on GMA:
parents will not let LE question boys
all family and attorneys are managing to do is duck the tough questions, per LE (says reporter)
boys were to be interviewed by specialist, not LEO
interview with megan wright who got call from one of the cellphones the night Lisa went missing
says she didn't know family, had been through neighborhood before but had never seen Lisa
she doesn't know who called or why.

Thanks Trimm.  I'm glad you found it. because I couldn't.

If the call was made from one of the three cellphones and this Megan person doesn't know DB or JI, then why only one call?  Usually if you mis-dial (which most of us don't because we use the contacts list from the cell phone), the next thing you do is try the call again, hopefully correctly.  But there was only one call.  Could the person calling been calling from memory and then quit because they knew that the calls could possibly be used against them?  Was the person so stressed out that they forgot a number that they use often but had not saved?  That has happened to me.     (only three more days is broom-flying season, I am taking advantage of it)

Think I got it...
I've phone ppl when I didn't know it, by hitting numbers without knowing til later.  How do I know that, was the police I/phone did it on it's own(hehe) , and they stopped by to see what's up.  If I was ok.
Maybe that's what happened?

Good morning Monkey's,

Thank-you, Trimm, for the picture of Megan Wright and the link.

I listened twice, to the snippet with MW, she doesn't know who answered the phone or what was said, (paraphasing).

She mentions her ex BF and her, rode around the neighbor.  It is not clear, when they rode through the area.

Who is the "ex" BF?  TIA

Good morning, Monkeys---I had trouble understanding  what this woman was saying so thank you Seahorse for clarifying.  I know when someone answers the phone in my house.  Of course I live alone so I don't think one of my visitors would answer the phone without my knowing.  It just seems strange to me that she doesn't know who answered the phone.  I hope that LE has questioned everyone in her home and determined who actually did answer the phone and what was said.  This gets more strange by the minute.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The local attorney who had been representing Deborah Bradley and Jeremy Irwin is off the case, her law firm said Friday.

No immediate reason was given for Cyndy Short’s removal, but the McCallister Law Firm said she would be issuing a statement later Friday morning.

Note:  This article was from 10/25, when Cynthia Short was still the Irwin's attorney.

Legal dance with police in Lisa Irwin case is part of the system
October 25, 2011
 ::snipping2::
...defense lawyers and former investigators said that ongoing negotiations between police and attorneys for the parents of a missing 11-month-old girl over the conditions for more interviews are a routine part of the system.

Last week Cyndy Short, a lawyer for Deborah Bradley and Jeremy Irwin, said she was setting boundaries for her clients’ cooperation with police and insisting on ground rules in exchange for additional interviews about the disappearance of Lisa Irwin in early October.

Police have issued public appeals to Bradley and Irwin for separate “unrestricted” interviews to follow up on issues raised at their last formal interrogation on Oct. 8.

Conducting separate interviews is a standard police procedure. Officers even do it at traffic accident scenes, where they pull drivers and witnesses apart to speak to them. So they certainly wouldn’t deviate from the practice in a missing-child case, said Capt. Steve Young, a Kansas City police spokesman.

“We want to know what they have to say on their own,” Young said.

The parents also have refused to allow police to have specially trained social workers reinterview their older children from previous relationships, boys ages 6 and 8 who were at the home when Lisa disappeared.

As a general rule, police do not interview children who are witnesses. Instead, they refer them to a child protection center, where social workers talk to the children. Police are not allowed in the room.

In the Irwin case, social workers talked to one boy for 30 minutes and the other boy for 50 minutes the day Lisa vanished. Police have not been able to send the boys back to the center.

Negotiations between lawyers and police on setting up witness interviews often result in interviews that are less than ideal for both sides, experts said.

Innocent parties may hesitate to be completely honest with police for fear that their statements may be used against them, defense lawyers said.

And with an attorney hovering in the interview room, the interrogation can be stilted and less spontaneous, former investigators said.

“It’s like having a filter between the detective and the person they want to talk to,” said Dave Bernard, a retired Kansas City police homicide detective. “You don’t get a true one-to-one conversation. You have to go through an attorney.”

That tension is a natural part of balancing the rights of those presumed innocent with the obligation of police to vigorously investigate crimes.

“There is a conflict between the role of the police to close a case and bring folks to justice and the rights of the innocent to avoid being railroaded,” said lawyer Dan Ross. “The legitimate purpose of an investigation can be met without threatening a client’s rights against self-incrimination.”

One condition that Short has set on the interviews is that two detectives who previously interviewed Bradley not sit in on any new sessions. That isn’t necessarily a deal-breaker, one former investigator noted.

Retired FBI agent Jeff Lanza said that fresh eyes and a new perspective might make an interview more productive.

“If she trusts someone and would rather speak with them, have at it,” Lanza said. “Let’s throw them in.”

Lanza said the only condition he would reject out of hand is a limitation on a necessary line of questioning.

“What the defense attorney and the couple has to realize is that they are viable suspects in the case,” Lanza said. “Even if they didn’t have anything to do with the disappearance, they are still suspects.”

Defense lawyer Pat Peters said that investigators could consider granting the couple so-called “use” immunity in future interviews. Under such immunity, the subject could not be prosecuted for anything she said during the session unless the investigators could support the charges with information “derived from a legitimate source wholly independent of” what she said during the interview, according to a 1972 Supreme Court ruling.

