Joran van der Sloot in Lima Friday for Judge
Sunday, January 1, 2012, 4:06 p.m.

And a half years after the murder of Peruvian Stephany Flores Friday begins the trial of the Dutch suspect Joran van der Sloot. The prosecutor in Lima was already known that he is 30 years imprisonment claims against the 24-year-old. Justice also wants that Van der Sloot pay a fine of 50,000 euros.

The first hearing in the case of Van der Sloot begins at 10 am local time. The media attention will undoubtedly be very large.

In Peru, the Netherlands and the United States, developments surrounding the murder closely followed. Van der Sloot is not only suspect in the murder of 21-year-old Flores, but was rather too emphatically into view as a suspect of involvement in the disappearance of American teenager Natalee Holloway in Aruba on May 30, 2005, exactly five years before the violent death of Flores. Holloway is still missing trace.

In previous hearings, Van der Sloot confessed that he has slain Stephany Flores in his hotel room in Lima. He would have acted in a violent emotion, after he saw Flores in his laptop looked at documents on the Holloway case. The trial of Van der Sloot is held in the Lurigancho prison in Lima. This detention center is in the same district where the Castro prison is where Van der Sloot in custody.

Grace

Thanks for all the heads ups from Peruvian sources that you afford the Natalee Holloway forum.

Five more sleeps!  I wonder how many more sleeps until a verdict is forthcoming against Joran van der Sloot for the brutal murder of Stephany Flores ... the brutal murder that would not have happened if a corrupt Aruban investigation had not prevented justice from prevailing for Natalee Holloway.

Natalee Holloway Suspect Wanted in Peru
Published: 06/11/2010

LATEST DETAILS FROM CBS NEWS:

NEW YORK (CBS) Joran van der Sloot, the Dutch national who has been detained several times in the Natalee Holloway case, has now been named the prime suspect in the murder of a Peruvian girl, according to local reports.

Crimesider has been told that an Aruban prosecutor described van der Sloot as being on the run, but we have been unable to independently confirm it.

Early Wednesday morning, Stephany Flores Ramirez, 21, was found dead in a hotel room in Peru located on the avenue Miraflores district of Lima, Peruvian newspaper El Comercio reports. According to police reports, the girl was brutally stabbed and was found wrapped in a blanket in a pool of blood.

Ramirez was the daughter of racecar driver and well-known businessman Ricardo Flores.

According to Peruvian police, she was last seen with van der Sloot, who has not been located.

According to the Peruvian newspaper, the hotel room where Ramirez's body was found was registered under van der Sloot's name. Hotel employees also told police that they saw him with the girl over the weekend.

Five years ago, in May 2005, Alabama high school student Natalee Holloway disappeared during a senior class trip to Aruba. She was 18 when she was last seen leaving a bar with Joran van der Sloot, who was 17 at the time. He was detained in the case several times but Aruban authorities have said they don't have enough evidence to charge him.

It was good to read that you had an enjoyable Christmas with your family, especially your grand kids!  Our Christmas season doesn't end until the Three Kings come bringing presents to the Infant Jesus this coming Sunday.  So, I have one more Christmas get-together this coming week--the fourth one!

Now, regarding the verdict for Joran.  It seems that the trial will take anywhere from 6 to 18 months!

Judge Cesar Vega told reporters today that Peruvian laws allow up to six months for murder trial. But legal expert Mario Amoretti tells the Associated Press that in practice, cases like Van der Sloot's can last 18 months.

Joran van der Sloot murder trial to start

Published on 1 January 2012 - 6:41pm

More about: Joran van der Sloot Natalee Holloway Stephany Flores

Dutchman Joran van der Sloot is to go on trial in the Peruvian capital Lima on Friday. He is accused of murdering Stephany Flores in his Lima hotel room on 30 May 2010.

Lima’s Public Prosecutor has announced he will seek a 30-year prison term and a fine of 50,000 euros. The trial, which is expected to attract considerable media coverage, will begin at 10.00 hours local time. The trial will be held in Lima’s Lurigancho prison near the Castro Castro prison where Mr Van der Sloot is on remand.

Questioned by the Peruvian authorities, Mr Van der Sloot admitted killing Ms Flores in his Lima hotel room. He said he acted on a violent impulse when he saw her read documents on his laptop relating to the disappearance of US teenager Natalee Holloway.

The 24-year-old Dutchman is the main suspect in the disappearance Ms Holloway on the Caribbean island of Aruba in May 2005. He has never been charged due to lack of evidence. Ms Holloway was 18 when she went missing. Ms Flores was 21 when she was killed.

6 - 18 months!!!

One more traditional gathering for us too.  It takes place today in Vancouver at the home of one of hubby's sisters  Eldest son, wife and children left with friends this morning for a Mexican vacation so they will be missing.

I must be getting old.  I am looking forward to life returning to normal.  I wish I could blink ... wiggle my nose and ... the Christmas tree and decorations were instantly in their respective bins in the our storage area.

Grace ... I hope your last Christmas gathering goes well next Sunday.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I notice that Aruba continues to call Joran "Dutchman" in their lame attempt to distance from him.  At long last, we will actually see him in a court of law even if for a different crime, one that never would have happened had Aruba done the right thing.

And this trial would have never happened if this crime had been committed in Aruba, Stephany's brutal murder probably would have been ruled suicide.

Hi KTF!  I'm rather surprised because CnC isn't as upscale as Vegas usually does things.  The Flamingo is a dying hotel/casino though IMO and are likely unable to attracted a higher quality nightclub.

Hahahaha both times I've been to Mexico the day has ended at Senor Frogs and/or Carlos and Charlies. Lets just say on my Mexico trip back in February I ended up with no pants at Senor Frogs (which I didn't know TI had one of). This should be great, bring tacky Mexican flare (you don't go for the food you go for the atmosphere) to the Vegas strip. Hopefully they'll hire REAL Mexicans to work it and not some lame white guy trying his best to hold a Mexican accent.

Carlos'n Charlie's is owned by the same company as another premiere Mexican watering hole, Señor Frog's, which is also opening a location in Las Vegas later this year at Treasure Island.
