Penn State president explains McQueary status
November 14, 2011

(CBS News)

Penn State president Rodney Erickson says Mike McQueary, an assistant coach now on administrative leave who was a graduate assistant when he allegedly witnessed sex abuse at the school in 2002, wasn't fired last week because "legal issues" are in play.

McQueary allegedly saw retired Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky sexually assaulting a child in the shower in a school locker room.

Sandusky is accused of assaulting eight boys over 15 years, and denies the charges.
When asked why Joe Paterno, the iconic Penn State head football coach was fired and not McQueary, Erickson said McQueary's situation was "different." He said, "The board, last Wednesday night, felt that they had to take decisive action, and they did."

"Early Show" co-anchor Jeff Glor asked, "Why was it a different situation, though, if both had information that potentially could have stopped this earlier? Why was one put on administrative leave and one just removed from the position?"

"All I can say at this point is that there are legal issues that are involved," Erickson said.

Glor noted there are three investigations being conducted.Erickson said he hopes to see them completed as soon as possible, so the school can "take whatever corrective actions may be recommended as a result of those investigations."

As for the school, Erickson said "there's ... been the start of a healing process."

When asked if the focus has been too much about the football program and Paterno -- and not on the victims -- Erickson said, "I would certainly hope that the bulk of the focus is on the victims, because there's been so much sadness here at the university over the course of the last week, so much emotion that has been directed toward the victims. Our hearts go out to them."

Just after the announcement that Paterno had been fired amid the scandal, disturbances broke out in State College, Pa., where the school is located.
 ::snipping2::
He said, "The fact that our students organized a candlelight vigil to support the victims of child sexual abuse, where 10,000, mostly students, showed up, I think was an excellent example of the real character of Penn State and Penn State students.

BREAKING NEWS FOX:  THE CEO OF THE SECOND MILE CHARITY HAS RESIGNED

The Second Mile, the charity at the center of the Penn State child sex abuse scandal, confirmed it has accepted the resignation of its CEO, Jack Raykovitz, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Monday.

The non-profit organization was founded by former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky in the late 1970s to help disadvantaged children.

Sandusky, 67, has been charged with 21 felony counts for allegedly abusing eight male minors over a period of 15 years. He denies the charges.

Announcing Raykovitz's departure, The Second Mile said, "We will conduct an internal investigation to assess our internal policies, procedures and processes and make recommendations regarding the organization's future operations."

Muffy , I don't know where to put this . While checking on some laws I found this page that has state and territory law regarding child welfare in an easy to find format;
http://www.childwelfare.gov/systemwide/laws_policies/state/

This is an excellent resource alagary.  I'd like to keep the post here, but I also think there would be another place to post it so we can find it again.  I have to run out this second, but I will get back to it unless Klaas or another mod does first.  MB

Judge who freed Sandusky has volunteered for his charity

Since Sandusky was freed, an elementary school neighboring his home has taken steps to ensure student safety. Sandusky's backyard is next to the playground at Lemont Elementary School.

When he was released on bail, Sandusky, the former Nittany Lion defensive coordinator, was told not to go near children.

State College Area School District Superintendent Robert J. O'Donnell told The Patriot-News newspaper in an e-mail that police were aware of the issue and that the principal at the school "has taken additional administrative action to ensure our children are safe. These measures ... will remain in place moving forward."

I don't want to hear the BS of we will conduct our own investigation.  That means nothing will happen and they are covering themselves.

Confiscate all their records.  Shut them down.

Internal investigation!!!  I would hope that there is a Federal investigation into all aspects of the Jerry Sandusky's Second Mile foundation.

President of Charity Linked to Penn State Sex Abuse Scandal Resigns
Published November 14, 2011

The president of a charity linked to the Penn State child sex-abuse scandal said he has resigned.

The Board of Directors of The Second Mile said it accepted Dr. Jack Raykovitz's resignation Sunday.

Raykovitz's resignation comes after the charity's founder, Jerry Sandusky, was charged with sexually abusing eight boys over a 15-year period. Sandusky worked as a defensive coordinator for Penn State's football team under legendary head coach Joe Paterno, who was ousted from his position last week.

The organization said in a statement that Raykovitz had been CEO of the charity for 28 years.

The Second Mile said it will be conducting an internal investigation of its programs.

... and those who had knowledge but did nothing meaningful to stop Jerry Sandusky in his murder rampage are participants.

Big Ten takes Paterno's name off trophy
November 14, 2011

PARK RIDGE, Ill. (AP)

The Big Ten has taken Joe Paterno's name off the Big Ten's football championship trophy.
League commissioner Jim Delany said Monday that it is ''inappropriate'' to keep Paterno's name on the trophy that will be awarded Dec. 3 after the first Big Ten title game.
 ::snipping2::
The trophy had been named the Stagg-Paterno Championship Trophy. Amos Alonzo Stagg won 319 games in 57 years, most at the University of Chicago. Paterno's 409 wins are the most by a major college coach.

The trophy will now be called the Stagg Championship Trophy.

Jerry Sandusky
First Pic Since Sex Scandal Broke

CORRECTION BY TMZ:  THIS IS NOT JERRY SANDUSKY

Jerry Sandusky has gone underground since the Penn State child sex scandal broke in a very public way last week, but TMZ just got the first photo of the disgraced former assistant coach.

The photo was taken this AM at LaGuardia Airport in NYC, as Sandusky waited for his flight, and passed the time by diving into a bag of Dunkin' Donuts.

Really surprised Sandusky is alone like that. I would have thought that could be a security problem for the airport.

Centre County court to launch a website for Sandusky updates
November 14, 2011

The Centre County government website is planning to launch a page devoted to updates in the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse case.

Art Heinz, communications coordinator for the Administrative Office of the Pennsylvania Courts, says it could be up later today or tomorrow, and will include updates like scheduling for court hearings.

Heinz also said the AOPC would not be making any statement today about the firestorm surrounding District Judge Leslie Dutchcot's volunteering for The Second Mile, the charity that Sandusky founded in 1977.
 ::snipping2::
A source close has told The Patriot-News that Dutchcot volunteered during 2008 and 2009, and had no contact with Sandusky. He stopped participating in Second Mile events in 2008, when the most recent allegations were made.

BBM
Doesn't matter to me.  It's still a conflict of interest in my opinion.  The judge should have recused herself.  Weren't there others that could have handled the matter?  And this is still another reason for the feds to look into this.
