Mother of missing 5-year-old has criminal history
Quote
Hunter pleaded no contest to four counts of causing injuries to her children. In the words of the California trial court that heard this case, the records state Hunter "never ever should have had children."

In October 2005, the children's grandmother called police after she noticed a cut on her 3-year-old granddaughter's leg. Three other children in the home also had cuts and scars on their bodies.
Records show Hunter's 14-year-old son told police she had repeatedly punched him and whipped him with sticks over a two-year period.
Police said Hunter's husband -- a registered sex offender -- also participated in the abuse by holding one of the children down.

In January 2006, prosecutors dropped torture charges against Hunter in exchange for a plea of no contest. Hunter's lawyers asked for probation, but the state's probation department said she was a threat to the well being of her children. Hunter was sentenced to eight years in prison.

   This is not going to turn out good, imo.
SO WHY in hell did this woman have these kids in her house? Where was the 5 year old born, in prison? She sure as hell didn't serve the 8 years!

GLENDALE, AZ - Despite canceling an Amber Alert for missing 5-year-old Jahessye Shockley, Glendale police are continuing what they called a “behind the scenes investigation.”

After a two-day search, police on Friday scaled back and removed their massive mobile command center from the corner of Glendale and 45th avenues.

Instead, detectives were seen roaming the neighborhoods, including the Autumn Leaves Apartments where Jahessye went missing.

ABC15 was there when detectives knocked at the apartment where Jahessye and her mother Jerice Hunter live.

I really hope those older kids open up to LE and tell what they know.  Something happened in that home, imo.

What kind of messed up philosophy is that? Jesus, these DFACS people really p me off

On another note, it looked in the video up stream of the "mother" that she had bruises on her face. One was below her right eye on her cheek bone area......

Her uncle, Johnny Johnson, said Hunter has had enough with media exposure since young Jahessye was reported missing Tuesday afternoon .

According to Johnson, Hunter is in desperate need of rest after days without sleeping and eating.

“She’s not a mean person,” he added.

 ::snipping2::
Somia Abdelgdir, through a translator, said detectives asked her about the day Jahessye went missing.

Abdelgdir, who lives in the apartment across the way, said she helped Hunter look for Jahessye shortly after she realized the little girl was missing.

Abdelgdir drove Hunter, who is eight months pregnant, around the neighborhood and remembers Hunter crying and being stressed out.

Grandmother of missing Glendale girl speaks with ABC15

    By: Angie Holdsworth

GLENDALE, AZ - The grandmother of a 5-year-old Glendale girl who has been missing since Tuesday is revealing new details about the family.

Shirley Johnson, Jhessye Shockley's grandmother, spoke with ABC15 Monday and said she feels like she is being kept in the dark about the investigation.

"You know as much as I do and you are not even a relative," she said.

Johnson said that her daughter Jerice Hunter, who is Jhessye's mother, is pregnant and on bed rest.

Johnson said police have removed three other children from the family's home near 45th Avenue and Glendale and placed them in foster care.

"I don't know where they are," she said. She said she feared that the separation is just another distraction to finding the girl.

 ::snipping2::
Johnson said she is convinced that someone took Jhessye and is holding out hope that she will see her again. She said she is putting up her own money as a reward for information.

GLENDALE, AZ - Glendale police could soon be searching the city's landfill for a missing 5-year-old girl.

Police say they've been checking out every tip, but none has led them to find little Jhessye Shockley.

Jhessye's mother reported her missing around 5 p.m. on Tuesday, October 11.
 ::snipping2::
Meanwhile, Silent Witness and the City of Glendale are offering a combined $11,000 reward to help find Jhessye.

Coombs said investigators worked through the weekend to examine every interview, every tip, and every contact during the search for the little girl.

"Detectives are continuing to work diligently on the safe return of Jhessye Shockley," Coombs said.

Grandmother explains why CPS took children from home of missing Glendale girl

Read more: http://www.abc15.com/dpp/news/region_west_valley/glendale/Grandmother-explains-why-CPS-took-children-from-home-of-missing-Glendale-girl#ixzz1bMI99TN7

http://www.abc15.com/dpp/news/region_west_valley/glendale/Grandmother-explains-why-CPS-took-children-from-home-of-missing-Glendale-girl

ABC15 was told Hunter stayed home Wednesday night, while Jhessye’s grandmother, Shirley Johnson, and others try to keep the girl’s memory alive.

 ::snipping2::
Johnson admits finding her missing 5-year-old granddaughter isn't even her biggest concern.

 ::snipping2::
Earlier this week, CPS took Jhessye's three siblings out of the home.

“They said one kid is not eating, the other kids are just distraught,” Johnson said.

“CPS took the kids and said they were in danger,” Johnson explained.

Johnson said CPS won't give her any specific details. But, ABC15 uncovered court documents that show Jhessye's mother has a criminal history that includes child abuse.

 ::snipping2::
“It's her race and it isn't their child and she doesn't have blue eyes and blonde hair,” Johnson said.

Glendale Police Officer Tracey Breeden said that's absolutely not true.

Police said they no longer think the little girl wandered out of her home.

On Wednesday, they upped the reward to $11,000 dollars.  That’s on top of the $5,000 dollar reward offered by Jhessye’s grandmother.

JVM on HL news had an interview with a family member that described Jahessye as not being herself and seeing marks on her. She went on to imply that she thought Jahessye was being abused in the Mother's house..........big surprise there

Jhessye Shockley's cousin says missing child was abused

(video at the link also)

Posted: 10/21/2011

 ::snipping2::

Lisa Vance, from Glendale, says she helped raise Jhessye for four years while Jhessye's mother was in prison.

She tells ABC15 Jhessye was an intelligent girl with dreams of becoming a ballerina.

"You cannot help but love her. I miss everything about her," Vance said.

Jerice Hunter, Jhessye's mother, has a record of child abuse , and was sentenced to jail in California back in 2006. Vance says Hunter took Jhessye back last year when she was released.

"We did not give her back willingly," Vance said. "We didn't think Jerice was ready. She needed to get to know Jhessye. Jhessye was two weeks old when she left."

Vance, who does not have contact with Hunter anymore, alleges Hunter abused Jhessye.

"Absolutely," she said. "At our functions, and get-togethers, Jhessye was not herself. I've seen marks that led me to believe she was being abused in Jerice's home."
