Video of Murdered Hairstylist Released
December 1, 2011

Elizabeth Lightfoot was seen leaving a grocery store two hours before her death on Nov. 4.
December 1, 2011

DALLAS - Dallas detectives have released surveillance video of a hairstylist just before she was killed in hopes of getting new leads
Police said she had spent the evening dining with friends and then stopped at a grocery store around midnight.

They believe the last place she was seen alive was the Tom Thumb store on Preston Road and Belt Line Road.

 ::snipping2::
Lightfoot was wearing a white puffy jacket and had her hair pulled back. She bought ramen noodles and left alone.

Two hours later her burning car was spotted behind a shopping center on Preston Road, less than a mile from the grocery store.

Police said they don’t know what happened or where she went in those two hours. They hope someone will come forward and fill in the time gap.

I recently found out that Elizabeth has family here in town that she visited for festivals and Mardi Gras. Did you notice in the comments of the store video that people were questioning whether that was Elizabeth?

cartfly, if the comments you're referring to were in this article/video we've quoted - they're gone.  Am I looking at the correct comments?  some seem to question various things about the case, but I can't find any questioning if it's Elizabeth in the video.
 I wanted to read those, and want to know if I have the correct video with comments or if they've been removed.  (4 pgs. comments)

Hi Muffy! Yes, I believe the comments were from that article/video link but the comments were indeed gone. One of the comments was from a poster saying she had known Elizabeth for years and that was not her in the video. I will look for other news links that reference the above video footage from the Tom Thumb store to see if I perhaps saw it at another link.

 Questions surround murder of Far North Dallas hairstylist found in burning car

 ::snipping2::
The investigation into Elizabeth Lightfoot’s murder keeps coming back to ramen noodles.

Lightfoot, 22, a stylish Far North Dallas hairdresser and makeup artist, walked into the Tom Thumb grocery store at midnight on Thursday, Nov. 3. She was a bit tipsy after a night of drinking. She deposited $90 into an ATM and bought two packages of ramen noodles.

The security camera showed her getting into her silver Mazda 6 by herself and driving into the night. No one was with her. After that, the trail runs cold, leaving investigators few clues and no solid theory on who left her for dead in her burning car behind a strip center at 16000 Preston Road.

Firefighters responded to the car fire at 1:45 a.m., an estimated hour and forty minutes after she left the Tom Thumb at the corner of Preston and Belt Line. The two locations are 2.3 miles apart.

After the flames were extinguished, Lightfoot’s badly burned body was found in a kneeling position, her torso draped across the center console and her head resting in the passenger seat. It looked as if someone had shoved her into the car and closed the door against her feet.

Wonder if this could be related, not much info yet but another car fire?

http://www.wfaa.com/news/crime/Dallas-firefighters-find-two-bodies-in-burning-car-135832733.html

DALLAS — A routine grass fire in the Red Bird area of Dallas has developed into a double homicide investigation.

Shortly before 5 p.m. Sunday, Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to a report of a fire in a wooded area near Glen Oaks Boulevard and Town Creek Drive.

The first units to arrive found a car on fire. When they extinguished the flames, they found two bodies inside the vehicle.

Dallas police homicide investigators and the medical examiner's office were summoned to the scene.

DALLAS -- The Dallas Medical Examiner’s office has ruled that the death of Elizabeth Lightfoot was an accident.

The ruling by the M.E. reports that she died of smoke inhalation and thermal injury.

Lightfoot’s badly burned body was found in her car behind a strip mall in early November.

We don't have a lot of information, but I find this very strange.  If Elizabeth Lightfoot's death is being ruled as an accident, then there was no crime.     I'd really like to read more about this, including how her car ended up where it was, how and why her car caught fire and etc.

I'm going to leave Elizabeth Lightfoot's case here in "Unsolved Crimes" until we get more information. Her death may have been ruled accidental per the autopsy results, but it doesn't answer a lot of questions imo.  According to the article below, Elizabeth's case "still remains an ongoing investigation."

When asked about the medical examiner's report, Dallas police would only say that the case remains open as an ongoing investigation. A statement from police is expected Monday afternoon.

I thought I read somewhere that gas cans were found in the car. anyone else read that? I'll look around to see where I saw that. I don't buy that this was an accident at all.

It's still an ongoing investigation, so I don't consider this case solved. JMHO

Medical examiner: Hairdresser was drunk before fiery crash
WFAA

Posted on December 19, 2011 at 11:56 AM

Updated today at 7:40 PM

 ::snipping2::
The report attributed Lightfoot's demise to smoke inhalation and thermal injury, adding she was clearly drunk before crashing her car.

"Elizabeth Lightfoot's family is confused and heartbroken with the current ruling by the M.E's office," said family spokesman Blake Lewis.
 ::snipping2::
But sources say the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms were brought in to examine the evidence, and investigators determined Lightfoot crashed her car, and that led to the fire.

The medical examiner also ruled that Lightfoot's blood alcohol level was nearly 0.36 — more than four times the legal limit, and a dangerous level for anyone.

Her family disagrees with the official findings. "I think we continue to believe there's a murder," Lewis said. "There are too many unanswered questions. The cause of the fire in the vehicle is only but one piece of the broader situation."

Dallas police say they will maintain an open mind about this still-unsolved case.
 ::snipping2::
A similar statement was issued late Monday afternoon by Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman Lt. Joel Lavender: "This case will remain in an 'Under Investigation Status' until factual information is identified that better explains Ms. Lightfoot's death."

The fire department statement said that the circumstances surrounding the woman's death "are not open to discussion at this time" and added that the department will make no further statements "due to the sensitivity of this case and our ongoing investigation."

The above link will not let me see the whole article anymore but I wanted to mention a couple of things it said in it.

(paraphrasing here):
1- Elizabeth had been texting all night with boyfriend Tuan and he kept asking her when she was coming home.

2- Elizabeth excused herself from the table about 11:30 saying she was going to the restroom but she left the restaurant without saying anything to the people she was with. No goodbye, nothing.
