Joran van der Sloot to plead guilty?

I hope they don't accept his pleas if that's what the plan is.

It wasn't just robbery and simple homicide.

That's not Justice for Stephany.

Thanks Grace.

Could it be that by pleading guilty to the lesser charges put forward by the prosecutor at the getgo ... Joran will avoid a trial ... a trial that could possibly result higher charges as implied by the family attorney?

Joran van der Sloot indicted on murder and robbery

Van der Sloot's defense attorney Luis Jimenez Navarro tells In Session this was a big win for his client. If Van der Sloot is found guilty and sentenced to the maximum penalty, under Peru's jail reduction credits, he may only serve a third of the time.

The Flores family remains hopeful this will not be the case. An attorney for the family tells In Session under the Peruvian justice system the charges could change once the trial begins.

"We can ask the Prosecutor to modify the indictment as new facts come out during the trial, but on the first day of trial we expect Van der Sloot to plead guilty to both charges. It seems this will be in his best interest,“ the attorney said.

Joran feared to design
by John van den Heuvel

LIMA - The Prisons Service in Peru prepares for a transfer Joran for the dreaded Challapalcagevangenis, also known as the "Siberia of Peru" mentioned.

 ::snipping2::

The infamous Challapalcagevangenis lies in a desolate, barely accessible area near the border with Bolivia. The prison stands next to a military base, at an altitude of 4500 meters, and to the icy climate or the "Siberia of Peru" mentioned.

During the trial, in which Van der Sloot on the advice of his attorney fails to appear very likely, given the Dutchman also told that the United States last month a formal request for extradition have done. The Americans want to sue Joran at home scams on the Holloway family. Justice in the U.S. is negotiating with Peru to him immediately after his trial in Lima to America and try him there.

After the American Joran process would then be returned to Peru to where his sentence for the murder of Stephany to sit. Subsequently, Van der Sloot therefore probably a year long sentence in America to undergo.

Joran sent to Peru’s Siberia
Dutchman Joran van der Sloot, who is being held in Peru for the murder of Peruvian woman Stephany Flores, can expect a couple of unpleasant surprises, writes De Telegraaf. The prison authorities have requested a transfer from the notorious prison in Lima to the even more notorious Challapalca prison.

This prison lies at an altitude of 4,500 meters in an inhospitable region near the Bolivian border - Peru’s Siberia. There is a little light at the end of the tunnel. When his trial - which begins tomorrow - ends, he will return to Lima to sit out what is expected to be a long sentence.

In addition, the US authorities have officially filed for his extradition for the extortion of the parents of US teenager Natalee Holloway who disappeared over five and a half years ago. So once he has sat out what is expected to be a long sentence, he can look forward to a taste of American justice.

I'm picturing Joran in a freezing cold cell in Callapalca prison.    This is a far cry from lolling around poolside and at the beach with a smirk on his face.   If Joran gets moved to Callapalca prison, wouldn't this possibly make it more costly, time consuming and all around more difficult for visitors or even media to go there?

Lima ready for Joran van der Sloot trial
Published on : 5 January 2012 - 4:17pm

The trial of Dutchman Joran van der Sloot in the Peruvian capital Lima is scheduled to begin on Friday. The 24-year-old is on trial for the murder and robbery of Stephany Flores. If found guilty, he faces a 30-year prison sentence.

Right up until the last minute the parents of the murdered woman tried to get the charges changed to “premeditated murder”, so he would be put away for life. The court, however, has rejected their requests.

At 10 a.m. local time, the trial will convene in a court room of the former Lurigancho prison, where Van der Sloot has been held on remand since his arrest in June. This jail, which used to hold gangsters, terrorists and political prisoners, has now been renamed the San Pedro prison.

The trial is being seen as one of the many cases against serious criminals. As a result, the gutter press has gone to town on the “monster of Holland” story, while the serious media have given the case little or no coverage.

Premeditated murder
Van der Sloot has admitted to picking the 21-year-old Stephany Flores up in a casino in Lima and killing her in May 2010. He could be jailed for 28 years for the killing. For taking the young woman’s credit cards and money, the court may add another two years.

Under the Peruvian legal system Van der Sloot could be released from prison after sitting out one third of his sentence, so the parents of the victim tried to force the Public Prosecution Office to charge him with premeditated murder.

Unlawful deportation?
A possible complication in the trial is the role Chile played in the case. Immediately after the killing, Van der Sloot fled in a car to Peru’s southern neighbour, where he was soon arrested and deported back to Peru. His lawyer Aldo Cotrino – who operates from New York – says the deportation was unlawful and “contravened human rights”.

A few weeks ago, he filed a complaint against the Chilean authorities at the Inter-American Commission for Human Rights in Washington, demanding 13 million US dollars in compensation.

Grace

If Joran van der Sloot pleads guilty to the lesser charges tomorrow ... the lesser charges brought forward by the Peruvian prosecution ... serving ten years out of a thirty year sentence cannot be considered real justice for Stephany.  Thankfully ... the extortion charges await in the States at the end of that period.

FLORES FAMILY SAY JORAN LIVES LIKE KING

Stepahany Flores was murdered on 30 May in a hotel room, which hosts the Dutch Joran Van derSloot. Who is the prime suspect in the death of the young.

Everything indicates that the murderer would derSloot Van Stephany, because a video shows that he was the last to see her alive and enter the room where he was brutally murdered.

However, the family of the victim shows his great reproach to the Peruvian justice system, noting that Joran lives "like a king in jail."

"It is shameful what happens in prisons. I think the INPE has to give the same treatment to all criminals," said Ricardo Flores outraged father of the girl killed.

He added that it's been six months since the detention of the Dutch and "until this day refuses to give his statement to the judge," he said to a local television station in Lima.

"Unfortunately it seems that there are laws in Congress to protect the criminal, not to try and sentence them." Flores said indignantly.
