I could be wrong but ... I suspect that Joran van der Sloot's utter lack of respect to the court on so many level on January 6th and today implies that his guilty plea was a given and Friday's outcome is a given ... a given arrived at prior to the prosecution handing down the charges two months ago that implied a maximum 30 year sentence ... a maximum 30 year sentence that in actuality translates into a much lighter sentence rather than charges that would have demanded a life sentence.

Judged by 3 women.
Priceless.

I hope he gets the maximum time in that hell hole and survives to come to America and die in an Alabama prison.  Then I will be satisfied.
What a POS.

Justice for Natalee.
Justice for Stephany.

VIDEO Family Lawyer Stephany Flores explained that qualify for early termination, Van der Sloot eliminated the possibility of a trial and it can be demonstrated that there was premeditation in the death due to robbery.

Edward Alvarez, a lawyer for the family of Stephany Flores said the Dutchman Joran Van der Sloot to benefit from the legal figure of the early termination eliminated the possibility that trial could prove that there was premeditation in the death due to robbery, which would have merited a life sentence and not just 30 years in prison.

Questioned on that line from the investigation stage of the process, the prosecution has shown "weakness" for having accused of simple homicide and theft when, as he said the police investigation and court of first instance showing that the purpose of Van der Sloot was to take the money from the young Peruvian, but she resisted and killed her. "That in Peruvian law is robbery followed by death, and if she (the prosecutor) had been accused by these facts, we are talking 30 years but not life imprisonment," he told RPP Noticias.

He criticized the attorney holder of the Ninth Criminal Prosecutor's Office, Miriam Zully Castellares Riveros, has dismissed a report establishing that the Dutch police sent to Peru via the mechanism of international judicial assistance, and regretted not be made public because there will be no trial or presentation of witnesses.

He said that this material was referred to wiretapping by court-phones-to two friends of the Dutch, whose talks with Van der Sloot, say explicitly that the latter had no money and Stephany Flores killed because she did not give money.

Thanks Northern Rose

I suspect the Pervian Justice System attempted a balancing act ... a balancing act that would appease a weary Flores' family and ... the court of public attention.  Edward Alvarez' words imply it didn't work.

What prevented the Peruvian prosecutor from handing down the greater charges ... the greater charge that dictated a life sentence?

Van der Sloot Lawyer: "It has to be treated"

 Discuss Jose Luis Jimenez, counsel for the Dutch Joran Van der Sloot, the young offender Stephany Ramirez Flores, said his client is not a psychopath, as we pointed out the defense of the victim, Edward Alvarez.

 "They should analyze the file, it says it is a psychopath. He is a dissocial person has a disease, much of this is related to the persecution suffered for six years by the Holloway case, "he added.

 However, counsel conceded that "obviously" the Dutchman "has to be treated," because a person "who takes the life of another is not clinically well." Jimenez added that Van der Sloot expected to receive a lesser sentence to 30 years requested by prosecutors.

In consultation with his lawyer, Joran has now chosen to agree with the accusation of the prosecutor. Not because he wants to provide clarity to the family of Stephany Flores, and not because he is really sorry, but for the simple reason that the punishment likely will turn out better for him. Maybe he gets just a little less than the required 30 years. And if he ensures that he keeps a low profile during his detention, he was less the case for a reduced sentence and sometimes past midnight on the streets. Well, on the street ...

 Because then begins almost certainly the next chapter in the criminal career of Joran van der Sloot: extradition to the U.S. for extortion of the Holloway family ...

It looks like the courtroom drama is going to continue.  It seems that the defense will appeal to the Supreme Court if the sentence is more than 20 years; the family's lawyer will appeal the sentence if it is less than 28 years.   ::boxingjoran::

Dutchman pleads guilty in Peru murder trial
(AFP) – 5 hours ago

 ::snipping2::
Van der Sloot's lawyer said Wednesday that, had the trial lasted longer, he would have argued that the murder was the result of "an emotional reaction to an extreme psychological shock" linked to numerous articles slandering the Dutchman on the fifth anniversary of Holloway's disappearance, in May 2010.

The accelerated trial means no further mention will likely be made of the Holloway case.

Van der Sloot's rapid admission of guilt will allow him to qualify for an "early termination" of his case, which comes with benefits under Peruvian law such as a reduced sentence and authorized leave from prison.

Had he denied the charges, he would have faced a legal process that could have potentially led to life imprisonment.

The sentence reduction is at the discretion of the court. The Dutchman's lawyer, Jose Luis Jimenez, said the sentence could be lowered from 30 to 20 or even 15 years.

The lawyer for the victim's family, Edwar Alvarez, aimed for a minimal reduction, to 28 or 29 years.

"We'd refuse a sentence of 20 years," Alvarez told journalists.

Van der Sloot pleads guilty to Peruvian woman's murderBy the CNN Wire Staff
January 11, 2012 -- Updated 2007 GMT (0407 HKT)

 ::snipping2::
The Peruvian murder case garnered global attention in part because of the circumstances of the killing, but also because van der Sloot was arrested twice but never charged in the 2005 disappearance of U.S. teenager Natalee Holloway in Aruba.

"I was just happy to see that the Flores family finally got justice," Dave Holloway, Natalee Holloway's father, told HLN's Nancy Grace. "I just hope that on Friday that he gets the proper sentence that he deserves."
 ::snipping2::
Dave Holloway said he was "kind of surprised" that van der Sloot's defense attorney used the Holloway case and the death of van der Sloot's father in an attempt to reduce his sentence, saying they created stress for him.

"He created all this -- if he has any stress -- created all this stress himself," Holloway said. "I just don't buy it."
 ::snipping2::
Dave Holloway said Wednesday he doesn't believe Aruban authorities will ever be able to prosecute van der Sloot in his daughter's disappearance.

"To some extent, you try to hold in your mind that this sentencing coming up Friday will help out, and just knowing he's behind bars will help out," he said. "... You've just got to, you know, take a step back and say, 'He's behind bars and that's probably as good as we're going to get.'"