Without some kind of assurances, Peters said he’d be reluctant to advise Bradley and Irwin to speak with investigators again.

“You want to make sure it’s geared to finding your missing daughter and not so that you can be lambasted again,” Peters said.

But the use of such immunity is relatively rare in the state criminal justice system, Bernard said, and requires the support of prosecutors as well as police.

And investigators would be wary of using immunity unless they already had a clear idea of the subject’s role in the crime, Bernard said. If he was investigating a drive-by shooting, Bernard said he would want to know for certain whether the fellow he was investigating was the driver or the shooter.

“If you’re not sure, the guy could come up and say, ‘Hey, I’m the guy who pulled the trigger,’ and you can’t do anything with it,” Bernard said. “You must be sure about the exact role before you throw the immunity statute at it.”

The world focused intently on the Caylee Anthony murder and it went on for years. The principles in Lisa's case all know the longer it drags out the more likely evidence will erode. Every minute counts and now, weeks have gone by.

Every delay reduces the possibility that Lisa will be found AT ALL.

DB/JI's delay tactics remind me of a patient who simply goes from doctor to doctor until they find one that will tell them what they want to hear.

How many attorneys will DB/JI go through? They must have a local attorney of record.

I'm sure LE has by now talked to the lady who got the call, Meghan Wright. The time of the call is VERY close to the time when the text message was sent saying, "ready when you are". Or, was that message meant for Meghan, too?

Like someone said above, we sometimes dial wrong numbers when trying to remember numbers from memory, or when mentally too involved in something else while dialing, or a number dialed at random to create the impression someone else called a partner-in-crime, or something.

Anyone thinking that maybe Jeremy was having an affair, Debbie found out (cause the phone left behind to be programmed) and she got crazy?

One thing we gotta give credit to, if giving credit in a situation like this is conceivable, that whoever did the crime was smart enough to not leave much evidence behind.

Either that, or the evidence left behind is naturally-occurring in the crime scene.

Just my two cents worth;

I worked as an investigator for child protective services as well as a supervisor.  In that role I not only interviewed children, I was privy to detective interviews.   I honestly do not think I would ever allow that to happen to one of my children.   I have seen too much, know training and personal bias issues, etc.   I was once part of a specialized team and would not trust any of the specialist; not because they were bad people but because they each unknowingly brought personal bias' to the process.   Bias' influenced by personal history, educational experiences, and allegences to certain trains of thought.   Meetings afterward could be a mutual admiration society for a particluar person, or to oppose an opinion would be like world war three.

I have also seen those videos on TV where they bring children to tears and lead them.  I have to turn those shows off.

With all that said, I know I would allow immediate interviews with me behind a glass partition IF I could stop the interview if my child was in distress.  I would then go in, comfort and encourage.   I just could not turn my child over to any "specialist"...seen too much.

I do think the parents are not doing enough, something is off.  But I am torn over the interveiwing of the children.

Neither Short or Tacopina have not responded to repeated requests for comment. Short has not arrived to her Kansas City office as of 9 a.m. Friday.

KCTV5's Jeanene Kiesling asked baby Lisa's parents, Debbie Bradley and Jeremy Irwin, about Short no longer representing them when they returned to a relative's home Thursday night.

"This is the first I've heard of it," Bradley replied. "You know as much as I do."

Short had planned to meet Thursday afternoon with local reporters to discuss the case but abruptly canceled the news conference Thursday morning. Police say Tacopina also scrapped today's interviews by a trained specialists with Lisa's older half brothers.

Lisa's parents called 911 about 4 a.m. Oct. 4 to report that someone had kidnapped their sleeping daughter from her crib in their Northland home.

Has Jersey's image appeared in the media?  If not ... Mike Thompson is not referring to "Jersey" as the person he observed at 4:00 AM the morning baby Lisa was reported missing ... the person carrying an unclothed baby.

Meanwhile a "handyman" nicknamed "Jersey," who was often spotted around Lisa Irwin's neighborhood, is in police custody. "Jersey" was sought by police earlier this week.

He was arrested on an unrelated outstanding warrant.

Police have not charged "Jersey" with a crime, but do say that they are questioning him about Lisa Irwin's disappearance.

Short forced off the baby Lisa case
Posted: Oct 28, 2011 5:16 AM PDT
Updated: Oct 28, 2011 7:39 AM PDT

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) - Cyndy Short, a Kansas City area attorney, is no longer representing the parents of missing baby Lisa Irwin.

Sources tell KCTV5 that Short was forced off the case Thursday. It is unclear Friday whether that came at the direction of Joe Tacopina, a New York attorney.

Tacopina joined the case last week.

Missing Baby Lisa: Interviews with Brothers Canceled, Attorney Dismissed
By CHRISTINA NG
Oct. 28, 2011

An overnight shake-up in the search for missing Missouri 11-month-old Lisa Irwin canceled interviews with her two half-brothers and forced one of the family's attorneys off the case.

Baby Lisa's 5 and 8-year-old brothers had been scheduled to sit down with child specialists today for interviews about the night Lisa disappeared and to have DNA samples collected, but those interviews were abruptly called off Thursday night by the Irwin family's attorney Joe Tacopina.

Tacopina said he would call police next week and reschedule the interview, according to ABC News' Kansas City affiliate KMBC. Attorneys will reportedly still allow DNA samples to be taken from the boys' cheeks.
