hmm...so, LE has to determine exactly what day someone outside of the family actually saw this child.  She could've been gone for days before the initial report.

was going to post the same thing! who knows when this child disappeared? she could have been missing for some time before mom reported her missing. Have the older children been questioned?
Can you imagine how this abuser has probably threatened those kids up to the day that they were taken away.  They're probably scared to death.
Take this with a grain of salt, but early on, on the FB page to help find Jhessye, a family member stated that the older kids were told to clean the back yard (how big could it be in an apartment?) and that Jhessye was "locked in" the house while mother dearest ran errands. The kids in the backyard also had no way to "enter the house"....I will try to find the post again, so I can back up what I read. But either way, I think the truth will come out and hopefully soon.

Relative Doubts Mom of Missing Jhessye Shockley

The great aunt of an Arizona girlmissing for almost a month said Tuesday that she is beginning to suspect that the child’s mother could be responsible for her disappearance.

Brenda Hunter told KNXV that she still supports her niece, Jerice Hunter, but she is concerned by reports that the mother of 5-year-old Jhessye Shockley has not taken a lie detector test. Relatives also told the station that Jerice has not answered their phone calls for two weeks.

Jerice Hunter reported Jhessye missing on October 11 after she claimed the girl disappeared from herGlendaleapartment while she was out running an errand. Police have not identified any suspects in the case.

Asked if she believed Jerice had anything to do with Jhessye’s disappearance, Brenda said, “To be honest with you, I’m just going to be straight out, yes I do.”

She suggested the possibility that Jerice “hit her too hard and just didn’t realize it, you know, and then won’t admit it.”

Brenda Hunter also questioned why Jerice is not out actively searching for Jhessye.

“I would be out here night and day, marching, looking for my child,” she said. “And she’s not behaving like a mother would, being that her child is missing.”

Relatives have told KNXV that Jerice is scheduled to take a lie detector test on Thursday, but police denied that claim. ::snipping2::

Mom of missing Jhessye: 'I'm a good mother'

GLENDALE, AZ (KPHO) -

Jerice Hunter insists she's a good mother despite her past conviction and four-year prison stint for child abuse.

"I'm not going to condone my behavior in the past," said the mother of missing 5-year-old Jhessye Shockley in the second installment of an exclusive interview with Hunter. "I did spank my daughter and I felt like afterwards, 'Yes, I did go overboard.'"
 ::snipping2::

Court records show Hunter was accused of using an extension cord and belt to discipline her older children, leaving bruises and open wounds.  The Glendale mother says she did it to keep her kids on the straight and narrow.

"I come from a culture to where if you're stealing from people, they will kill you, they will hurt you."

Hunter admits that when she looks back on using a belt and an extension cord that "was severe."

"But that's the way I was raised," she said. "And I have learned since then that just because I was raised a certain way does not mean that's necessarily the best way to raise my children."  ::snipping2::

Glendale police 'hopeful' Jhessye will be located alive

le police released the following statement on the investigation.

It's very important to the Glendale Police Department to reassure the community that our investigators are still working every day, diligently, on the disappearance of 5-year-old Jhessye Shockley from her Glendale home on October 11, 2011. We are encouraging anyone listening, no matter where you reside, to be hyper-aware of your surroundings. It's important to look for and report anything out of the ordinary involving a 5-year-old black child near where they live, work or shop; something that's different than what might have been occurring just prior to Jhessye being reported missing 35 days ago. Investigators need to hear from you.

The investigators and other support personnel working this case are still hopeful that law enforcement will locate Jhessye alive, and our commitment hasn't wavered in the least. Although we cannot speak to specifics of our investigation, if and when we have new information that would be useful to the community and would not compromise our investigation, we will come forward with it. We continue to encourage anyone with any information that might help us find Jhessye to call 480 WITNESS or 911.

Me too.  I'm so sick and tired of all these missing children cases.  And despite the mother's horrid past, my gut tells me that the little girl wandered off while her mom was off running errands and fell into the hands of a truly evil person.  JMOO in this case.

Mother of missing Ariz. girl Jhessye Shockley arrested on child abuse charges
November 21, 2011

(CBS/AP) GLENDALE, Ariz. - Police said Monday they've arrested the mother of a missing 5-year-old Arizona girl on child abuse charges.

Jerice Hunter was arrested on child abuse charges "directly related to Jhessye," Glendale Police Sgt. Brent Coombs said. Jhessye Shockley has been missing since Oct. 11.

Coombs said Monday investigators don't believe they'll find the girl alive and that Hunter "is our No. 1 focus."

Hunter's apartment was surrounded by police tape Monday as investigators in white jumpsuits searched inside. Police declined to say what investigators were doing.

Police have previously said they believe Shockley wandered from her Glendale apartment while Hunter was running an errand. The girl's three older siblings were the last to see her.

Police have repeatedly said they had no evidence, suspects or promising leads.

Meanwhile, state Child Protective Services removed Hunter's four other children, including a newborn, from her home but have declined to give a reason. Police have also said they had no involvement in that decision.

Hunter has come under scrutiny during the investigation for an October 2005 arrest with her then-husband George Shockley in California on child abuse charges. She pleaded no contest to corporal punishment and served about four years in prison before she was released on parole in May 2010.

Hunter's oldest child, 14 at the time, told police that his mother routinely beat the children.

Jhessye Shockley Missing: Mother Frustrated With Lack of Media Attention on Ariz. Girl's Case
Glendale Mom's Abusive Past to Overshadow Investigation Into Toddler's Whereabouts?
October 27, 2011

 ::snipping2::
The family has expressed dissatisfaction with the progress of the investigation, as well as the lack of attention the case has been receiving in the mainstream media and suggested that this might be due to an element of racial insensitivity.

Some have expressed suspicion of Hunter, who was sentenced to eight years in a California prison in 2006 for child abuse. According to a court document, the charges included the torturing of her 7-year old daughter and the infliction of physical injuries on her other children.

The document also included a psychological evaluation of Hunter, which found: "Ms. Hunter will need a spectrum of psychological treatment services." It also suggested: "She will need to acquire some anger management tools in general. She will need a series of parenting classes to help her acquire more healthy and productive methods of disciplining and for caring for her children."
According to abc15.com in Arizona, Hunter faced prosecution when, in 2005, the children's grandmother decided to call police after spotting a cut on her 13-year-old granddaughter's leg. Three other children in the home were also suffering from injuries to their bodies.

In Jan. 2006, in exchange for a no-contest plea, prosecutors dropped torture charges against Hunter and she began serving her time in prison.

She appealed her sentence but was denied by the courts. It is unclear why she is free today.
 ::snipping2::
Hunter scolded the media Monday, at a public gathering for her daughter, for focusing too much on her past and not on finding her daughter. "We feel that law enforcement is not active in finding Jahessye and that they're more active in persecuting me instead of finding out where she is," Hunter said, according to the AP. Hunter can just shut her pie hole, because now she's back in jail where she belongs.  JMHO

Jerice probably wishes grandma would just shut her mouth.

I wonder if she's had that poor child in that apt all this time?
