBI spokesman Bill Crowley acknowledged public interest in the case but would not comment on the investigation. He said the FBI will likely hold a news conference next week to bring the public up to date.

In a hearing related to the fraud charges last fall, however, Ralph Lunsford suggested he's been the focus of at least some scrutiny. He told a judge he'd "been questioned by authorities day after day for the last month or two."

He has repeatedly declined to speak to the media.
