Well I have had an eventful afternoon.  Sitting at the kitchen counter writing thank you notes and a taper candle in a candle stick exploded and caught the counter on fire.  Glass was flying, fire was leaping on Christmas cards, etc.  Tried at first to smother the fire, which did not work and then went for the water.  The counter top is ruined and it was just installed a few months ago.  It has scared the beegees out of me.  One thing I know, all four smoke detectors on this level work very well.  I know I am blessed the fire didn't land on me and I got it under control pretty fast.  The scarf, etc. was burned up as well.  But again, it could have been worse.  Not cheap candles so not sure what cause it to explode.  My nerves are shot and I'm going to bed.

How frightening for you Sister!  I'm so glad you were not burned.
I've never heard of a wax taper candle exxploding.  Have you considered notifying the manufacturer?  Thank goodness you were in the room when it happened or it could have been so much worse.
 

Hi Can, I hope Sister contacts the manufacturer. I am glad Sister was in the room as well. So very scary for her.

Hope your Christmas was wonderful. Any snow yet? I was lazy on Monday and meant to wish you a Happy Boxing Day. So I am a few days late, but Happy Boxing Day anyways.

Thank you JSM, Christmas was great.  It was a green Christmas but we do have a bit of snow now.  How thoughtful of you to think of boxing day. I don't go out boxing day anymore.
 Our son and clan were to arrive boxing day, but he cancelled his trip on the 24th  due to illness.  We all spoke to him on the phone.
Our daughter and family left after breakfast boxing day to visit with her in-laws and I had a wonderful afternoon nap.
Any day is a good day for

Good morning Monkeys!

Just finished a lovely little novel.  Grace by Richard Paul Evans.
 
Once an avid reader I seem to do so little anymore.  Often reading puts me to sleep.    I resolve to try and do more in the New Year!

We enjoyed our grandkids over Christmas.  At 3 and 5, they are very entertaining!

Good morning JSM!  How's your Christmas Angel... ? 
His coloring is quite different from Josephs.

Morning Can, my Christmas Angel is just that an  The vet that gave him his shots said his heart and lungs sound really good, his coat is shiny and thats a good thing I guess. She said he is really doing well, didn't know he had already started the heartworm treatment so she was doubly excited about the heart and lung sounds. He is now telling me when he needs to go outside instead of me having to take him out every hour. He even barked at me last night.

His coloring is different than Josefs, he has black patches, where Josef was a solid blue. But the facial markings are just about the same. His real vet after he saw Patton went to the back and told the Pet Lodge manager that he just saw my new dog and IT IS A CLONE!!   

Yes, I think a shiny coat is a sign of health.  So despite Patton's issues, that seems a good sign.  Patton is young and I think he'll do well.
I seem to remember we used to give Serena, our lovely English Setter, olive oil from time to time for her coat.  Rascal always had a nice coat, until she became quite old and it dulled.
Fantastic that Patton is now asking to go out.  Smart doggie!   He is finding his way and I bet he's never had it so good.

I think you are right about the shiny coat, never heard of olive oil, heard of giving them eggs for their coat. Yes, he is now asking to go out even when he doesn't need to go  Little devil.

I agree with you but the stupid stuff keeps showing up every year. The snow he photographed melted soon after - right now we have almost none - but the west side of the state is supposed to be getting about a 6 inches to a foot! Yuck!

Good morning Can.  So good to read things are improving with your family.  You remain in my prayers (I say special prayers for your Mom).
I have had the candles for quite some time and don't even remember where I bought them.  They were shaped like a pine tree with little white blops of wax at the tips like snow.  I had used them for decoration only and thought now was the time to burn them as they were getting a little dusty.  I had a wax catcher on there so I thought it would be safer.  I just thought wrong.  No more fancy candles for me.

Thank you for your prayers Sister.  I shall be seeing my Mom today.

Great description of your candles Sister. 
I use the jar candles most of the time, as I have become more forgetful about extinguishing them.  Read here that they too can be dangerous if burnt too far.  Lesson - burning candles requires caution.

Please be careful with the candles.  I see now they have very realistic ones that run on battery.  I cannot believe some of them are not real.

Well my sisters made treats for the donks for Christmas. You know the rice crispy/marshmallow bars..well they added cherios and bran to the mixture and the guys love them BUT I now am trapped on 60 acres with 4 donks on a sugar high..
